To hate this phrase a manager at work is using

Cross pollination.

He's started saying it and writing it all the time. For example, 'it is important team A and team B are coming together at this stage to cross fertilise/pollinate knowledge and learning'.

It feels like manager buzz word jargon having gone wrong. I hate it. Feels inappropriate in a work context.

Cross fertilise Grin

Omg he sounds such a dick

AppleKatie · 11/08/2021 16:04

Yanbu 🤢

Zealois · 11/08/2021 16:05

Ha! YANBU. Someone senior used this ("remember to cross-pollinate with all the teams") at work recently too and I was so glad I was on mute because I couldn't help but laugh. I'd never heard anyone else use it before. Wonder where this particular one started.

Blossomtoes · 11/08/2021 16:05

Yes, you are being a bit unreasonable. All management speak is ridiculous, this is no different.

x2boys · 11/08/2021 16:08

Has he been on a management course recently?
When i worked in the NHS, these annoying management phrases were used frequently and before you knew we were all, drawing a line in sand, bue sky thinking, thinking outside of the box, cascading information etc, etc

UnsuitableHat · 11/08/2021 16:09

Awful. 😂

MakkaPakkas · 11/08/2021 16:10

Ask him if you can run an idea up the flag pole and see who salutes it to change the language to ideas orgy. Perhaps the ideas orgy will get the spunk from team one into team 2 and produce a beautiful pregnancy

LakieLady · 11/08/2021 16:11

Ghastly, but so is most management-speak.

Or bollocks, as I prefer to think of it.

idontlikealdi · 11/08/2021 16:11

We're still breaking down silos to allow for cross-pollination 🤮

MakkaPakkas · 11/08/2021 16:12

Perhaps even a three parent idea baby, but that would be from an ideas fertility lab of course.

hellobigknickers · 11/08/2021 16:12

Ewwwwwwwww

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 11/08/2021 16:13

Vile. Especially when you think pollination occurs by sticking a something into something else.....

Mollymalone123 · 11/08/2021 16:14

For God’s sake-that term should only be used when referring to apple/pear trees and plants. Why oh why cant people just talk normally-along with safeguarding-the most overused word ever!! Or underpin-makes me mad 😂

MeridasMum · 11/08/2021 16:16

I used to work for a guy who, when he didn't want to talk about a subject in detail or at a granular level said "I don't want to get into any spider wanking"

Idiot

marmitegirl01 · 11/08/2021 16:17

Yep I came on to cascade 🙇🏻‍♀️
Just tell the team like normal people!!

TillyTopper · 11/08/2021 16:18

Where I used to work it was really relaxed, could say anything. In a team meeting my boss came out with the line "I need you all to cross fertilise/pollinate with the other team" and some guy said "Do you mean just shag them at random?!" Everyone fell around laughing, my boss never said it again.

NotMyCat · 11/08/2021 16:19

Yeah my work is like that. If my boss said that, we would be "WTF did you go on a management speak course?!"
godmum56 · 11/08/2021 16:20

oh the good old granular level!

Fromage · 11/08/2021 16:22

Every time you hear it, fake a sneezing attack. Encourage others to do the same.
Leave the room coughing, sniffing and wiping your eyes.
Splutter "Sorry! hayfever!" as you go.

Blossomtoes · 11/08/2021 16:23

It doesn’t. You can do it with a feather.
Thunderbad8 · 11/08/2021 16:24

Another one I hate is "in its totality"

TheSockMonster · 11/08/2021 16:25

Could you start using it but “accidentally” fudge it each time?

The cross pollution of learning from project X has sent us back to the drawing board…
On Thursday Ben from Team A fertilised our team with his knowledge…

Etc.

TheKeatingFive · 11/08/2021 16:27

I don’t know why this in particular would bother you

katemuff · 11/08/2021 16:35

Say 'but if we cross pollinate too wildly we will produce sterile offspring" or "Wind pollination is best in this circumstance, spreading gametes far and wide" or "We need to use an insect vector to cross pollinate specifically in this instance" and nod wisely. Out idiot them.

AppleWatched · 11/08/2021 16:37

Offer to fertilise it with a generous dollop of bullshit?

I live near some orchards where the farmer's trialling some different fertiliser options. The rows are marked 'Chicken Shit 1', 'Chicken Shit 2' etc.
