Is she for real? Surely no one can be that much of an idiot? Do celebrities behave like this deliberately in order to generate publicity for themselves?
@Kithic bloody hell I am cringing for her. That’s the kind of crap I spouted when I was 13 and thought I was all deep and clever. I am thankful everyday that the internet didn’t exist back then or I would have to change my name!
I know, what a load of old shite - as someone said on the twitter feed, she almost makes Paltrow look intelligent

Flowers500 · 18/08/2021 15:08

If I wrote what i actually thought about her I’d be banned on here.

MayContainNits · 18/08/2021 15:26

For a proportion of its users, 'queer' just means, 'I'm TOTALLY DIFFERENT FROM YOU, MUM, OK, NGH.'

LoislovesStewie · 18/08/2021 15:33

@countrytown

The lack of awareness in posting the photo is amplified by her saying she was not aware of the news at the time! How is that possible? I'm sure she is a guest & hosts many dinner parties with similar minded & highly educated people where they pontificate re the worlds problems. Not that I'm stereotyping a certain type of North Londoner 😆
She is much too important to watch the news!
trancepants · 18/08/2021 16:39

@OhWhyNot

I think it means at times you have been sexually attracted to your own sex

Something many people feel but have no need to inform others on sm as are self aware enough to know that it’s not that interesting

I could understand if her sexuality was a talking point but it’s not well not until this incredible act of bravery and honesty Hmm

Yeah. I'm sexually attracted to women, fantasise about being with a woman and as I'm now single pretty interested in having a relationship with a woman. In fact I'm much more interested in women than men at this particular point in my life.

But to society I'm a bog standard divorced straight mother. I don't suffer judgement or discrimination due to my sexuality (though maybe I should be if ever there was a case of "what were you thinking!" my ex is a prime example!) So I'm not going to publicly go around stating I'm queer! Not because I'm ashamed or want to hide but while I may not be strictly straight, I don't have any real "queer" experience to pontificate about. It's not a secret, I've talked about it with friends if we're talking about dating or attraction but I have nothing special to say that would be interesting outside chats with friends. If I ever have a relationship with a woman that might be different but I don't think my voice is needed in the discussion about non-straight experiences. Bisexual people shouldn't have to hide who they/we? are. But if our lives are straight presenting, we shouldn't center ourselves in discussions around homosexuality.

mustlovegin · 18/08/2021 16:52

Apparently she is an activist

She's unreasonable for doing this, for starters

entropynow · 18/08/2021 16:54

@DismantledKing

She’s as thick as mince.
Double First at Cambridge, so no. Foolish, perhaps.
KittenKong · 18/08/2021 16:56

She is 33?? My goodness - I’d’ve guessed 13 by her antics. I imagine she was just thinking ‘ooooh, pretty, blue like my eyes! I look great....’ and not much beyond that.

Well. Degree from Oxford wasn’t it? Reminds me of a friend of my sisters who was a nuclear physicist - she couldn’t boil an egg... you can’t be book smart and not very smart smart!

AuntMasha · 18/08/2021 16:59

Having been surrounded by academics for most of my life, I can safely say that some of them are utterly clueless when it comes to basic common sense.

leonpride · 18/08/2021 17:10

What an idiot. She can't even keep wearing her own burqa for the duration of time it takes to photograph herself for Instagram.

Dontwatchfootball · 18/08/2021 17:13

Living proof that education does not equal intelligence. Think Cambridge have form for letting in celebrities/royals who are a bit thick, god knows why, you would not think they needed the publicity.

HopeClearwater · 18/08/2021 21:23

which she channeled with the help of shamanic plant medicine into a book

Double first (which only means a first in your first year exams and a first in your finals) wasn’t in science then ...

HopeClearwater · 18/08/2021 21:28

It was History of Art. The Kate Middleton degree.

LizzieSiddal · 18/08/2021 21:32

Privileged, middle class white person who thinks their life experiences are relatable to everyone.

I’m sick of people like her.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 18/08/2021 21:35

She is so desperate, and I am embarrassed on her behalf.

Theythinkitsalloveritisnow · 18/08/2021 21:39

Amazing coincidence to put a photo of her wearing a burka on the same day as the Taliban taking over Kabul- despite her not following the news! Grin

Theythinkitsalloveritisnow · 18/08/2021 21:41

Wasn't it Cambridge that let Prince Charles in? Accompanied by a body guard who ended up getting a better degree Grin
FrippEnos · 18/08/2021 21:41

OhWhyNot
Apparently she is an activist

From what she has said she is a gender activist because she doesn't like the stereotypes.

So she has aligned herself with those that label and stereotype.

You couldn't make this shit up.

DdraigGoch · 18/08/2021 22:46

No, but I believe she has a double first from Cambridge.
I suppose that this is a clear example of the difference between knowledge and wisdom.

babybelling · 19/08/2021 18:17

Thing is, I'm bisexual, and agree with everyone else here that just because you are with a man, in an opposite sex relationship, doesn't mean you aren't bisexual.

But Lily Cole didn't say "my bisexuality would be a crime" she specifically said "queer". And - like it or not - being "queer" nowadays does usually mean "I'm too interesting to call myself straight, despite being in an opposite-sex relationship, only ever having had opposite-sex relationships in the past, and having no plans to experience an opposite-sex relationship in the future".

And, frankly, even if Cole had used the word "bisexual" and not "queer", her bisexuality is irrelevant. She's in a heterosexual relationship, which isn't a crime anywhere in the world. She has given no indication that she experiences same-sex attraction, nor has she said (afaik) that she's had same-sex relationships, so she will not have experienced homophobia for them.

HumdrumGuga · 19/08/2021 19:46

Exactly!!

MrsKeats · 20/08/2021 07:57

All this may be true babybelling but I still couldn't care less. What is the point of telling people? I don't feel the need to be announcing
I'm straight to people.
It's all about 'look at me, I'm so special' these days-no you're really not.
Nauseating.

Pedalpushers · 20/08/2021 08:30

Queer is an umbrella term for sexualities and identities not completely covered by LGBT. It's obviously controversial in the gay community because of its history as a slur and because well, LGBT people are not a homogenous blob of opinions.

KittenKong · 20/08/2021 08:34

It’s an awful word. And it’s all over the place too.

babybelling · 20/08/2021 12:14

Exactly, MrsKeats - I agree with you!
