Do you have ugly days?

SarahUK128 · 15/08/2021 17:50

I'm 25 and I usually feel pretty okay about my looks - I think I'm reasonably attractive. Not model like - but okay.

The past few days I've felt so ugly though.
My hair feels dry, my skin is spotty, I have constant dark under eye circles.

I've also noticed I feel ugly around my period as it's due next week. I feel my face just loses its brightness if that makes sense? And I just look dull and feel tired.

Is this normal?

Yes. I’m quite a lot older than you but I sometimes look in the mirror and and happy with what I see.
Other days I look at my self and think, God you look old/rubbish.
I have flares of rosacea and some days just look jowly and old.
I do think some of its hormonal.

Concerned67 · 15/08/2021 17:55

Yes but oddly less so as I’ve got older I’m in my late 40’s but when I was your age it was all the time.

Maddiemademe · 15/08/2021 17:58

Oh god yes I feel your pain. The other really weird feeling I get near my period is that I want to cover my body up as much as possible. I am really aware of my boobs (and they are bloody massive as enhanced). I just don’t want to be touched or looked at. As an ex porn actress I have always been comfortable with my looks/body but my god I want to cry if someone looks at me (even DP).
Periods suck Angry

YouJustDoYou · 15/08/2021 18:02

Well I AM ugly so every day is an ugly day ,lol.

RootinandTootin · 15/08/2021 18:04

100% yes. One day I can feel really good about myself and the next I feel like a monster! I think it’s definitely hormone related

Sparklesocks · 15/08/2021 18:12

Yes. I definitely have days where my skin looks drier/duller, my hair feels/looks a bit greasy or limp and I’m bloated etc. Feel a bit ming all round. Definitely related to my hormones/cycle.

therearenogoodusernamesleft · 15/08/2021 18:14

Just before my period, I think I am the most hideous person who has ever crossed the earth Grin

RavenclawsRoar · 15/08/2021 18:19

Yes, every single day. Currently pregnant and look like an enormous, bloated swamp monster.

BrownEyedSquirrel · 15/08/2021 18:23

I always feel better about how I look around ovulation time; gotta be some sort of evolutionary thing. Feel sexy, have sex, reproduce!

Men have gone out of their way to laugh at me in the street over the years and call me ugly/dog/woofer, so yes, everyday is an ugly day for me.

Poptart4 · 16/08/2021 21:13

Definitely. Some days I feel pretty, beautiful even.

Then there's days I hate everything about myself.

I wonder if men ever feel like this or if its a female thing?

ChocAuVin · 16/08/2021 21:16

Yup. Like PPs, also find it’s strongly correlated with my monthly cycle — would love to know if it’s just hormone-addled skewed perception or if there are just certain times of the month I look a bit rough Grin

rainbowfairydust · 16/08/2021 21:23

It's a hormone thing, the first half of the cycle we produce hormones to make us appear more attractive to lure in the men to reproduce!!! Then once ovulation happens, the hormones change again which in turn make us feel and look less attractive to men as we don't need to try to lure them in... I can always pinpoint when ovulation has gone as I definitely notice I feel more negative and snappy and my skin breaks out/odour change! Would love to live in the first half of the cycle stage, forever!!

Hassled · 16/08/2021 21:23

Oh definitely- all my life, and I'm old. Some days I look passable, others rough as a dog. It's weird. Doesn't seem to be related to amount of sleep/alcohol consumption/anything.

minipie · 16/08/2021 21:26

God yes and definitely just before my period.

On the plus side it means after my period I’m amazed how good I look Grin (comparatively!)

Soz to break it to you, but it’s normal…

I look like shit the week before period.

Can you slap on more makeup or hide from the world?

Patty101 · 16/08/2021 21:32

@YouJustDoYou Oh my god, what horrible experiences you've had, I'm so sorry this has happened to you. I cannot stand vile bullies that are cruel to others just to make themselves feel better.
I bet you are actually a beautiful person.

Lovelybottom · 16/08/2021 21:33

Yes, totally normal to feel differently at various stages of your cycle. I'm in early menopause but used to feel enormously fat the day before my period.

As am aside, the posts from people staying categorically that they are ugly made me want to cry. No you are not! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and to anyone who loves you, you are stunning beautiful.

GalaxyGirl24 · 16/08/2021 22:31

Yes. Strangely I tend to look ok during the week, skin is bright and clear but then weekend comes and I somehow look dull and tired, and lose the motivation to try look nice!

whatisthisinhere · 16/08/2021 22:39

I used to feel this way, but now, it so much. I think it's age, and realising it's not important in the bigger scheme of,things, plus if I want to just be without making an effort then that is fine

SylviasMotherSaid · 16/08/2021 23:23

I can always tell from old photographs when I was on my period my face always seems to go very puffy and my eyes look smaller it’s usually my luck that it’s when I’m on holiday this happens

Holothane · 16/08/2021 23:30

Yes I avoid mirrors.

Cactusmum · 17/08/2021 03:02

yes everyday lol. Im 44..and Ive given up. But weirdly Im more comfortable with myself now than when I was younger and may have been more attractive lol. Its all about the inner self esteem.. cliche but its true.
