Dog poo in their garden.

Hi all! Not sure what the point of this post is really but just went to vent.

Dh took dc to his mum and dads a couple days ago. They have 2 large dogs. We've been over there before and there's been dog poo all over their small garden they haven't picked up. So much so dh has done a it before. In laws are very able and capable to do it. They have grown up children at home who could do it too.

When they got home, I asked Dd if she had a good time. She did but said she wasn't allowed outside as no one picked any poo up and there was lots of it. I am glad she wasn't allowed on the grass obviously. I spoke to dh who said that it was true what she said. So Dd wasn't exaggerating. I am not sure why he didn't offer to do it, but it's not really his job to do so.

But aibu to be really bleddy annoyed? The visit was planned for a good week. So they knew they were coming. Surely they would pick it up first? There's 4 very capable adults in the house. Drives me mad.

The kids were stuck on the patio and park area which is quite small playing metres away from loads of dog poo.

We have a dog, we check the garden multiple times a day when the kids go out to play.

Aibu to think it's just pure laziness?

It generally puts me off letting them play on the grass even when it is picked up because little bits may remain.

They barely ever cut the grass either. I just get really annoyed. I couldn't have visitors over without picking it all up first. Think it's vile.

YANBU - it’s just laziness and shows you how little they give a shit (pardon the pun!) about visitors, even their own GC.

Esspee · 03/08/2021 15:28

I agree. Even if picked up no child should be playing where dogs have been shitting.

dirtyfries · 03/08/2021 15:31

YANBU. This is an ongoing annoyance of mine with my PIL. They have a large dog with a sensitive stomach. They insist on feeding him off their plates and changing his dog food all the time dependent on what's on offer which means their small garden is regularly covered in runny dog poo. They didn't even clear it up properly when they had a garden party a few months ago and poor DN sat in some Envy

thanksforyourcommentrandomman · 03/08/2021 15:31

It's disgusting, I was chatting with a guy at work yesterday and he said that he needed to clear the garden as there's a month's worth of dog shit out there Shock

I can't understand anyone not picking it up straight away

Penistoe · 03/08/2021 15:32

Their garden must stink, gross.

lazyarse123 · 03/08/2021 15:32

It's gross. My ndn has spent a fortune on her garden, it looks a sight because she does stuff and then leaves it for weeks, anyway she has a dog and rarely picks his poo up. I was in the garden and heard her young visitor say "ooh look at all the poo mum" I was in stitches, made my day mainly because I can't stand her.

TheAwfuITruth · 03/08/2021 15:33

Ugh do people like this never use the garden themselves? Not to toilet in Grin but to sit, relax etc.

Can't imagine sitting out with a cup of tea, feet from piles of dog shite.

TheAwfuITruth · 03/08/2021 15:34

And I do have a dog myself, but she poos on her walks thankfully.

LaBellina · 03/08/2021 15:38

Their garden must stink up to high heaven in the hot weather. Disgusting, I never understood that people can live like this 🤮.

But if they’re that lax about hygiene, I wouldn’t want my child to play in their garden even after they had picked it because I can assure you they wouldn’t have hosed down the grass as most of us with a sense of cleanness would have done after picking up the shit. Also, they apparently don’t bother to do some effort to make the visit nicer for the GC. I wouldn’t bother taking the children there next time. If they want to see them, they can come to your house.

freelions · 03/08/2021 15:41

That is grim!

Does that mean you don't have to pick it up? Hmm

No of course not, I always pick up without fail. The 'thankfully' was just that it's never in the garden, before I sit out Grin

Hemingwaycat · 03/08/2021 16:06

Wow, their garden must stink. Totally grim, most people would be mortified to have a shit laden garden.

Topseyt · 03/08/2021 16:10

It smacks of laziness to me. I go out to our garden every day to clear up the dog poo. I do it once a day usually, more often if we are going to have visitors.

Occasionally if the weather is really terrible I skip a day or so, but I do go out and clear up as soon as a good enough window of opportunity comes up.

thereisonlyoneofme · 03/08/2021 16:14

my NDN are like this garden was wall to wall poo until landlord pitched up. Then they bagged it up but bags are piled up in the garden and stored in a dustbin too. What are they saving it for, is there a market for dog poo as garden mulch !

SueSaid · 03/08/2021 16:20

Urgh just disgusting. Apart from the stink there must be flies everywhere.

I wouldn't let my dc go to a household with such low hygiene standards tbh. I mean why, just why leave a load of dog crap in the garden Shock.

Iom92 · 03/08/2021 16:29

Disgusting. Our dog does her morning poo in our back garden. We watch for her doing it and as soon as she’s finished we immediately go and pick it all up, bag it and bin it in the wheelie bin. I even pick up the grass that it was on as I can’t bare the thought of tiny poo particles being left. She does her second poo on her walk and we always bag it and bin it in either a council bin or bring it home and pop it in our wheelie bin. I really do think people should be licensed to own dogs because of people tolerate this level of dirtiness in their own gardens, you can guarantee they won’t be picking it up on dog walks. Disgusting! It causes blindness in children!

NonShallot · 03/08/2021 16:30

I once had to go to someone's house for work purposes with two colleagues and the front path, patio and garden were all covered in dog shit. You honestly couldn't step a metre in either direction without there being a poo. Unfortunately one of us stood in some by accident and then trod it in the house, and the CFs had the audacity to complain to our boss that we brought dog shit into their house!

Wafflehouse · 03/08/2021 16:38

Our neighbours do this and it makes our garden stink, they occasionally go out and pick it up but usually only when they have visitors coming. I check our garden daily and I don’t even have any pets, but there are lots of cats that come in and we have hedgehogs most nights.

quizqueen · 03/08/2021 16:39

They are obviously not walking their dogs enough if they are pooing in the garden regularly. Tell your in laws you will not visit again unless their garden is free of of poo every time.

RainyMondays · 03/08/2021 16:43

Yuck, the garden must really smell in hot weather!

We have a 'poop pen' for our dog in the garden, it's just a dog play pen with the door open that she uses for wees and poos. We clear and rinse it several times a day.

AdoraBell · 03/08/2021 16:46

Speaking as a dog owner, YANBU. It’s disgusting to leave the poo. Your DH is right to keep DC off the grass. Personally I wouldn’t go there again as the track record is they don’t care about their being covered in poo.

Could your DH suggest meeting at a park?

MotionActivatedDog · 03/08/2021 16:52

Urgh. I bet their house is filthy too. I wouldn’t have my DC there.

pigsDOfly · 03/08/2021 16:54

How on earth do people live like that?

I have a small dog who does her morning poo in the garden immediately after breakfast and it's picked up, bagged and put in the wheelie bin as soon as she does it.

She sometimes poos again when we're out on one of her walks later in the day, which is, obviously, also picked up immediately.

I wouldn't watch her poo in the park and go back several days later to pick it up, why would anyone do that in their own garden.

They must have flies buzzing around flying into the house having been in the garden and very likely been feasting on the poo.

That really is disgusting.

I'm afraid I wouldn't be visiting them any time soon.

SueSaid · 03/08/2021 17:01

Exactly. It gives a snapshot of some people's woefully low standards doesn't it. If they cba to pick a load of dog crap up I bet there's many other things they don't bother with.

One of our dcs went to their friends last week for a bbq, the dad merrily tossing burgers while there was piles of dog poo everywhere. It's just utterly revolting isn't it.
