Some of DCs white clothes have got stains on that I cannot get out - all the white ones. Weird,’orange stains that I genuinely have no idea where they’ve come from?! I’m really fussy about washing and it’s driving me bananas. Could it be my machine? I’ve bought some stuff to clean it.

I’ve tried spray, stuff you soak it in, white bio powder, I’ve tried lemon juice and leaving it on the sun - they’re still bloody there! Faded, but obvious. Don’t want to have to throw the bits out, anyone got any magical secrets?!?

Bleach wash?

WisestIsShe · 22/08/2021 13:41

Whites only, 40°no higher if synthetic, napisan in the pre wash, good long wash eg mixed fabrics no quick wash.

@OatyBarKid

Bleach wash?
Is this where you add bleach to the drawer? I’m scared of this!

White vinegar

6fingerkitkat · 22/08/2021 13:43

Elbow grass bar. Per instructions. Seems to work well

OatyBarKid · 22/08/2021 13:47

Or if you try everything and they still won't come out, dye them a different colour? When DC's clothes get faded I usually do a washing machine dye and spruce them up again.

Sunlight! Honestly, I never believed it before having a child but it really works.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 22/08/2021 13:51

Oh you said sunlight.....

Tbh if that doesnt work I give up!

FayKnights · 22/08/2021 13:52

Pink stuff do whitening powder similar to vanish, i used it on a massive red wine stain on a white t-shirt and it worked a treat. You can put it in the machine too.

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 22/08/2021 13:52

The only stains that sunlight hasn't managed to bleach for us, were caused by sun-protection cream.

BritishSummertime · 22/08/2021 13:54

I wet the stain & scrub with vanish soap or spray some anti mould bleach cleaning spray on it & wash straightaway.

JuneOsborne · 22/08/2021 13:55

I'd put them in a bowl of bleach solution. Buy thin bleach, not thick bleach. When the stain appears shifted, wash as normal with an extra rinse cycle.

nanbread · 22/08/2021 13:57

Yep it's suncream. Have tried everything and nothing gets it out!

blueberrywaffle · 22/08/2021 13:57

For actual stains use green fairy and soak them over night then wash, it's amazing. For whites that have just lost their sparkle fill an old pan or something deep (even your sink if it's metal, don't do this if your sink isn't metal as it will ruin it- learnt this the hard way!!) get some of the vanish whitening powder. About £4 in most shops. Put a few spoons into the pan and some boiling water then soak for 24 hours !! Works wonders as I don't like using bleech!!
Oh ruined some shorts in chlorine so they went a yellow colour. Soaked them in vanish and their sparkling again!
Works great for them white socks to!!!

Chicchicchicchiclana · 22/08/2021 13:58

It's probably rust stains from the drum of your machine.

MrsMoastyToasty · 22/08/2021 13:58

Fairy liquid. Most stains are grease based and as Fairy liquid does a brilliant job with greasy crockery I've started using it on stained clothing.

Ah, this may be the culprit! They tend to be around where it has touched his skin so this makes sense…

Okay, definitely going to try some of these suggestions and then if nothing works, definitely dying them, love that idea!

Chemical sunscreen stains are impossible to get out. Mineral based sunscreens are the way forward.

Belledan1 · 22/08/2021 14:09

If it has no logos on it soak in bleach and hot water with fairy liquid or if a logo just rub bleach in to the stain with hot water and fairy liquid

dottydodah · 22/08/2021 14:10

If they are whites .I normally put them in the sink with small amount of bleach .Soak about an hour .Wring and then put in normal wash .Usually does the trick!

phishy · 22/08/2021 14:10

I think the trick with a bleach wash is to do it on the hottest temperature possible, and only add the bleach once water is in the drum.

This did the trick with my white t-shirts.

dottydodah · 22/08/2021 14:10

With cold water I mean!

Duploisthebest · 22/08/2021 14:11

I'd just spray kitchen cleaner which has bleach in it on the stains, quick rinse under the tap and into the washing machine

OnlyToWin · 22/08/2021 14:14

Do you have Lillies in your house?
The pollen from them has caused some mysterious orange stains on our clothes, which I haven’t managed to remove, so any other tips would be welcome!!
