This is lighthearted but I'm genuinely interested to hear anyone else experiences and any recommendations from fellow pear shapers as to the best comfortable, skinny fit jeans/jeggings that don't cost the earth or show your cellulite through them!?!

So, I happened to have gone to Primarni last week and bought three pairs of their jeggings...tenner each..perfect I thought.

I'm currently a size 16 and 5'2" who has put on quite a bit over the last year or so. I've got clothes in a 14 that are hugely snug at the mo. I've been eating healthier and have been working through couch to 5k over the last few weeks.
No, I'm not expecting miracles but definitely can feel the few pounds I've lost, less bloated etc.

Anyway, I wanted some comfy clothes for holiday. Begrudge spending a fortune as genuinely am sorting myself out and plan to lost what I've put on ( I'm 40, need to be healthier in general..want to lost weight but health really is main motivator now!)
Bought 16, for £30 for three pairs I'm happy with that.
They.dont.go.near.me.
Genuinely felt gutted, how could I have gone from 14 is feeling tight to suddenly needing size 20!?!
Happened to see this article yesterday. As much as I'm angry and furious that, if this is true, this must be so damaging to so many people. I'm relatively body confident nowadays...I am what I am and want to lost a bit but more for health than looks...but in my younger years, I'd have been really wounded by this.

Anyway, anyone else found the same thing?
YABU: no, I've got no issue with Primarni sizing
YANBU: YES! I too have experienced small sizing at Primarni.
Also, can any fellow short arse pear shapers recommend comfy, fitted, high waist jeans (to hold in the mum tum) with stretch (as waist:hip ratio is ridiculous) that aren't paper thin to show through your cellulite and dont cost a fortune!?!?!
TIA

I bought an entire outfit in primark last year.

Crop top: size 16
Pinafore dress: size 14
Oversized coat: size 12
Mom jeans: size 18.

They all fit perfectly

LakieLady · 04/08/2021 14:41

M&S for older women with thicker waists

I'm 65. I'm generally an 18 top and 16 bottom (although I sometimes need a 20 in shirts because I carry it all before me and buttons gape now that they don't bother putting darts in things).

M&S jeans and trousers are invariably too big on the waist. When the fit on my waist, they are hugely baggy on the arse and thighs. New Look ditto.

I gave up trying to shop in Primark 20+ years ago because of their very weird sizing.

Hobbs clothes fit me really well. I need to find a shop that has clothes cut like Hobbs but at Primark prices.

BarbaraofSeville · 04/08/2021 14:44

I agree that woman is not a size 10 in jeans. She looks about the same size as me. I'm a 14 to 16.

OP, M&S Jeans are very good and well priced. More expensive than Primark, but almost certainly better quality, fit nicer, more comfortable, and you'll probably fit into a 14 or 16 at most.

Jody21 · 04/08/2021 14:45

The 'Julie' leggings from Bon Marche are the most comfortable ones I've ever bought. Elastic waistband so no slipping down, really soft and comfy to wear. I went back and bought several pairs in case they went out of stock!

Sunshinedaisymeadowsxx · 04/08/2021 14:50

I’m a size 10, 5ft 8 probably average sized boobs. Trousers can range at primark from a 10-14 for me…. I tried a few tops on there last week and couldn’t even get the 12 over my boobs 🙈🤣 I bought in a 14… for me I’m not bothered about the sizing if you can try them on and have time. For me it’s the issue when your in a hurry and grab your size but then at home it’s 4x too small 🤣🤣

ColinKnocksTwoPence · 04/08/2021 16:44

No way is the woman in the video a size 10 😂

I don't think Primark sizing are wrong, it's just that vanity sizing over the years in all the other shops has skewed people's perception of size.
I am the same weight now at 56 as I was when I was 15 and yet I have gone from a 12 down to an 8 and often a 6.

StormyTeacups · 04/08/2021 17:27

It is unpredictable, which is the annoying bit. Probably because they source from so many different suppliers.

Purplepeoniesdroppingpetals · 04/08/2021 17:36

@MiaowMiaow99

Dorothy Perkins Eden. Come in different lengths.
These are awesome
brokenbiscuitsx · 04/08/2021 18:05

I remember trying on jeans in Next a few years back, I was and am still a 12-14 but not even a size 18 would fit. I felt awful but then remembered it wasn’t me who had hit bigger they’ve just put the wrong size on 😊

brokenbiscuitsx · 04/08/2021 18:06

Got bigger*

ohthatbloodycat · 04/08/2021 22:49

I've actually banned my teens from ordering any more jeans online! They're the hardest thing to get right, and really need trying on in a changing room prior to purchase.

BumCat · 04/08/2021 23:11

I read this article yesterday and was a bit perplexed. I was a size 10 three years ago and now I’m a 12/14 and look very similar to her. I wouldn’t be able to get my size 10’s past my knees either.

Personally haven’t had a problem with primark. H&M used to be terrible though, I had an old pair of jeggings a size 10 from them and bought the exact same style (when still a size 10) a couple of years later and had to buy a 14. Both fitted me exactly the same. Bizarre.

MumofSpud · 04/08/2021 23:15

What I don't get though is somebody saying they are a size 10 but in all the shops they can only fit in a size 14 Hmm

Snugglybuggly · 04/08/2021 23:24

M&S skinny jeans?!

Hobnobsandbroomstick · 04/08/2021 23:33

There's no way that that girl in the video is a size 10.

Saying that, yes I find primark sizing can be off sometimes. I bought a multipack of knickers in size 10 - 12 from there ages ago, and they were all different sizes 🤣

Hobnobsandbroomstick · 04/08/2021 23:38

Said pants, all from same multi pack and meant to be 10 - 12!

AIBU to ask if anyone else has the same experience???
Fumnudge · 04/08/2021 23:48

I have 2 identically styled pairs of jeans from Primark, bought 2 yrs apart. Size 16 first pair, fitted well but I subsequently lost 2 stone so are now a bit baggy. So I bought another pair EXACTLY the same style (I checked the label) after lockdown ended.
They looked smaller so I went for a 16 again (changing rooms were still closed). Tiny! I look like a pinched chipolata.
So they can't even stick to their own sizing guides.

Sciurus83 · 05/08/2021 02:49

I've had the opposite problem in Primark, especially their maternity where things have come up absolutely huge. The sizing and cuts are often off there, trying things on is a sure fire way of saving money!

Monty27 · 05/08/2021 02:57

I bought a pack of the women's boxer shorts from Primark recently size 6-8
They have to be 14+

NiceGerbil · 05/08/2021 03:29

Most shops size according to who their market is surely?

A 10 in Primark or Topshop is very different to a 10 in brands marketed to eg 40 or 60yo.

I thought that was common knowledge?!

NiceGerbil · 05/08/2021 03:33

Also different cuts.

Some cut for Apple some for pear.

I'm an apple and with next trousers I looked like wearing jodhpurs like Chris eubank!

The sizing is meaningless.

Cut and fit are the only things that matter. And comfort. And looking good on you obv!

It's very silly. A total non story.. must be a slow news day!

MiddleParking · 05/08/2021 05:01

If you insist you’re a size 10 when you’re clearly not and refuse to buy a size 16 when that’s what fits you then all you’re going to end up with is no clothes Confused what’s the point?

FortunesFave · 05/08/2021 05:46

That woman is NOT a 10! My DD is a 10 and looks TINY compared to that photo.

She's a 16 if she's a day.

60sbird · 05/08/2021 08:35

I buy mine from Uniqlo, I have about 12 pairs in 2 different sizes where my weight goes up and down like whores drawers

DrDetriment · 05/08/2021 08:51

I find I'm pretty much a standard size 8 wherever I go. But I rarely buy new clothes and things like jeans I can only get from a couple places because I'm so short so perhaps I don't notice the size differences.

That woman is deluding herself if she thinks she's a 10. I'd say a 14, maybe a 16.
