Period cramps but no period.

ladymuck111 · 03/08/2021 18:49

I've posted this elsewhere but had no replies so asking here as there's more chance of it being seen.

All day today I have had quite strong period pains and lower back ache. I feel like I should be having a monster period but I'm not.

I'm on progesterone only pill - desogestrel and haven't had a period since June. I'm not pregnant as I've just done a test to rule it out and it is negative.

I have anxiety so now I'm beginning to freak out, I've made the mistake of googling and I'm now feeling stupidly anxious. The cramps were quite strong this morning then eased off, now they're back again 😕

Has anyone else experienced this before? Looking on my period tracker I would be due a period in 3-4 days if I was having periods.

Have you recently had your covid jab? That can throw things out of whack. I had cramps for days before things finally showed up.

ladymuck111 · 03/08/2021 18:56

Yes! I had my second vaccine on 15th July. I don't really get many periods on this pill and only some occasional spotting. The cramps I keep getting today are like early labour Confused

Is it possibly the second vaccine has caused this?

I don’t know the answer to this but I’m experiencing the exact same thing. I’m peri and haven’t had a period since the start of May, not pregnant according to 3 tests. I had my second jab on the 21st
Following with interest

I'm wondering about peri too as I'm 44.

It's doing my head in. I've even worn my best white knickers to dare my period to start. I used to get ovulation pains when I wasn't on the pill and this feels very similar just more crampy.

I had exactly the same thing this cycle, felt like I was in early labour for a week and a very late period, I was miserable. I did wonder if it could be attributable to the vaccine, but it does happen very occasionally. High progesterone levels do tend to cause cramping I believe.

Roselilly36 · 03/08/2021 19:42

Could you be pregnant? I had cramps and was convinced my period would start when TTC DS1. I was late took a test and found out I was pregnant.

ETPhoneHome19 · 03/08/2021 19:44

I had the same after my second vaccine and a few days of spotting

ladymuck111 · 03/08/2021 19:45

Thankyou for all the replies. It's calmed my anxiety down massively.

It didn't occur to me that it could be caused by the vaccine at least. And it's pretty much 3 weeks ago since I had it so it's probably starting to kick in.

I've tested this evening and it is negative.

This happened to me after my first covid jab. Had my second jab a few weeks ago and am due my period this weekend. I have endometriosis so no stranger to painful periods but the last one was awful. Also had severe cramps for about a day and a half before my period arrived. Avoided driving for a few days because I didn't feel safe behind the wheel with the pain.

It's horrible. After my second jab I felt so knackered (still do!) - and I had a mouth full of ulcers.

Reading the responses now makes me wonder if it is jab related. Hopefully the cramps will go or I'll start my period- which will be inconvenient because I'm going away at the end of the week!

I just looked at this thread while browsing through a few and upon reading it have realised I am actually going through similar, I am on the contraceptive injection and do not get periods but have felt like I'm about to come on for a couple of weeks (although it has eased quite a lot these past couple of days) had second covid vaccine 8th of July...

MrsFlinch · 03/08/2021 20:24

I’m another one in peri, am 46 and haven’t had a period since the beginning of March. But my pmt/peri symptoms, (including cramp) are very much alive and kicking especially when missing period should be due.
For instance I know judging by my symptoms this week it should be here any day now. I’m keeping fingers crossed it doesn’t come though!
So am assuming although you have lack of periods due to the pill, will still be possible to get pmt.

Also like others have said it “could” be vaccine related as lots of reports of it messing with a woman’s cycle.
I’m double vaccinated, but all this started before I’d even had my first vaccine so am absolutely sure the vaccine has had no effect on my periods.

MrsFlinch · 03/08/2021 20:27

Actually I forgot to add, my pmt/peri symptoms definitely got worse after my first vaccine but had second just over 2 weeks ago and nothing out of the ordinary as of yet!

The cramps have eased off again, if AF doesn't arrive in the next few days I'll contact my GP.

I'm debating whether to report it on the Yellow Card thing though.

OP posts:
ladymuck111 · 04/08/2021 08:23

I've just contacted my GP, I've woken up still feeling crampy and as though my AF needs to arrive. Maybe it is on its way and I'm just getting a few days worth of cramps and feeling lousy before she actually shows up.

I keep thinking I should take some paracetamol but then the cramps ease so I don't take them.

OP posts:
ladymuck111 · 04/08/2021 15:46

I've got a video consult with a GP this evening. Cramps weren't so bad earlier on but they're ramping up again, I feel so lethargic and crap.

Took paracetamol at lunchtime and I can tell they're wearing off.

Hope your period arrives and you feel better soon. I'm apprehensive about mine arriving this weekend.

IWantAllTheDogsInTheWorld · 04/08/2021 17:07

I'm on double dose deostrogel as part of my HRT and I get similar cramps when I'm halfway through each pack; feels like I'm about to start my period, lower pelvic and back cramping etc but not sore boobs, nothing ever comes of it though, no bleeding, it is uncomfortable for a few hours each day and only for a couple of days (but I'd rather that than the erratic flooding I used to get during peri menopause!) I've got used to it now but I'm curious to see what your doctor suggests.

ladymuck111 · 04/08/2021 18:16

I'm feeling pretty crap right now. I feel washed out and tired. Cramping - still feels almost like early labour but it is coming and going.

I'm getting all anxious now about it worrying there's something wrong. But I'm not in severe pain and it's just a horrible dragging in my groin.

OP posts:
ladymuck111 · 04/08/2021 19:52

I've had my online consult and the GP I spoke to said it could be a possibility that the vaccine is causing my symptoms or I have a UTI or some other kind of infection going on down there.

So, I am to call my GP tomorrow to arrange a water sample and swabs.

If your period isn't quite due yet it could be too early for an accurate pregnancy test. Could be implantation cramps. Hope you became get to the bottom of things!

I'm never quite sure when I am due on because the pill stops my periods Confused. I don't think I am pregnant, I haven't missed any pills and they've all been taken correctly. Im pretty sure im not pg or I hope im not anywayShock

How is your period just due if your last one was in June?

ladymuck111 · 04/08/2021 20:44

@Looubylou

How is your period just due if your last one was in June?
I have a period tracker app and if my cycles were 'normal' then another period would be due in a couple of days time.
