I have a rule if they don’t say please or thank you in their first post I don’t give it to them.

AIBU?

YABU

OneTC · 24/08/2021 19:03

I actually meant YANBU

JuneOsborne · 24/08/2021 19:04

Well, if I sell on FB (we actually have a great local selling group) I make sure everything is at least a quid so it gets rid off the absolute timewasters.

It's the timewasters that do my head in. Come when you agree. Simples. Otherwise, piss off.

lazyarse123 · 24/08/2021 19:05

Yanbu we have a community free fb page and the number of people who just write "interested" is staggering. Every so often the admin have to post reminders to use manners, to adults..
Just another example of how awful some people are these days.

doorornottodoor · 24/08/2021 19:06

@JuneOsborne I know, wish they could get a rating like on eBay.

It’s the “I can take this and collect tonight” that pisses me off!

'I'll have this' annoys me too.

It's up to me to decide, not you!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 24/08/2021 19:13

I agree with you. I might lower my standards if I want to get rid of it and there are no other takers, but otherwise, I offer items to the first respondent who deigns to regard me as an actual human. Doesn't have to write an essay or a sob story - just a basic greeting and please or thank you.

In fact, the rude ones tend to be the more flakier ones anyway, who just impulsively reply with "mine," "will take it" or "what's your address" instantly to everything that's offered, assuming that gives them first refusal, and only then decide if they can get money selling it want it or not - usually not.

The ones who say "Hi, is this still available, please? I'd be very interested if it is, thanks" invariably tend to be the ones who have carefully considered whether they actually want the item being offered, can use it and are in a position to collect it (at a mutually-suitable time). They're what FreeCycle is properly about, not the rude timewasters.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 24/08/2021 19:15

Beggars belief, doesn't it?!

ThreeB · 24/08/2021 19:17

YANBU. I actually had someone write "mine!" as their reply to the post. Needless to say they got ignored and blocked

JuneOsborne · 24/08/2021 19:17

I've got sympathy with the 'interested' crew. It comes up as an option. So easy to click it, post it and not realise I've seen people do it over and over gain, by mistake, on the same post.

AlfonsoTheMango · 24/08/2021 19:25

I posted an item on FreeCycle and got an email asking "still available?". That was it - no "Hello, is the item still available? Thanks!" or something like that. I ignored them.

The other item I posted was described clearly: "this is an unopened carton of [x]. The carton contains six boxes, with each box containing 12 pieces of [x]. Please note that you need to take the entire carton." Someone emailed saying they would pick up. I responded saying "Great! Just to remind you that it's a carton of [x]." The person responded saying "Can I just open the carton and take what I need?" No.

godmum56 · 24/08/2021 19:28

yanbu without a doubt

HurryUpAndWait23 · 24/08/2021 19:29

Someone posted on fb asking if anyone had any Stairgate's going cheap/free.

I replied, said I have two he can have if he would like.

He PM'd me and said

"What's your address"

Fuck that. I didn't give him my address. Rude.

megletthesecond · 24/08/2021 19:30

Yanbu.
I've had an easier time on there since I only replied to polite requests.

Nighttimenope · 24/08/2021 19:33

I mean, it’s nice to be polite and someone to be polite back, but I can’t believe the number of people on here who only give to ‘the worthy.’ Who cares!

BreakfastOfWaffles · 24/08/2021 19:37

I once had someone reply "I'll have this and you'll need to deliver it" 😂

billy1966 · 24/08/2021 19:38

YANBU

FluffyBlueJumper · 24/08/2021 19:43

I thought it was an urban legend, but when I offered a few toys on my local fb group, a woman messaged me to ask what else I could give her to make it worth for her to come.

VyrnwyGirl · 24/08/2021 19:46

@doorornottodoor YANBU. Facebook marketplace is the worst. If you offer something for free, you get 'Still available?' And 'I'll have it' and other rude shit.

TisTheSeasonToBe · 24/08/2021 19:49

@ThreeB

More fun to treat them to a lesson in manners.... Let them make several appts to collect....and then cancel!!
KirstenBlest · 24/08/2021 19:49

YANBU

However, I listed somethings recently and one of the ones who said Please, later asked if II had any more, which I thought was a bit grabby, and turned up to collect at 22.15 hrs.

The ones that just say 'Can I have it.' or 'Where do I pick it up' go to the back of the queue.

Pawsin · 24/08/2021 19:57

I was selling a piece of furniture once on FB marketplace and had been discussing it with a lady who wanted to buy. She asked if I could deliver, and I asked whereabouts she was. She named a town in Wales...I replied apologising saying she must have read my ad wrong as I'm in in the East of England. Her reply? 'Well can you deliver it to me or not?'! After saying I clearly wasn't going to drive all that way to drop off a £20 furniture piece, she replied 'well it was worth a try'. I was honestly gobsmacked 😂

AlfonsoTheMango · 24/08/2021 19:59

In my fantasy life I would make several appointments to deliver, cancel at the last moment each time and then block the person.

KirstenBlest · 24/08/2021 20:18

The ones who make a Wanted post and don't ask please are rude IMO.
