To think that trampoline park socks are a scam??

Persuaded by my DCs to take them to a trampoline park last week - a chain we haven't been to before. We have trampolining socks (many pairs), but not from this chain.

I was expecting it of course, but after a fruitless argument with the receptionist who assured me that they cannot guarantee that anyone else's trampoline socks are safe, and that of course I will have to buy their branded trampoline socks. So we now have more of the feckers which will only be used once but of course can't be given back to be washed and reused by someone else.

AIBU to think this is a massive scam??

Go to the same chain so you can reuse your socks? I’m sure there is a money making element but guessing their insurance also requires them to ensure the correct socks are worn.

SimonJT · 09/08/2021 10:10

Our place make you buy theirs £1 adults or 50p for childrens, but you can bring them back as many times as you want and use them again.

linerforlife · 09/08/2021 10:12

How much are these socks?? Like if they're a £1 I don't see the issue, £8 then yeah it's a joke.

SheWoreYellow · 09/08/2021 10:14

They are usually about £1, but if you have more than one child, and a few different places it gets really annoying to have half a drawer full of worn once. No choice in where you go if there’s a party etc. The waste is irritating as well as the money.

Bramshott · 09/08/2021 10:16

They were £2.50 a pair, so not masses, but enough to be annoying when we already have perfectly good trampolining socks from other venues. I can't believe they are so different from one chain to another to make them genuinely unsafe?? And yes, the waste bothers me too, which is why I offered to give them back at the end.

I don't believe they're made differently from place to place.
We have loads from various parties.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 09/08/2021 10:29

There should be a Euro Tramp Sock.

(well a UK Tramp Sock now of course)

wordsareveryunnecessary · 09/08/2021 10:30

I had to throw DS's away after the last visit due to a green pit full of foam cubes. It stuck to the socks in tiny pieces and then went all inside my washing machine

wordsareveryunnecessary · 09/08/2021 10:31

Oh and if you go to ninja Warrior they insist on their own socks, which don't stick properly and are slippy on the inflatables !

If a parent has budgeted down to the last penny for a holiday time treat then any cost can be an issue be that £1 or £10.

DH had similar at a race track the other week. He had proper disposable masks with him but was made to pay another £5 for their disposable mask because it was apparently safer. The fact it was also identical to the one DH was wearing was seemingly lost on them.

Not unreasonable at all OP.

MotorwayDiva · 09/08/2021 10:48

I went to one were you had to have their socks, but they would exchange them free of charge, which is fine as other place don't care. Do worry that they are binned and therefore environmental impact.

eandz13 · 09/08/2021 11:06

I agree!
It also annoys me how you pay £10 per person (ish) for a 1 hour session... and then have to buy each person a pair of socks for £2.50! They should be included in the price. This really annoyed me the first time I went to a trampolining place AngryGrin

LadyJJ · 09/08/2021 11:10

I take special needs people on trampolines as part of my job in the NHS.
Our risk assessment just says socks...

NaturalStudy · 09/08/2021 11:10

I just re wear mine like normal socks. They only have small rubber pads on the bottom, they're fine in trainers.

Cherrypi · 24/04/2022 21:57

£2 a pair here. It's such a swizz. I had two different trampolining socks from rival firms that they wouldn't accept.

"Special needs people" Hmm

Dreambigger · 24/04/2022 22:00

Total swizz!! Drives me mad!

modgepodge · 24/04/2022 22:01

I had this the other day…at soft play!! And any adult who would be accompanying on the equipment (that’ll be both of us then as we took it in turns) needed them too. So soft play for child £7.95. Then an extra £6 on 3 pairs of socks.

oh, and we were on holiday, so the chances of returning are minimal. In the unlikely event we return to that area and go back to the soft play, the chances of me remembering to pack all the socks is zero. 3 pairs of socks for landfill, whoop.

Just seen this is a Zombie thread - @Cherrypi how did you come across it? Was in it Active?!

Drives me potty, YANBU

ImTheFuckOffCar · 24/04/2022 22:26

Every where I’ve been lets you use the socks from any other park. I’d be annoyed at being made to buy their own if I had perfectly good ones in my bag.

ImTheFuckOffCar · 24/04/2022 22:27

Shit 🧟‍♀️

savehannah · 24/04/2022 22:27

Yes it's annoying. If they're £2.50 that adds up to a lot if you have several kids. But I'm surprised anyone has so many different parks nearby that it's a huge problem,if you're organised just take the same brand socks when you revisit the same place.

Ironically my kids go to actual trampoline classes run by a proper British Gymnastics club and they just wear any old socks.

I was going to start a thread but saw someone had moaned about it already. I know there are bigger issues but it really irritated me.
