I’ve been looking for an old friend on FB and am pretty certain that this is their profile, but it’s completely blank. There’s no photos, no details or anything. Does it mean their account has been deactivated?

No just means everything is private and has no profile or cover photo.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 30/07/2021 19:47

No. It means they set their privacy properly strict.

More people should learn that

EmmaC78 · 30/07/2021 19:47

I think it just means they have the maximum privacy settings on so no posts, photos etc are visible to anyone that is not on their friends list.

TheSunShinesBrighter · 30/07/2021 19:50

Not deactivated.

Could mean:
Unused, permanently empty
All privacy settings are set to ‘only me’ or for specific people to see only

Your name has not been been blocked because if it was you would not even get this far.

SRK16 · 30/07/2021 19:50

No, just means they have high privacy settings or haven’t added information to their profile.

Wordsmith · 30/07/2021 19:52

Profile and cover pics are always public tho. It means they haven't added any.

Coffee86 · 30/07/2021 19:52

Lots of people wrong

If the profile photo was set to friends only, a non friend can see the pic and not click on it. All background photos are publicly viewable.

If your friend is using it she's hardly active if at all. If you want to get her attention send her a friend request.

icelollycraving · 30/07/2021 19:54

They haven’t uploaded pics and have decent privacy.

NeonJellyBaby · 30/07/2021 20:02

So basically she just has very tight privacy settings then? I knew I hadn’t been blocked because when your blocked you can’t see anything.

No.

They haven't got a profile picture nor a cover photo.

Yes. Maximum privacy settings. They also haven’t got a profile picture or a cover photo.
NeonJellyBaby · 30/07/2021 20:30

Strange. Not sure why you wouldn’t have a photo or cover photo? But anyway I’ll send a friend request and see if she responds or not.

BeyondMyWits · 30/07/2021 20:36

I don't have a photo or cover photo. Because my social media presence is for me, for my benefit, so that I can share things with close friends and family only.

For privacy. Lots of people don't. I do but it's not my face anyway

Why do people join Facebook if they want their privacy. Confused.

MeanderingGently · 30/07/2021 20:42

Some people have registered for Facebook but literally don't post anything, no pictures, no details, nothing. Bascally it means they don't use Facebook themselves but in order to look at anyone else's, you have to be registered, so they just do that in order to take the odd look from time to time.....

My FB profile is set like this.

I don't want FB to enable people to look at me, i have it for other things

:)

I have FB and have my privacy settings so that I can’t be searched for. If someone decided to click on my name for instance if I comment on a friend’s post they can’t see anything other than a generic profile and cover pic.

Many years ago an ex stalked me for a couple of years. Very scary. My FB is invisible to non friends, you cannot find me if you search my name, and my privacy settings are high.
Chloemol · 30/07/2021 20:58

Mines like that, no pictures privacy settings at the highest

QueenBee52 · 30/07/2021 20:59

I don't use FB..

however a few of my friends have accounts they don't use.. there is literally nothing on it .. no friends.. only me settings.. completely blank ..

the reason..

so nobody can set up a fake account using their name for many reasons including being malicious online..

one referred to it as.. claiming ownership of their name ..

Maybe there is something to this 🤔

XenoBitch · 30/07/2021 21:03

Looks like they set up an account and didn't add anything to their profile. Even with the highest privacy settings, your profile pic is still public, as are a few other bits.
I have been accused of being a troll on FB due to my privacy settings. Some people think it odd that your whole profile is not on show to anyone who looks at it.

saveforthat · 30/07/2021 21:04

I have a Facebook account that looks like that. I set it up when my son was a teenager to keep an eye on him. Occasionally use it to look up other people.

Just a wild guess but maybe they want to be able to find out information or join groups they are interested in or be connected to people.

There's no facebook law that says you have to have photos and profile info or be public in any way

How does it claim ownership of their name?

There's no limit to how many accounts there can be in a name, there could be a million Jane Smiths. I don't undertstand the thinking there
