I mean honestly, it's just abysmal

I know it's not funny that 2 million pounds could have been put up much better use, but the sheer crapness of it is making me laugh

Well the artists impression looks a lot more impressive than what is there, so it may be that the end product is a lot better when the vegetation has a chance to establish.

Worth the money? Possibly not though I think lots of cities would benefit from more green space.

elp30 · 27/07/2021 23:58

I was expecting it to look like something along the lines of the one in Houston's Centennial Garden, where I live.

I had no idea the one in London looks so crap AND you have to pay to go on it. Totally not worth it.

elp30 · 27/07/2021 23:59

Sorry, forgot the link to the one in Houston:

It's right next to an actual park! How much more green space is needed in Hyde Park?
QueenBee52 · 28/07/2021 00:02

what is that exactly ? 🤔😂

SpindleWhorl · 28/07/2021 00:05

I don't think it's quite cooked yet.

littlefireseverywhere · 28/07/2021 00:06

I still think it’s a really odd thing to put on the roundabout near Marble Arch, especially as Hyde park next door- is do wonderful! We were there last week & it looked appalling.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 28/07/2021 00:07

YANBU I love these things! Like every year a terrible “Winter Wonderland” will be in the tabloids, people expect Lapland and get some sheds in a muddy field with a drunken, chain smoking Santa and disappointed parents throwing punches at Elves.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/07/2021 00:20

Wtf? Have they dug a big hole in London (maybe for a tube line or underground car park), dumped the waste in a heap and randomly bunged some trees on it? Confused

Hopefully if it snows this year they can do all this and more on the festive slopes of the Marble Arch Mound having stormed the barriers à la Wembley.
Mumdiva99 · 28/07/2021 00:26

I love 'quirky' installations. I briefly - for about 10 seconds - considered booking tickets for me and the kids to go up it. I didn't want to miss out when the rush came.... then I gave my head a MN wobble and laughed at myself. We will walk over to the Serpentine Pavillion instead.

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 28/07/2021 00:30

I laughed out loud at someone suggesting they could produce similar with seven minutes in Minecraft.

Itsmeagainandagain · 28/07/2021 00:31

Ever wonder we're exactly your council tax goes? Not on important things like extra policing, the NHS, teachers, school books, upgrading facilities for children-nope none of those things...
The money you paid went straight to that monstrosity. Makes us proud to be British heh

ErrolTheDragon · 28/07/2021 00:34

Goodness. I thought it was the result of some sort of flytipping, inadequately turfed over - a sort of urban slag heap effect.

ChocolateCakeYum · 28/07/2021 00:39

I’m enjoying the memes for it.

It's certainly shite and an absurd waste of money.

Maybe it's there just to hide the Banksy.

MegaCityOne · 28/07/2021 01:44

I want to know what I have to do to get £2 million off a council for a crap sculpture or something like this. I’m crap at art so perfect for the brief.

Fizbosshoes · 28/07/2021 02:05

I just googled it - they're offering refunds. From the pictures I can understand why! It seems a massive waste of money....and it's only temporary, so how long to wait til it looks more landscaped or like the plans v how long its "dismantled"? Confused

Snoozer11 · 28/07/2021 02:55

Even the expectation looks shit.

BarbaraofSeville · 28/07/2021 02:57

Grin at urban slag heap. It does look exactly like the dumped waste from another hole that's been left to go a bit weedy.

What's it for? Is it hiding something unsightly?

avamiah · 28/07/2021 03:00

It’s just ridiculous and looks shocking .
There really are No words to be honest .
I live in London and saw it earlier as you can’t miss it if you are at Marble Arch underground station.

Whoever is responsible for it has a lot to answer for.
It’s Atrocious.

BarbaraofSeville · 28/07/2021 03:04

Google has it listed as a 'tourist attraction'. It does look quite nice in the aerial photo.

I can now see that you can walk to the top, but it costs SIX POUNDS to do so Shock

Did London feel a bit inadequate compared to Edinburgh's Arthur's Seat and think 'we could have one of those' shame we don't have a convenient extinct volcano in walking distance from the tube, we'll have to make our own?

BarbaraofSeville · 28/07/2021 03:08

Oh, it's not a solid pile of dirt, it's a load of scaffolding with some turf laid over it.

It's not so long since I read about the building boom causing a shortage of scaffolding. I think we've found the real culprit.

Oblomov21 · 28/07/2021 03:08

2 million? FFS.
