Hearing noises from an empty house.

My friend lives next door to an empty house. Her and the neighbours the other side have heard noises like banging on the wall, someone running up the stairs and plugs being pushed into the socket. She was talking to a woman who was looking at the house from the outside and told her what she'd heard and the woman said "I won't be going in there then". Is she being unreasonable?

Confused Why was the woman looking at the house ? Was she looking to buy or just standing outside gazing in….
KatherineOfGaunt · 26/08/2021 21:21

Sorry, you need more backstory. Why would the woman be going in there? Who would be unreasonable, the woman who told about the noises or the woman who was looking at the house? Why would either of them be considered unreasonable?

This OP doesn't make loads of sense to me.

WorraLiberty · 26/08/2021 21:22

Yes very unreasonable.

Can you squash her flat and slide her under the front door?

MrsSkylerWhite · 26/08/2021 21:23

Squatters or someone prepping the house for sale.

Like flat Stanley ?

  1. Are you sure nobody is on the house when these noises occur?
  2. Could they be in your house instead?
  3. Plumbing, normal house creaks etc?

Or… Google the address and find out if anything untoward has happened there Confused

Sorry, a bit more info. She's the neighbour who found my youngest brother dead in his bedroom after three days of him not answering his phone. He was an alcoholic and would often have his phone on silent. The woman was looking at the house as she was thinking of buying it to rent out.

I’m confused. Who are we judging the reasonableness of here? Your friend, her next-door-but-one neighbour or the woman looking at the house? Or all of them?

tillytoodles1 · 26/08/2021 21:32

I mean is neighbour/friend being unreasonable telling people what she's heard, or should she keep quiet and just let somebody move in .

Are you sure no one is actually in there or they might be hearing noises from next door but one? As it's empty it could just travel through.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 26/08/2021 21:36

The plugs into socket noise is probably mice in the walls (bitter experience)

flapjackfairy · 26/08/2021 21:38

So do you think it is squatters or something paranormal ?I'm confused sorry?

Evenstar · 26/08/2021 21:40

Are you saying it was your late brother’s home, and the lady who found him was thinking of renting the house until your friend mentioned the noises?

BeckyWithTheGoodHair5629456 · 26/08/2021 21:42

Huh?? I don't get it. Sorry.

BeenAsFarAsMercyAndGrand · 26/08/2021 21:42

Nobody is unreasonable for just saying what they've heard. What a ridiculous idea.

The noise could be anything. Squatters, noise carrying from the next house along, someone preparing the house for sale. Haven't you got more interesting things to think about?

She was thinking of buying it to rent it out, but she was put off by what she was told about the noises.

Why are you being nasty, I was only asking if she should stay quiet in future.

There are no sqatters. She lives next door and hears the noises quite often.

Op I think you’re struggling to articulate this, which is fine not every one is coherent but it’s causing issues for people.

So basically your brother sadly died at home, the house should be empty, a woman was looking to view but someone made out someone was actually living in the house, I assume squatters, and the woman didn’t wish to view because of it? This seems reasonable? No one wants a house with squatters.

ThreeWitches · 26/08/2021 21:47
Confused
Bluntness100 · 26/08/2021 21:48

Op why did you start off by saying your friend lives next to a supposed empty house where someone is clearly living there, but then indicate irs your late brothers house?

DroopyClematis · 26/08/2021 21:49

So are you thinking that your bother's spirit might still be there?

Blindleadingtheblind · 26/08/2021 21:49

Hang on. Let me get this straight. Your friend lives next door to your brothers now empty house and she and the neighbour at the other side of the house have both heard noises. A woman came to look at the house as a possible BTL but your friend told the woman about the noises? And now you are wondering if your friend should have said nothing at all. Is that right?

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 26/08/2021 21:49

Someone is living there or it's squatters.

It's not ghosts and I don't think anyone should even speculate that it is
