To love thunderstorms

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 21/08/2021 23:39

Aside from that they can be dangerous I love thunderstorms. One is starting now and I'm very excited Grin
Obviously I do get they are not nice to be out in and people have been struck by lightening and died so I don't want to be insensitive at all but I think they're awesome events of nature.
My cat isn't a fan though.

Yes, I've been known to get out of bed in the middle of the night to watch one Grin

Cupcakey · 21/08/2021 23:42

I love watching them, we are quite high up so can see it flash over the valley.
No signs where I am of one at the moment.

TiredyMcTired · 21/08/2021 23:43

As o

Theunamedcat · 21/08/2021 23:44

My cats love them not so much the rain

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 21/08/2021 23:44

Glad it's not just me. I'm in Solihull and there was a huge rumble of thunder just now. DO is driving home from a gig so I hope he's ok. Sometimes the lightening looks amazing over the sky.

That's interesting. Mine gets scared and I'm wondering if she senses it as been running about like a nutcase all evening

Oops, fat fingers pressed post too soon! As long as I am somewhere safe I love watching thunderstorms and electrical storms. We've been on holiday to Florida a few times and the storms there are epic, totally full on. I live in SW England and there was one storm about 2 years we watched for at least a couple of hours, hardly any thunder but so much lightning it looked like something computer generated for a movie!

Theunamedcat · 21/08/2021 23:52

One of them has been wildly excited all evening he has been running around with a very jiggling tail chasing his brothers hanging out the window happy as Larry

scarpa · 21/08/2021 23:53

I love them. I will drag blankets to the big window in our spare room and sit and watch them for ages. I grew up on the coast and seeing them across the bay was one of my favourite things.

Ooh yes - storms abroad are something else! I was in a pool in Thailand on the roof of a quite tall hotel when a storm started happening worryingly close... never got out of water and inside so quickly haha, but it was amazing to watch the huge purple bolts of lightning.
Mojitofairy · 21/08/2021 23:59

I love them too! On holiday in Canada a few years ago we had an epic storm, it was the first night and i was awake anyway but I sat on the balcony and enjoyed every moment. We don’t get storms anywhere like it at home. I always watch films with storms at pivotal moments and think nope, not here love. A good storm makes my day!

I love them. So much so that I have an Alexa in my bedroom and ask it to play thunder storm sounds sometimes to help me sleep...

homeappliances · 22/08/2021 00:11

Only upside of climate change is that we might see more epic thunderstorms in the UK!

Doingtheboxerbeat · 22/08/2021 00:13

I'm near you OP and I'm waiting for it to happen. As long as it doesn't eff up my Sky signal, it's all good.

DeathWinsAGolfish · 22/08/2021 00:14

@TiredyMcTired I remember that storm too!

Ihavehadenoughalready · 22/08/2021 00:17

Love them too ⛈

Ringshanks · 22/08/2021 00:24

Oo I’m in Shirley and excited by the prospect of more lightening .Has anyone travelled specifically to see storms? I’d love to but wouldn’t know where/when to go .

NiceGerbil · 22/08/2021 00:26

YANBU

I love them always have. Exciting. A lot of big/ potentially dangerous things are kind of fascinating to watch. That total power of nature that we cannot control.

I think it helps that where I live there's little risk of flooding etc. I imagine it would be less fun in a different area or country.

But even so. My gran lived in a place where the sea sometimes came over. And when the waves were big people would watch.

These things are awe inspiring and dangerous I suppose. Like the way humans are way more interested in large predators / animals that can kill us pretty easily than other ones.

Adrenaline?

DoylyCarte · 22/08/2021 00:26

Yanbu I love a good thunderstorm as well 😍

The website below is amazing for tracking an incoming thunder/lightning storm

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 22/08/2021 00:28

I love thunderstorms unless I'm in a tent.
When I was a kid, the family went on holidays to France, we always camped. One year we stayed somewhere in the central massif, cue epic thunderstorms, where tents died and roads became rivers. Any thunderstorm after that was spent in my parents tent.
As I got older I recognised the signs. High winds and headaches.
Nowadays, my cat and I watch and listen together, in our nice, safe brick building, which is directly across from a church and various trees that are higher.

wigglerose · 22/08/2021 00:46

Love them too. I was genuinely disappointed when they are forecast and they don't happen. We never seem to get lightning storms here :(((

I have to enjoy storms vicariously through lightningmaps.org

Haggisfish3 · 22/08/2021 00:51

@Myusernameisnotmyusernameno I just drove home from a gig in Birmingham! Was a cool lightning and full moon show. Hope so made it home ok.

Tangledtresses · 22/08/2021 00:52

Love a good storm! Best one was in Greece and lightning struck the pavement by the pool... and the wind pushed all the patio furniture into it

We had huge sliding doors and watched from bed
