To use baked beans instead?

Quick one!

Got all the ingredients for a chilli con carne but just about to start cooking and realised I forgot kidney beans!
Cannot be arsed loading kids in the car to go to the shops for some but I do have baked beans in the cupboard - would it be abhorrent to tip a tin of those in the mix?

Help please!

I used to use baked beans when one of mine refused to eat kidney beans

Marmelace · 26/08/2021 16:54

I always used baked beans instead of kidney beans when my children were little, as they didn't like kidney beans . The sauce added to the flavour too.

PlasticOrchid · 26/08/2021 16:55

We use kidney beans AND baked beans! Definitely go for it.

nokidshere · 26/08/2021 16:55

Yep we use baked beans here.

Marmelace · 26/08/2021 16:55

I've even been known to stick a tin in a cottage pie to bulk the meat out.

Me too.

SquirryTheSquirrel · 26/08/2021 16:57

Personally I'd just do it without any beans. Put a bit more onion in, maybe.

AmazinglyGraceless · 26/08/2021 16:58

I've used baked beans in lots of chilli or casserole type meals. Just rinse them well.

KilljoysDutch · 26/08/2021 16:58

They're just cannellini beans, chuck them in and you'll end up putting them in every chilli. They're really good.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 26/08/2021 16:58

Mince, baked beans, peppers, sweetcorn and spices is our quick cheats version of chilli. Authentic? No. Quick and easy? Definitely.

NewPapaGuinea · 26/08/2021 16:58

Do it.

Classica · 26/08/2021 16:59

Won't let a bean of any shape or description near my chili con carne. Revolting things.

They are the warts that adorn the devil's testicles.

Classica · 26/08/2021 17:00

(but obv baked beans are a perfectly fine sub for kidney beans for those of a beany bent)

Toottooot · 26/08/2021 17:02

Disgusting. Baked beans are awful.

granny24 · 26/08/2021 17:02

Clássica are you from Texas? No beans in their chilli.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 26/08/2021 17:18

Yes, do it all the time.

3Br1tnee · 26/08/2021 17:27

Baked beans are delicious. Especially with some dirty white bread, butter and chips. And whatever crappy accompaniment you have. Chicken nuggets, sausages, etc etc etc
motherofcatsandbears · 26/08/2021 17:31

I use a tin of kidney beans and a can of baked beans in my chilli - it adds a tiny amount of sweetness to make a difference.

newnortherner111 · 26/08/2021 17:32

I wish I could have the option- it's the only thing missing from my supermarket delivery today!!!

Disfordarkchocolate · 26/08/2021 17:34

Beans do not belong in chilli, not even kidney beans.

Dandy0911 · 26/08/2021 17:42

Chuck it in. With the sauce n all.

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 26/08/2021 17:43

I hate kidney beans so we always add baked beans Grin

TheKeatingFive · 26/08/2021 17:44

Absolutely OP

bonbonours · 26/08/2021 17:47

I always put baked beans in chili with the sauce too. My kids prefer it that way. Not authentic but they like the touch of sweetness and don't pick them out like they do kidney beans.

bloodywhitecat · 26/08/2021 17:48

Me too, and I definitely used them in chilli in place of kidney beans when the kids were small.
