Today I waited all day for my gas service. I called to ask why they didn't turn up. "Your street has restrictions and you didn't tell us".

I live on a SCHOOL STREET!! The restrictions are for SCHOOL HOURS!!!

Fuck sake. Rebooked for next week with a note on my account Hmm

I wouldn't go that far. Most of them actually seem ok and I get things done when needed. BUT they also had my phone number! I've never had an issue before. I'm just confused at how dumb they must have been today

I’ve never even heard of a school street so why would you expect the gas company to know about this?

And if it means your street has some kind of restrictions, why did you book a service at this time?

Nobloat21 · 18/08/2021 05:47

BECAUSE THERE IS NO SCHOOL

Are you suggesting people paving on these streets should have anything done in their property during the school holidays?

When would be the better time? Term time?

Op I used to work for BG service and repair. The engineers would know this sort of stuff and should have called you. Its shit on their part. This isn't a rare situation.

Yanbu.

ActivelyAnxious · 18/08/2021 05:48

@NewIdeasToday what the OP is saying is that the restrictions are (I assume) signposted as being during school hours only, which currently doesn't apply as it is the school holidays.

newnortherner111 · 18/08/2021 07:07

You should have gone elsewhere for your gas service. If you are renting tell your landlord about this.

Blessex · 18/08/2021 07:10

It’s just laziness. Any old excuse. Would drive me mad too OP.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 18/08/2021 07:15

Now the COVID excuse of not turning up is wearing thin they need new ones.

YABU OP, for not appreciating their creativity.

SimonJT · 18/08/2021 07:17

My sons school is a school street, the restrictions are active year round, not just during term time.

They aren't enforced during holiday time here and they only apply during school run times.

So it's really no excuse.

I live in London, they are literally everywhere

Amazing creatively, if it was a delivery company they would get slated whatever Wink

Certainly not the case here! And I'd be on to the council about that!

BECAUSE THERE IS NO SCHOOL
Which plenty of people probably don't know. I certainly don't know off the top of my head when the English school times are.
TheWristBoundLatexBitch · 19/08/2021 01:07

@Ancientcistern but if you live in England surely you know! As far as I know summer holidays in England have been the same for at least 30 years

alexdgr8 · 19/08/2021 01:23

well i think the signs should specify the dates/times that the restrictions apply.
the driver/fitter may not have children, be from overseas.
it could be clearer.
i'm in london and i don't know what a school street is; there used to be play streets that were restricted from vehicles at certain times so children could play, but i haven't seen them for a long time.

DelphiniumBlue · 19/08/2021 01:33

I dunno, if you can't park right outside, you can probably park in the next street and walk round?
Unless they needed to hook the gas up to their vehicle to carry out the repair...not!

DelphiniumBlue · 19/08/2021 01:37

Posted too soon...
That was a terrible excuse on their part.
And for all those who don't know what a school street is, there are signs on the road explaining that you can't park there or drive through it at certain times, there's no special magic to it. Not knowing it's a school street might be an excuse for turning up 10 minutes late, but not for failing to turn up at all.

Furries · 19/08/2021 01:51

Flipping Nora. I don’t have kids, but I’ve got to my grand old age and haven an understanding that, in England, schools aren’t in session right now.

Given a couple of replies on here, I can see this going the way of NASPALT - not all service providers are like this.

Actually, loads of them are - and it’s bloody frustrat8bg. Happy enough to take are money each month. And happy enough to dick us around with daf5 excuses.

OP - hope you get it sorted soon.

Furries · 19/08/2021 01:52

Oh what I’d give for an edit function, my stupid iPad inserts words/spellings that infuriate me.

UndertheCedartree · 19/08/2021 02:09

Don't know how anyone doesn't know it is school holidays - there are kids everywhere! Grin

On my DD's school's road - it specifies it is a School Street and the restrictions - if someone was unsure of what that meant they could just do a Google search for what that means. It is pretty obvious when it is in force as there is a barrier!

CabbagesGreen · 19/08/2021 04:45

Maybe the sign wasn't that clear and they don't have time to check everyone's signs so rely on customer to tell them.

Jux · 19/08/2021 16:46
