Mooncup stuck please please help

Franklyfrost · 28/07/2021 19:12

Used a moon cup for the first time and can not get it out. I can feel the stem and part of the side of the cup (it’s sort of a bit sideways?) but it’s really high up- I can touch it with the tip of my middle finger. How am I supposed to grip it and pull it out. I’ve read a few articles and none of the tips- change position etc help. I can’t reach up there with forefinger and thumb. I was very late to show with my pregnancies and someone said it was because my cervix faced a certain way (backwards I think) could it be that? Please please help. I’m having visions of my partner, barbecue tongs and a plastic sheet. It’s a brand called hey girls in the large size. (I should have stuck to my rule and not trusted anyone who calls a woman a girl…). But please help, posting in aibu for traffic because I’ve been squatting in the bath for half an hour now and am having a mini panic but if you want a question how’s this: maybe tell customers clearly on the packet it might be impossible to get the mooncup out. AIBU

Just thought, I went for a run with it in- could I have jiggled into a weird position? I did check it was okay to run in online.

Oh this happened to me the first time I used one. You poor thing. It does get easier! I would try to fully put two fingers up, and squeeze the sides of the cup together to release the suction, then pull the whole thing, rather than pull from the tip. It might be messy though.

GrrRightBackAtYou · 28/07/2021 19:16

Can you get your finger up the side and squash it in to break the seal/suction?

Insert your index finger and thumb and pinch (squeeze) the base of your Mooncup to release the seal. Or, insert your index finger alongside the cup and push the side of the cup away from the vaginal wall. If you're able to, try hooking a finger over the rim of the Mooncup to help bring it down

Poor you,

I agree, try to break the suction, even if you can only use one finger to push one side of it. Once the vacuum is released it might drop slightly so that you can pinch the bottom.

Good luck!

ginnybag · 28/07/2021 19:17

Try standing with one foot up on the side of the bath.

If your, err, dry, have you got lube anywhere in the house? If you do, try getting some up there to help. If not, try plain water.

1st step is to try to unhook the stem and straighten it out. Then you need to pinch to break the suction so it'll slip down. Bear down while you reach up.

Measureformeasure · 28/07/2021 19:17

Ok, first try to calm down. Panicking makes it worse.

When this happened to me I ran a warm bath to relax as much as possible. Then you need to picture the shape of the cup and push the side inwards to break the sun toon. The thing won't move if you don't. I found pushing downwards also moved the cup towards the entrance. It does take some practice to get in and out. You'll get the hang of it with a few tries.

KatherineOfGaunt · 28/07/2021 19:18

You could try bearing down and see if that moves it a bit closer towards your fingers? Is it the actual mooncup brand? Because they have a little tail thing at the bottom you might be able to get hold of if you haven't cut it off.

Kimonolady · 28/07/2021 19:19

Ok, breathe. There’s no where for it to go, it can’t go past your cervix, there’s no way you can lose it. Similarly, it can’t be stuck forever.
I had this the very first time I used a cup - then you start to get stressed and tense and it’s even harder! Maybe take 10, have a break, and then try again.
What worked for me is: sitting on the toilet, very, very gently pull on the stem. You’re NOT trying to pull it out, just to work it down a bit. It shouldn’t hurt. Once it’s low enough that you can feel the sides of the cup (even if just a tiny bit), push in on the side with your finger. You’re trying to break the vacuum seal.
I hope that helps!

Theunamedcat · 28/07/2021 19:20

There is a girl on YouTube who did this she had some great tips

Kimonolady · 28/07/2021 19:20

Also try different positions. You mention you’re squatting in the bath right now - personally, I find it really hard to remove the cup like that. So try sitting on the loo, one leg up on the bath, etc. Different positions. See if that helps a bit.

CheeseMaiden · 28/07/2021 19:22

You poor thing! I feel your pain, this happened to me twice 😩 in the end DH had to help get the darn thing out. Decided that the bin was the best place for it

MintMatchmaker · 28/07/2021 19:23

Happened to me first time too. Try to stay calm, wet your fingers and bear down.

You just need to break the seal and then it will slide out easily.

GrandmasCat · 28/07/2021 19:23

Okay… this is not going to reassure you but I also have an inverted cervix and it was almost impossible to release the vacuum. My first cup was a large one, so after struggling for hours trying to release the vacuum I got a smaller one.

Big mistake, huge indeed. It got so stuck I was only able to release the vacuum by cutting the tip of it with scissors after hours trying to remove it.

And so ended my short affair with those things. Everyone will tell you you are doing something so basic wrong but if you are totally unable to dislodge it after hours of trying get yourself to A&E.

learieonthewildmoor · 28/07/2021 19:24

Sit down on the toilet, bear down and slide one finger up the side to break the suction and you’ll be able to get it out.
They slide down naturally when full and are super easy to get out then.

thisyearsuckssofar · 28/07/2021 19:25

This happened to me the first time. I find best access for me is when sitting on toilet. Put one finger way up, pass the stem. Then with that finger push into the back of cup to sort of break the seal. Then very quickly grab on with the other finger at front and gently pull out. You'll get the hang of it.

thecapitalsunited · 28/07/2021 19:25

I had this happen to me when I was fatter and couldn’t reach as far underneath. I had to get my DH to retrieve it and even he struggled due to how much I’d managed to wedge it in there.

Franklyfrost · 28/07/2021 19:28

Oh dear. Well, I pushed the side down and pulled it down a bit which worked. Literal blood bath, kids outside the bathroom door but the cup is lower. I still can’t reach the tail bit to pull it out no matter what position I’m in. It’s like it’s sideways with the tail pointing forwards and the opening of the cup pointing towards my back. The options are: ask my partner (who will be nice about it but still removing a mini bloody plunger is not so sexy) or going to a&e, wasting everyone’s time and having it in my medical records that I had ‘a foreign body removed from my vaginal cavity’. But first I’m going to do some yoga type twists and try and move the **er

There’s not fat blocking the way. Not sure if I should brush my hair and put some lip gloss on before asking dp to operate. What’s the etiquette?

OP posts:
Franklyfrost · 28/07/2021 19:30

Rhetorical question! Just being silly (panicky)

nestletoulouse · 28/07/2021 19:35

Squat and bear down (push like you're going for a poo) relax and try to pinch the bottom of the cup to break the suction and pull down.

thisyearsuckssofar · 28/07/2021 19:36

Poor you. Don't pull the side, push it inwards. Kill the suction. You can feel right up to rim of cup and push inwards with finger to break suction. I do this with index finger towards back. Hang in there, you can do this.

GrandmasCat · 28/07/2021 19:36

I was quite slim when mine got stuck so I doubt it has anything to do with your weight.

Franklyfrost · 28/07/2021 19:38

I did it! Thank you for all your ideas- I tried them all which kept me trying. I never managed to grab the stem but pinched the cup and dragged it out. The very bad news is that I got my period on holiday, only had one pad with me, went to the supermarket to buy more and saw the stupid mooncup abs thought I’ve never gotten round to trying one let’s give it a go. So no pads, pants or tampons in the house but I really really don’t want to put the mooncup back in. I’ll have to improvise. Also, what am I supposed to do with this piece of silicone now? Little hat for a dildo?

Ooosh I've been here! Okay first I would take a break, the last thing you need is to be so get up while trying it.

When you come back to it, try sitting almost like Gollum (weird I know) but super crouched over and take it slow!

Keep bearing down and it should get closer to the entrance. Breathe deep and get your fingers in as high as you can and pinch it together as much as you can and then gently manoeuvre it out.

It might take a while but it will come out. I've been here and you can do it! Take your time but be firm.

SugarBlossomFairy · 28/07/2021 19:39

Oh haha you've done it!! Congrats!!
