Playstation 5 woes

DS has bought himself a PS5
He has tried to transfer data (games) from ps4 to ps5
Apparently there isn't enough memory 🤔
I'm trying to help but I'm no IT expert.
Surely the memory on the 5 should be better than the 4?! If so why won't it download due to not enough memory......arrgh I just want a quiet life🤣
Any experts about?

DS has decided to buy an external hard drive, he's looking at 1 or 2 TB
Are there any recommendations as to which make?

As far as I can understand, all the PS4 games can be stored on it and played on the PS5, but new PS5 games can't be stored on the external drive?

And what's best?
SSD or HDD?

The link someone posted previously has thw lle answers to this. You can store both ps4 and Ps5 games on the external. However you can only play Ps5 games once they are copied back to the Ps5 drive, eg you can archive them off to the external disc but they are not playable until copied back. You can play ps4 directly off the external storage.

An ssd is higher performance, but in this instance wouldn't be worth the cost for the additional storage as the speed will be OK for the ps4 games. I'd just get a standard non-ssd for this purpose - it will be a quarter of the price. Any reputable brand will be fine, seagate, WD (Western digital), Samsung - just make sure it is USB 3.0

I just got the bairn an HDD.

We haven't upgraded consoles yet so don't know much about the he pS5 and storage for ps5 games. You're better off asking the experts. Playstation have a Facebook page that should be handy for any questions.

Yep, that's exactly correct.

When I went from PS4 to PS5 I just told the PS4 to copy all its installed games onto a 1TB external HDD and then plugged that into the PS5. Immediately available, much quicker than downloading them all again.

PS5-only games will need to be downloaded though.

Me again! Hard drive is ordered, while we await delivery I am pondering...

Am I right in thinking, you plug the external drive into the PS4 and Copy the games onto the drive, then plug the hard drive into the PS5 and tada! You can play PS4 games on PS5?

Iirc and assuming it's like the PS4, plug in the HD, in settings (?) there's a choice to format the HD so it's PS compatible. Then it's ready

Do you really need to copy games across? I just re-download them straight on the PS5 (or install from disc again).

@bungaloid the PS5 hasn't got enough memory to hold all the games. It will store 2, or 3 at the most.
So we are having to buy an external drive to download all the games from PS4 so they can be played on PS5 via the hard drive

Oh OK I misunderstood, thought you just wanted to move a couple across. I had a 2TB PS4 drive but decided to streamline my life on PS5. I had millions of games installed but never played them, so I've ditched my previous life. But then I just put the PS4 in a spare room in case I got the urge!

@bungaloid 🤣 I think DS will keep the PS4 too. There's only 2 or 3 games he plays really.

Can't do anything at the mo as the PS5 isn't turning on properly

We were lucky enough to get him one for Christmas last year and he's never had any problems with it.

He said it is okay size wise with those games on, if he wants another game he would need to remove one, but he is ok with that as they tend to play the same small number of games for a while rather than jump between then. Nowadays he is mostly on the PS5 just to chat to friends while playing Football manager on his laptop 🤦‍♀️

A big bonus is, unlike the PS4, it doesn't sound like a jet plane taking off when playing CoD.

Still having issues
DS has been away so not been able to sort it.
So we get to the black screen and that's it, when reading about it it says change the resolution etc but how can you if the screen is black?! Or does it mean charge the resolution etc on the TV settings??

So I've answered my own question and gone to safe mode on the ps5 but still nothing happens. Think.we will have to take it back and let the guys in the shop have a look
