To hate this phrase a manager at work is using

Cross pollination.

He's started saying it and writing it all the time. For example, 'it is important team A and team B are coming together at this stage to cross fertilise/pollinate knowledge and learning'.

It feels like manager buzz word jargon having gone wrong. I hate it. Feels inappropriate in a work context.

AIBU?

It feels like manager buzz word

I like that you identified it as a "buzz" word in the context of pollination

PicsInRed · 11/08/2021 16:44

"Going forward, I need someone to perform a deep dive and drill down into cross pollination and then we can all circle back and run it up the flag pole and see who salutes."

resignation letters written in heads

Topseyt · 11/08/2021 16:49

Bleurgh! It just sounds like dickhead-speak.

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 11/08/2021 16:57

Oh god, I'm cringing for him.

cat8986 · 11/08/2021 17:12

‘So we don’t ‘boil the ocean’’ was a buzz phrase all middle management seemed to use for a few months. I cringed every time.

It died out after a while so I’m sure the cross pollination will too.

aerosocks · 11/08/2021 17:16

I'm so glad I don't have to bother with meetings any more. I occasionally overhear zoom meetings my colleague is having (my desk is right beside his office door), and I thank my lucky stars it's him and not me.

Christinayangtwistedsister · 11/08/2021 17:21

Is he David Brent?

Bargebill19 · 11/08/2021 17:24

@MakkaPakkas

Ask him if you can run an idea up the flag pole and see who salutes it to change the language to ideas orgy. Perhaps the ideas orgy will get the spunk from team one into team 2 and produce a beautiful pregnancy
🤣🤣
amusedbush · 11/08/2021 17:26

Ughhh that’s some wankery of the highest order 😂😂

NoBetterthanSheShouldBe · 11/08/2021 17:39

Spider wanking sounds like a misreading of my favourite Dutch word, for a person who is obsessed with the minute details - literally translated as ant-fucker.

Mierenneuker, I think it’s spelled.

user16395699 · 11/08/2021 17:52

That's really funny.

Lulu1919 · 11/08/2021 17:54

Oh goodness..that irritating 😠

DynamoKev · 11/08/2021 17:56

@TheKeatingFive

I don’t know why this in particular would bother you
Because it is idiotic?
2bazookas · 11/08/2021 18:16

Just reply in kind , introduce lots more horticultural phrases to work talk

bearing fruit
going to seed
Needs some pruning
green shoots
Harvesting the results
weeding out the surplus
pest control
feeling sluggish
fruitful meeting
fertile ground for growth
muddy waters

With luck your colleagues will catch on and find lots more.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 11/08/2021 18:16

Our deputy manger tried that phrase...it was met by a work colleague asking the question..."sorry, but since when have we started employing bees?? Either tell us properly what you want from us or do it yourself".

All management nonsense speak stopped that day.

Potatoy · 11/08/2021 18:20

This thread has made me spill my cup of tea its so funny

PhoboPhobia · 11/08/2021 18:24

We have a WhatsApp group in our team dedicated to Bullshit Bingo. You don’t post who has said things, just the phrase.

romdowa · 11/08/2021 18:27

@MeridasMum

I used to work for a guy who, when he didn't want to talk about a subject in detail or at a granular level said "I don't want to get into any spider wanking"

Idiot

This made me chuckle! I wonder how I can use this phrase in every day life 🤣🤣🤣
LadyJaye · 11/08/2021 18:27

I dunno - of all the management guff I've come across in my career, I quite like that one... Grin
ThinWomansBrain · 11/08/2021 18:28

cross fertilise? that'll cost the organisation a lot in maternity pay and cover Grin

Undersnatch · 11/08/2021 18:31

Oh god. Maybe you should reach out to him to cascade the knowledge on how cringeworthy this shite is.

ImperfectTents · 11/08/2021 18:32

Depends which lens you are using tbf

Mum6457 · 11/08/2021 18:33

Ew. I hate it when someone refers to the male or female part of a nut and bolt.

Stovetopespresso · 11/08/2021 18:35

oh god is this phrase back/still around? i heard it 20 years ago and thought yuk then
always made me think of a mad buzzy bee with his willy out trying to shag my computer

Whenigrowupiwanttobea · 11/08/2021 18:37

Tell him to go and pollinate himself!
