This is lighthearted but I'm genuinely interested to hear anyone else experiences and any recommendations from fellow pear shapers as to the best comfortable, skinny fit jeans/jeggings that don't cost the earth or show your cellulite through them!?!

So, I happened to have gone to Primarni last week and bought three pairs of their jeggings...tenner each..perfect I thought.

I'm currently a size 16 and 5'2" who has put on quite a bit over the last year or so. I've got clothes in a 14 that are hugely snug at the mo. I've been eating healthier and have been working through couch to 5k over the last few weeks.
No, I'm not expecting miracles but definitely can feel the few pounds I've lost, less bloated etc.

Anyway, I wanted some comfy clothes for holiday. Begrudge spending a fortune as genuinely am sorting myself out and plan to lost what I've put on ( I'm 40, need to be healthier in general..want to lost weight but health really is main motivator now!)
Bought 16, for £30 for three pairs I'm happy with that.
They.dont.go.near.me.
Genuinely felt gutted, how could I have gone from 14 is feeling tight to suddenly needing size 20!?!
Happened to see this article yesterday. As much as I'm angry and furious that, if this is true, this must be so damaging to so many people. I'm relatively body confident nowadays...I am what I am and want to lost a bit but more for health than looks...but in my younger years, I'd have been really wounded by this.

Anyway, anyone else found the same thing?
YABU: no, I've got no issue with Primarni sizing
YANBU: YES! I too have experienced small sizing at Primarni.
Also, can any fellow short arse pear shapers recommend comfy, fitted, high waist jeans (to hold in the mum tum) with stretch (as waist:hip ratio is ridiculous) that aren't paper thin to show through your cellulite and dont cost a fortune!?!?!
TIA

Dorothy Perkins Eden. Come in different lengths.

myBumJuiceSmellsLikeRoses · 04/08/2021 10:33

Also 5'2. Put on some tub during lockdown.
Don't generally go to Primark but can recommend Sports Direct.

Goldigga Jean Jeggings 14.50 or Miso Jeggings 10 quid.
They do 3 leg lengths and I get the short in both.
The Miso ones are elasticated waste - both are stretchy.

Hope that helps you.

myBumJuiceSmellsLikeRoses · 04/08/2021 10:35

Goldigga are 14.99, not 14.50

KurtWilde · 04/08/2021 10:38

Primark sizing is ridiculous. I'm a size 12 jeans yet at primark if I buy a 12 I can't even get it up my legs let alone up to my waist, and that's a stretch jean at that. I need a size 16 there. It's really no wonder women have such issues with body image and sizing when primark clearly make everything tiny.

Northernlassie1974 · 04/08/2021 10:44

Ooooh thanks both, I'm off in an hour to take back the awful Primark ones so will check out both Dorothy Perkins for those ones and Sports Direct! KurtWilde....absolutely!

I find primary true to size, other stores seem to have massively increased their sizes though. I ordered some fat face shorts in size 12 as my very old size 10s were too snug. The new size 12 are massive, I measured them and the waist band is 4 inches bigger than my old size 10s

Thingsdogetbetter · 04/08/2021 11:44

Sizing is not regulated and should never be trusted in any shop and seems to change from season to season and garments to garment in the same shop.

Primark are sized for teenagers who are assumed to have skinnier limbs. M&S for older women with thicker waists. Zara for Spanish women who are more petite. No idea who H&M are designed for tbh (I'm a size 10/12, but easily a 16 for some, but not all, garments there)!

The moral of this is don't bother looking at size labels. Use your eye, common sense and try everything on or at the very least hold it up to your body.

Waists are general double your neck size. If trousers or leggings wrap round your neck fully, they'll usual fit your waist.

Chibbles · 04/08/2021 11:47

Ha! Go to Zara, I'm 5ft 4, 9st 8, size 10-12, couldn't get a pair of 14 Zara jeans over my thighs.

Bastards.

Sparklesocks · 04/08/2021 11:48

I think it rarely varies with primark. Some things are very true to size but others are completely not! Seems to depend on the cut/material but I find with ‘tighter’ items you need to size up.

Iamthewombat · 04/08/2021 12:12

In what shop is the Tik Tok woman a size 10?

As for boycotting shops because of the sizing…she needs to grow up. If she wants cheap clothes she needs to accept that the clothes will be made in poorer parts of the world, where labour is cheap, and that sizing might not be consistent between eg Bangladesh and Vietnam.

This, of course, is why Wallis, in its day, was a popular shop. The sizes were always very generous and everyone knew it. Worrying to see that people are so easily swayed in their shopping decisions by a size label. Not only that, but she thinks that the purveyor of cheap clothes should be castigated for ‘making her feel bad’!

Oops sorry that is meant to be really varies!
Phineyj · 04/08/2021 12:27

I got a couple of pairs leggings from Mint Velvet (via the John Lewis website) and they are comfy and fit well. The material is fairly thick.

RyanReynoldsHusband · 04/08/2021 12:34

It works both ways though, doesn’t it? I can fit into some ‘smalls’ in some sizes. I am not a small.

dontputitinyourmouth · 04/08/2021 12:38

M&S jeggings are great, £15, loads of colours and fit really well

I love the M and S ones!

I usually wear a 16 (since lockdown!) and although have lost some tub through exercise am not what I would describe a natural 14. But I'm not loner a 16 iyswim!

I have jogging from Matalan and M and S which are size 16 and comfy.

I bought some cropped exercise leggings from Sainburys the other day in a 16 and they are a generous size!

StormyTeacups · 04/08/2021 12:43

She's never a 10. If she's a 10 I'm a 12 (fyi, I'm an 18 😂)

However, she's not wrong that sizes are bonkers. To be fair, cheap shops are notorious for inconsistent sizing. How has she only just discovered this? Pay peanuts and all that...

JustWonderingIfYou · 04/08/2021 12:46

Primark sizing is shit. I vary between a xxs and m. Everyone knows it's shit. They obviously don't spend any money on pattern cutting.

However, that woman in the video is clearly a Uk14-16 at best. She is a size 10 in her dreams or possibly in the US. Nothing wrong with that but a disingenuous tiktok. Primark have her sizing spot on.

HeadNorth · 04/08/2021 12:49

I've clicked on the story and the strange thing to me is that she fits size 10 in other shops - vanity sizing must be everywhere else then, because in no universe does that woman look like a size 10. Come on, get real.

ConstanceGracy · 04/08/2021 13:41

I will sound a bit snobby but I really don’t like primark clothes. Not only are they not the best quality but the time I actually bought a ton and wore it out I saw 3 other people in it that same day. I hate that.
Now I only go there for cheap holiday stuff like cover ups etc.. but yes, I do think their sizes are a bit erratic

ConstanceGracy · 04/08/2021 13:42

Shirleyphallus · 04/08/2021 13:45

Primark sizing is all over the place but unless thag woman in the video is really short she’s never a 10 in real life!

Tealwarrior · 04/08/2021 13:47

I read the article yesterday OP and there is no way on earth the women in it is a size 10.

honeyytoast · 04/08/2021 14:06

I’ve always struggled with primark jeans. The rest of their stuff is fine - runs big even - but can’t squeeze a leg into what apparently is my size in jeans Hmm

SchrodingersMat · 04/08/2021 14:28

I don’t doubt the sizing is dodgy at Primark but she is not a 10, more a 14.

Scarlettpixie · 04/08/2021 14:30

Sainsbury’s luxury black leggings are the best and come in different leg lengths. I an 5’8 and size 18 so buy an 18L. They don’t fall down and aren’t see through!
