Hairwashing

Just seeking confirmation that I'm not weird...

I have long hair which I wash upside down by bending over the bath and using the showerhead. Seems practical to me, for combing the conditioner through etc.

My mother (who has short hair) reckons I am extremely eccentric to do it this way, and wonders why I can't wash it standing up in the shower 'like everyone else does'

(my mother is fond of pointing out ways in which I am 'not like all the normal people')

I generally wear my eccentricity with pride, but just out of interest, and for a little validation, how weird am I for washing my hair like this?

Totally normal, though personally I find my hair gets more tangled doing it like that (and it hurts my neck/ back).

PlanDeRaccordement · 12/08/2021 15:01

I voted YANBU because its not eccentric

But it is wasteful of water to do it that way. And we all need to be environmentally conscious and take steps to not use more natural resources than we need. So I would encourage you to start washing it when you are washing the rest of you in the shower.

It's not weird at all in my book, but I have only ever washed my hair like this when I have wanted to wash my hair, but not my body. And it's not a comfortable position for me, I much prefer to stand up straight.
GeorgeMichaelBluth · 12/08/2021 15:03

I do it 50/50 like this. Not abnormal at all.

zukiecat · 12/08/2021 15:05

I usually wash my hair like this, I never have showers because I hate them.

When I'm in the bath, I wash it this way too, still upside down, because I kneel down and use the shower head.

You're not weird OP

Crabface · 12/08/2021 15:06

@PlandeRaccordement I applaud your environmental credentials but we don't actually have a shower, just a bath, so I don't wash my hair at the same time.

OP posts:
GnomeOrMistAndIceGuy · 12/08/2021 15:09

I do it like that too, OP. I have the curly hair of nightmares and have to wash it every morning for it to look presentable. Sometimes I don't want to shower so just do hair like this instead.

Anordinarymum · 12/08/2021 15:10

That's not what you said OP. And what has ethnicity got to do with any of this

PlanDeRaccordement · 12/08/2021 15:17

Why didn’t you say so? Your original post leads a reader to believe you have a shower. You said

I have long hair which I wash upside down by bending over the bath and using the showerhead

And

My mother (who has short hair) reckons I am extremely eccentric to do it this way, and wonders why I can't wash it standing up in the shower 'like everyone else does'

But ok, I guess you should tell your mum you don’t have a shower? But then that begs the question why does she think you should wash it standing in the shower, when she would know you don’t have one?

This thread is getting weird.

dementedpixie · 12/08/2021 15:20

How confusing. Your mum thinks you have a shower and you have a shower head but actually no shower at all.
I wash mine standing up in the shower as its easier that way. I can comb conditioner through it too

Crabface · 12/08/2021 15:21

Okay some of you are very strange with the detective stuff.

For clarity, I only have a bath. I am at my mums (for a few days to visit) and she only has a shower.

Someone made a remark about ethnicity which I'm wholly perplexed by, at no point have I mentioned anyone's ethnicity?

OP posts:
gogohm · 12/08/2021 15:22

Weird, I wash in the shower each morning, so much easier

Crabface · 12/08/2021 15:24

When I wrote the post I didn't fully anticipate how much backing detail I would need to include in order not to confuse people.

I'm going to stop reading this now as I'm getting a slightly combative vibe from some people, which isn't what I'm here for.

Cheerio!

PlanDeRaccordement · 12/08/2021 15:24

Ok, so my original comment stands, while you are at your mums (able to use a shower) you should use the shower to wash your hair with rest if you if you care at all about conserving water and the environment.

Obviously, if when you have no access to a shower, then you can’t.

TheKeatingFive · 12/08/2021 15:26

This thread is bizarre.

Using the shower head doesn’t indicate having a shower. Wtf has ethnicity to do with anything?

OP, nothing wrong with how you wash your hair, crack on and ignore the batshit.

Everything upside down, I have curly hair so it's the best way to style

CoalCraft · 12/08/2021 15:29

I don't do it that way despite long hair, but I don't think it's weird.

Apparently I am very strange for sitting on the floor of the shower to shave my legs 🤷

CiaoForNiao · 12/08/2021 15:29

The more I read this thread to try and make sense of it the less sense it makes Grin

CharlotteRose90 · 12/08/2021 15:30

Nope not a chance. My hair would be knotty as anything if I did it that way. In the shower like normal is best for me

KeepScrapingBy · 12/08/2021 15:34

Not weird at all. I wash mine in the sink because it has a mixer tap.

NotMyCat · 12/08/2021 15:34

It doesn't matter whether you wash it in the shower or not surely. If I take 5 mins in the shower + 10 mins to wash hair separately, it would still be the same time whether I'm in or out the shower!

thenightsky · 12/08/2021 15:46

When I had long hair I always washed it upside down over the side of the bath. Then when I cut it short, I found it easier in the shower. Now its long again, I've gone back to upside down over the bath.

Washing very long hair is difficult in the shower as it covers your entire upper body, clings to armpits and boobs etc, meaning you can't soap up properly without it catching in your fingers and tugging.

dottydodah · 12/08/2021 15:53

I wash my hair in the bath every time .Use a plastic jug and rinse with clean water . Surely there is no "right" way to do your hair?!

MedusasBadHairDay · 12/08/2021 15:54

Oh in that case OP I'd say that your mum is the odd one for thinking you can wash your hair stood up in a shower when you don't actually have a shower.

The only way I'd say you are unusual is if you are still washing your hair whilst kneeling in the shower at your mother's house.
