Playstation 5 woes

DS has bought himself a PS5
He has tried to transfer data (games) from ps4 to ps5
Apparently there isn't enough memory 🤔
I'm trying to help but I'm no IT expert.
Surely the memory on the 5 should be better than the 4?! If so why won't it download due to not enough memory......arrgh I just want a quiet life🤣
Any experts about?

You can extend the storage apparently. I don't have a PS5, just a 4, but I've never hit an issue with space, so it's a new one on me, sorry.

Ps5 has approx 600gb of usable storage. The ps4 may have been upgraded or is the 1tb model and therefore has more data than can be copied. Also, when ps4 games are copied across you may need to download Ps5 patches which can include higher resolution textures - again increasing the size.

Just copy across fewer games. Games are so big these days even on Ps5 you can only have 3 or so big titles installed at once. You will keep the save games if you are logged into the same PlayStation account.

Also - yes the storage is faster, but it is not larger.

I am by no means an expert but if the PS5 doesn't have enough storage for these games you can get a external hard drive for the PS4. You can play PS4 (but not PS5) games straight from the external hard drive once it's plugged in.

Does he realistically need ALL the games off his PS4 on his PS5 actively installed at once? The other option is to purchase an external storage device that is PS5 compatible.

I do think a 1TB PS4 is better.
The PS5 can suffer with controller drift too

Just buy an external harddrive. They're not mega expensive and handy to have.

He was only trying to install 1 game, call of duty I believe.
Seems mad to me (I'm old🤣) that a new game should have less storage than a new one!

No, that's a ridiculous flounce. If he must have all his PS4 games on at once, tell him to spend £40 on an external 1tb USB HDD and put them on there - they'll run better than on a PS4.

Oh, crossed post. Call of Duty fits perfectly fine on a PS5, he's doing something wrong.

Whilst COD is a huge game (there's weekly updates which add to the game size) it fits on the PS5. I would suggest user error.

My ds mentioned this to me a few days ago, he previously had X Box but moved to PS5 a few months ago.
We are looking at £50 to get hard drive extension or whatever its called.
Seems a bit of a swizz to me, all that money and you immediately have to stump up more, sure this didn't happen on the X Box Hmm

It's pretty much 250gb with the latest texture packs and is growing every week

But you are right that is still less than half the storage

He says he will think about it and may try again tomorrow.
His PS4 is 1TB and has Netflix etc on it too.
It's just so much money to spend, then have to fork out for more storage.

I have a 2TB external hard drive for my PS5. Cost about 60 quid IIRC.
