Balloon company won’t sell me a balloon to release

Gonewiththegin · 29/07/2021 11:48

Just as the title suggests. I regularly use the same balloon company and had asked them to do a memorial balloon. They replied they do not sell balloons to be released. AIBU to think they have no say what I do with said balloon once I’ve paid £30 to have it made.

You know you are being unreasonable.
It's dangerous to release balloons. Animals get killed because of them.
There are plenty of other ways to remember someone.

Workyticket · 29/07/2021 11:49

Balloon releases are harmful. Why would you want to? They are quite right and actually admirable

iklboo · 29/07/2021 11:50

Good.

Hoppinggreen · 29/07/2021 11:50

Good
Nice to see companies behaving ethically

LadyCatStark · 29/07/2021 11:50

YABU because they’re terrible for the environment and wildlife. Imagine if a lamb or a calf ended up eating the remains of the balloon and died. Would it really be worth it?

MedusasBadHairDay · 29/07/2021 11:50

Well done them honestly

Viviennemary · 29/07/2021 11:50

I expect they are just following guidelines re the release of balloons. Which aren't really a good thing for the environment. Animsls choke on them and so on.

gardeninggirl68 · 29/07/2021 11:50

Good for them!!!!

Hope more and more places will refuse too

littleducks · 29/07/2021 11:50

Wish more places would do this

twighlighting · 29/07/2021 11:51

Yabu!! It's dangerous and wasteful. I could think of many other ways to spend 30quid to mark a memorial. You are being utterly utterly Ridiculous!!!

SacramentoQueen · 29/07/2021 11:51

I imagine they are trying to be a responsible company and do what they can to make sure they don’t have a part in balloon releases as it can kill livestock

CounsellorTroi · 29/07/2021 11:51

YABVU. Good for the company.

FasterthanBolt · 29/07/2021 11:51

They sound like a great company. Not only is helium a depleting source and shouldn't be allowed for blowing up balloons, releasing a piece of plastic that can potentially kill wildlife is incredibly irresponsible.

gardeninggirl68 · 29/07/2021 11:51

Oh sorry, is this one of those goady threads??

RubyGoat · 29/07/2021 11:51

Good. Animals eat them, & die horrible slow deaths.

mildlymiffed · 29/07/2021 11:51

Good. Having been on a paddleboard recently in Devon, I was quite upset to see the number of sad old balloons floating in the sea. I fished them out.

Geamhradh · 29/07/2021 11:51

Excellent news. Finally getting the message. Am pleasantly surprised.

Iwouldlikesomecake · 29/07/2021 11:51

Well ultimately YABU for releasing memorial balloons as it will just burst and damage or kill wildlife. So although it’s probably anyone’s right to do what they want with something they buy, good on the company for trying to stop environmental damage through misuse of their products.

Sorry for your loss OP. Could you do something else in memory of them?

Flaunch · 29/07/2021 11:51

It’s just littering isn’t it.

CounsellorTroi · 29/07/2021 11:52

At best they are littering. At worst they are very hazardous to wildlife.

MayorGoodwaysChicken · 29/07/2021 11:52

I’m sorry that there’s a loss you’re struggling with but I just can’t see how doing something harmful and potentially fatal to animals is a nice or appropriate way to celebrate or remember anything. The company is right and responsible. Surely you can find a way to mark your occasion that doesn’t harm nature? Why would you want to do something you know is harmful and how would doing something bad help you to mark a loss?

999caffeineplease · 29/07/2021 11:52

Weird to remember a dead loved one by causing more death

Justcallmebebes · 29/07/2021 11:53

Sorry, but I am really, really pleased to hear this. Good on the company. Just need to ban those bloody candle lit lanterns next

Can you memorialise in another way?

TidyDancer · 29/07/2021 11:53

I appreciate you've suffered a loss and I'm sorry to hear of that, but the company have made the right decision.

Balloon releases are terrible and harmful and I'm glad companies are finally catching some morals on this.

Ednafrommooneyponds · 29/07/2021 11:53

I hope you don't ever need an MRI scan. Such a waste of finite helium.
