Covid Isolation Hotel Nightmare

Suppermumzy · 24/08/2021 16:18

Stuck in this London Isolation Hotel...food is terrible...if you are lucky to go out for exercise you are hurriedly sent back in as there is always a list waiting to go out and use the outdoor space which can safely have 4 people in at a time..i will add photos of food. Cost for 11 days £2285.

I asked today "Would they stop me if I wanted to leave?" Answer No..but you will be reported as an absconder and may face a £10,000 fine....Surely this is not voluntary nor is it fair...who is monitoring this system..we seam to be a forgotten minority rotting away behind fences..

I am coming back from Africa to bury my 99 year old father who died 1/08....and I couldn't have not gone...I had to see him through....Surely this is not voluntary imprisonment as without the hotel booking reference you are not allowed on your flight at the departure airport...

AIBU to feel aggrieved by the system..when i left England the hotel fee was £1750...when I went to book it had gone up £500....NHS nurse looked after British public throughout the Pandemic but I feel that I am incapacitated to look after my own..including my young kids...

@PrincessLeiaInlockdown

I’m so sorry your facing this prison experience. The food looks all indian fare. I know India was on red list and ppl were complaining about veggie food that was served seems like they are now serving indian food when India is off the red list. Unfortunately you are having to eat this. Why can’t they give option surely its a hotel even schools manage it . Whole thing is shameful
I think that’s a bit insulting to India
thelionqwueen · 25/08/2021 18:44

Yeah it looks horrible. Funny how many famous people can travel how they want..

Scottsy100 · 25/08/2021 18:46

The situation is dire and that food you’re being served for over £200 a day is shocking, but there has to be some control somewhere along the line and unfortunately you are a victim of that

Hillary17 · 25/08/2021 18:47

Sorry you’ve been through this. We had similar last year and honestly people acted as though we were scumbags for needed to fly back to our home country. We didn’t have a choice. Thankfully we flew back just before hotel quarantine and we’re able to do it at home, but the reaction from other people was what bothered me the most. I’m a British citizen… I should be allowed to come back home especially after spending hundreds on tests and being double vaccinated.

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 25/08/2021 18:50

@Minitaka

Walk out now ! It is totally unlawful to keep you here if you want to leave. They have brainwashed so many into believing that they HAVE to do this , like every thing else. I live in a small village where the old people still wear masks, as a doctor I know the harm these mask do , physically and psycologically so I tell them they are not obliged to wear them ( but they do have a choice) they all think it is the law and believe they will get arrested if they don't!! Thank you BBC for putting the fear of god into our people.
A doctor, huh? Now why do I find that incredibly hard to believe?
keeptheaspidistra · 25/08/2021 18:52

I'm sorry you're having a really rough time at the minute OP Flowers

This is disgusting, there's clearly money to be made out of this and it's so wrong

Ifrozethehoumous · 25/08/2021 18:58

It’s disgusting and just a licence for this shabby self-serving lot in government to make more money.

nannykatherine · 25/08/2021 19:04

I’m sorry the circumstances are so sad and feel thier should be special arrangements for cases like this …

nannykatherine · 25/08/2021 19:05

Yes
What type of doctor ??????

Symposium123 · 25/08/2021 19:08

It’s been very well known for a long time now that visiting a red list country requires a stay in a quarantine hotel. You could have routed via an amber or green list country and spent your 10 days there but chose not to. YABVU to complain about your choice.

BiscuitLover09876 · 25/08/2021 19:16

Wtf is breakfast? Shock

Purplecatlover · 25/08/2021 19:18

Unfortunately I think you are stuck with it. It’s ridiculous the cost they’re charging, I agree that food is not reasonable, looks like supermarket ready meals to me! However I think all you will be able to do is make sure you file complaints about the conditions everywhere you can.

It is a condition of travel to a red list country that hotel quarantine is completed on return. It is a risk that any country you travel to could move to the red list while you are away. Some with no notice (like for the people who found out when they landed that Mexico had moved to red whale they were flying there). I can’t afford to pay for compulsory hotel quarantine so I can’t leave the uk. You had a very good reason for travelling but unfortunately unless your an mp or a celeb you’re not exempt from it.

The post near the start of this thread suggesting people avoid it by having a holiday in another country on the way back shows why it is compulsory and not down to choice or trust of people to quarantine at home.

It is not exactly easy for non-British people to get visas for amber or green list countries. It isn't as simple as routing via a green country because they won't let us in. Perhaps the OP is a British citizen. I am not and won't be allowed into any of these countries without a very long visa application process. Passport privilege and all that!
Sk8ermum3000 · 25/08/2021 19:28

YABVU - what are you complaining about- the cost? The rubbish food? Or because you think it’s unfair you had to isolate after a funeral?Yes, the whole Covid fallout is totally crap for everyone including my family abroad who weren’t allowed to leave their home to travel to my fathers funeral who died of Covid, for my father who died alone as we weren’t allowed to hold his hand in care, for the people who have lost jobs, for the enormous mental health crisis that had occurred as a result of Covid, for the kids who have lost out on education, hot meals and support in schools…..the list will go if I bother. Stop moaning. You knew the deal. Suck it up. At least you attended the funeral. There are few winners in the world of Covid and it would help to look on the bright side. At least in a few days you will be home, most probably safe and carrying on with your normal life.

How?? I’m from India, I’ve had friends who had hotel isolation and they struggled massively with food situation. I can name every dish posted by OP. I would struggle if I had to eat one particular type all day, which I’m not accustomed too.

anniegun · 25/08/2021 19:32

which greedy hotel group is this - name and shame!

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 25/08/2021 19:32

@PrincessLeiaInlockdownm- because it looks like shit and Indian food isn’t shit

Carpedimum · 25/08/2021 19:39

I’m sorry for your loss @Suppermumzy - that cost is criminal - some people are profiteering from the pandemic, no doubt. I’d starve, I simply don’t eat that kind of food at all. I hope your time there goes fast.

nopuppiesallowed · 25/08/2021 19:39

This is outrageous!
Definitely tweet about this, and include the name of the hotel. And please can you give us the name of the hotel and any other details. Perhaps those on Mumsnet can write and email on your behalf. I'm not normally an agitator, but this is shocking.

Goodness… !! It looks bad bcoz how its served… like prison food. And ppl are being let out for fresh air like prison. The whole hotel isolation scheme is a shame. Pricey one. Nothing to insult any nationality.

OP, sorry for your loss. I could be very well in your place last month, had I been to see my very sick FIL. Heartbreaking situation for you. My sympathies xx

keeptheaspidistra · 25/08/2021 19:47

@Sk8ermum3000 you sound like a nice person. Because you couldn't bury your parent everyone else should be ok with having a shitty experience with saying goodbye to theirs? It always perplexes me when people who have had shitty experiences think their entitled to wish the same on others.

smallgoon · 25/08/2021 19:53

I still can't workout what that brown stuff for breakfast is...

Sk8ermum3000 · 25/08/2021 19:54

keeptheaspidistra I don’t wish the same on others. And to clarify, it wasn’t my shitty experience but my fathers.
I just think that people need to be grateful if they have a life, a future etc and accept that life isn’t perfect. Many people are suffering and there are curve balls left, right and centre in this pandemic so there shouldn’t be any surprises. The OP has light at the end of the tunnel and should work with that I think.

Suppermumzy · 25/08/2021 19:54

@Greyhare...I never found out what breakfast was..it went in the bin...

From the bottom of my heart thank you all for taking time to write..it has passed time ...well and truly🙏....I will not reply no more as this has now taken a life of its own...

I’d raise a section 75 dispute with your card provider. The price to quality of service/hotel does not add up.
