Help! Taps turning on at 3am!

We moved into a new house 2 weeks ago and last night I woke up to hear running water.. I knew it was the bath and thought it was my partner bathing before work (he usually showers at 5am) I realised it was still dark so thought it can't be him as it's too early.. i checked time and it was 3.05am... i went in to find the hot tap on (fully, not dripping or dribbling) and the bath was almost full as I'd left the plug in from bathing baby at 7pm...

I remembered this morning that last week friends came round and I went to the loo to notice the hot tap was on in bathroom SINK but thought nothing of it as just thought they hadn't turned it off...

I contacted previous owner, they said nothing like that happened to them...

Can there be a logical explanation rather than paranormal???

Some malicious person neighbour has a key.

Change the locks ASAP.

Alternista · 29/07/2021 21:54

Oooh…

WaterIsBest · 29/07/2021 21:57

Dodgy tap that needs replacing making the pipes all vibrate

Happening to us at mo

Get a plumber

Newbabynewhouse · 29/07/2021 22:02

Well it can't really be a neighbour letting themselves in as we keep the keys in the locks and we checked the attick when we moved In and it's empty.. doesn't seem like there's anyone living up there lol.. for now I'm going to go with the water pressure thing Hmm because I'm shit scared.. so we will see what tonight brings... (we're all sleeping in one room again) Blush

Apply Occam’s Razor here. What’s more likely: you have a niche plumbing issue that coincided with your move, OR we live in a world that defies the laws of space, time and matter, in which the dead walk the Earth and, of all things, like to turn on your taps?

Newbabynewhouse · 29/07/2021 22:07

Trying to send a pic of taps but can't figure it out x

It’ll be a water hammer- it’s air building up in the pipes. We had this; bloody nightmare.

It’s usually down to worn out taps: get a plumber.

Newbabynewhouse · 29/07/2021 22:10

Fartniss Everbeans... I like your answer! I always think like that usually... I'm a sceptic and like what Brian Cox says "if there were any such thing as ghosts, the hadron colider would prove this and it hasn't been able to" .. but on the other hand... my sister went to see a psychic last week and they were able to tell her so many things that nobody would know unless there was 'something ' .. I think this hasn't helped my anxiety of the situation

I mean… I know you’re the one actually having to live in the house with the ghost OP… but I’m now scared and I don’t even know you!

Oh come on now. I'm not calling you a troll op - absolutely not!! - but I'm pretty sure you're pulling peoples leg here. After all, this could run and run and run couldn't it Grin

Newbabynewhouse · 29/07/2021 22:31

@PercyPigAndMe

Yeah of course I get you! My intention wasn't to keep it going for 2 days but since people are still replying I thought I'd keep it updated... to be fair nothing much has really happened since and I'm not making anything up although I can't really prove that.. but I'll happily end the thread, I do have a lot of time on my hands at the mo being on maternity leave lol but think I'm just staying on to make myself feel better if I'm honest like I have people to tell if something does happen!

I'm very interested (and scared)

Workinghardeveryday · 30/07/2021 08:33

We have lived here years snd years, so many different things. We can go a couple of years with nothing at all then lots seems to happen together.
The main one for me anyway was, one day I was in the kitchen on a school day, about 2pm. I heard a really loud crash and bang noise from the hall. I honestly thought someone was breaking in! Anyway I went to look (armed with a rolling pin), about 6 pictures that were hanging up the stairs in frames were all smashed at the bottom of the stairs. The weird thing is the pictures had been up for over a year and never fallen before, I could get it if one had fallen and then knocked the ones from underneath but the pictures that fell were dotted around from the wall, so that hadn’t happened. I heard one very big crash and bang. The house was quiet, I would have heard them crashing down the stairs as they fell but I didn’t, almost as if they were all just smashed at the same time together at the bottom of that makes sense! Rang dp very scared. Started rambling telling him the latest weird thing that happened, we could both hear breathing on the phone then it cut off. I rang him back petrified, happened again and cut off!!! I rang him about 8 times each time the breathing was louder and then cut off. I grabbed my keys and sat outside school in the car for 30 minutes until kids came out!!

rookiemere · 30/07/2021 08:38

I think I'd start with a plumber OP before waving dry sage about. Both issues are plumbing related so ......

SometimesIFeedTheSparrows · 30/07/2021 08:53

Did you change the locks when you moved in?
All of them?
You could fix a bolt over all the outside doors and the loft hatch- that would be cheaper than a plumber call out Grin

Newbabynewhouse · 30/07/2021 09:09

No I didn't change locks... nothing happened last night...

Do you think you can get a vibe if a house is haunted because me and my partner both have a really nice feeling about the house, didn't feel creepy in any way at all....
