Some of DCs white clothes have got stains on that I cannot get out - all the white ones. Weird,’orange stains that I genuinely have no idea where they’ve come from?! I’m really fussy about washing and it’s driving me bananas. Could it be my machine? I’ve bought some stuff to clean it.

I’ve tried spray, stuff you soak it in, white bio powder, I’ve tried lemon juice and leaving it on the sun - they’re still bloody there! Faded, but obvious. Don’t want to have to throw the bits out, anyone got any magical secrets?!?

I posted the same but knew it was sun protection cream. I've managed to get everything white again with Shout spray. Leave to work an hour and plenty of it soaking into the fabric. A quick rub then into wash with only white items

Never put near bleach onto white fabric it makes for yellow brown stains

Ok/ if it is sun cream stains do not add bleach, this will turn them pink.
Spray with viakal, then wash as normal with 1 or 2 3 in 1dishwasher tablets in the drum.

The trick is to treat before washing, if you wash first, then you can "set" the stain which is then almost impossible to remove.

How do I know? We run a gîte and regularly have to treat stained bedding and towels.

Ariel washing powder is really good for stain removal. Oil got onto DH shorts and came out with a normal 40 degree wash. I use to use bio pods but have gone back to powder which I wished I’d done sooner.

The machine can stain your clothes if there is a build up of grease. I did a hot wash then a bleach wash and tested it in some old t shirts and they were fine after the bleach cycle.

purplesequins · 22/08/2021 19:44

bio powder on a long cotton cycle gets most stains out.
hanging out to dry also helps.

but tbh, children get dirty, it's their job.
apart from very special occassions they should not wear white imo
(and whoever stipulates white shirts with school uniforms deserves )

BarbaraofSeville · 22/08/2021 19:46

I agree, don't wear white clothes if you can help it. Far too much hard work.

Washing clothes with Head & Shoulders before washing normally will get suncream out, there's some active ingredient in the shampoo which gets it out bit you have to do it before you wash normally
