Help! Taps turning on at 3am!

We moved into a new house 2 weeks ago and last night I woke up to hear running water.. I knew it was the bath and thought it was my partner bathing before work (he usually showers at 5am) I realised it was still dark so thought it can't be him as it's too early.. i checked time and it was 3.05am... i went in to find the hot tap on (fully, not dripping or dribbling) and the bath was almost full as I'd left the plug in from bathing baby at 7pm...

I remembered this morning that last week friends came round and I went to the loo to notice the hot tap was on in bathroom SINK but thought nothing of it as just thought they hadn't turned it off...

I contacted previous owner, they said nothing like that happened to them...

Can there be a logical explanation rather than paranormal???

You have a ghost, sorry. Or someone living in your attic.

WellErm · 28/07/2021 20:38

Poltergeist!

userxx · 28/07/2021 20:39

Fuck that, the house would be on Rightmove tomorrow afternoon.

PumpkinPie2016 · 28/07/2021 20:40

How weird Confused

Very long shot and highly doubtful but could the taps be lose somehow so they are gradually turning on? I know it's not likely but I can't think of anything else (apart from something woo!).

Ilikechips · 28/07/2021 20:40

Burn the house down.

PumpkinPie2016 · 28/07/2021 20:41

Loose not lose 🤦‍♀️

DuckonaBike · 28/07/2021 20:41

Tricky. Should you consult a plumber, or a priest?

Maybe start with a plumber, if it happens again.

LadyCatStark · 28/07/2021 20:41

Erm I’d be moving out again pronto!

AppleStars · 28/07/2021 20:42

Love a ghost story... but it's probably just either too high water pressure or the threads on the tap are wearing out, more likely water pressure if it's happening on multiple taps - not sure what the solution is though, plumber?

Janaih · 28/07/2021 20:43

This has jogged my memory! I remember this happening! There is a plumbing reason and fix but I can't remember what it is, sorry Grin

Newbabynewhouse · 28/07/2021 20:45

Eek!! Well I was hoping there would be answers like "ooh that happened to me and it's just this..." lol!

The previous owner said it never happened to her...

But now I just remembered that last week one of our vertical blinds had split in half! We have no pets and don't know how it could have happened Shock freaked out now.....

Also to add... it's happened on 2 different taps

chellingham · 28/07/2021 20:54

Check the loft

Fernando072020 · 28/07/2021 20:55

Reading this before bed has given me the creeps haha

Realistically I'd get a plumber in :)

Newbabynewhouse · 28/07/2021 20:55

I just find it odd that the woman who lived here before did so for 25 years.. and she said nothing weird ever happened in 25 years... nothing happened with the taps for her either... she said her budgie died and that it could be him Wink

Theres got to be a logical reason.. like when you get a radiator on the run thats hot when the heatings turned off - it acts as an 'overspill' for when the hot water pressure builds up for safety reasons..
Get a plumber out and update us please..
Vertical blind? heating up with the recent heatwave and breaking along a join..
< clutching at straws for you here >

Butterfly44 · 28/07/2021 21:07

Is it happening at 3.05 each night? And the tap is off and then fully open? Just the hot one? Tonight take the plug out and see.
Get a plumber in to check the pipes.
Also maybe put up a camera to film?

Newbabynewhouse · 28/07/2021 21:19

@Butterfly44

It happened once at 3.05am... the other time it was like 5pm.. it's only happened twice so far.. we've been in here for 2 weeks now.. once it was the hot tap on the sink and last night at 3.05am it was the hot tap on bath... I will make sure all the plugs are out before bed from now on! And my partner was going to set up a camera but he said wait to see if it happens again first. The taps were definitely not on when I checked them before bed xx

@Butterfly44

And yes the taps were off but then on fully... they are the twisty taps

Newbabynewhouse · 28/07/2021 21:23

@Jellykat

The blinds are like sugar paper due to the heat from the sun, they are so brittle! But unsure how it snapped clean in the middle when we have no pets and no children over age of 5 months x

Reading your thread makes me tense up

Speakuptomakeyourselfheard · 28/07/2021 21:33

Could one of you, or your kids is you have any, be sleepwalking?
