To be concerned about my ongoing eye twitch?

It’s a really strong eye spasm, in my right eye. Happened every few seconds, it’s really uncomfortable and feels like my eyelid is being pulled or tugged at.
I had it for about 2 weeks a few weeks ago, then it went away, now it’s back.
The same eye feels sore and a bit itchy too.

I get it when I'm stressed, it can go on for ages. But if it is bothering you as much as you say, with the soreness as well, I'd probably try to get a GP appointment.

Bagelsandbrie · 23/07/2021 10:18

Are you taking steroids either for asthma (inhaled or otherwise) or anything else? Sometimes these can cause it. It’s usually nothing to worry about and is usually related to stress / tiredness but speak to your Gp if you’re concerned.

I get it when I get stressed /under a lot of pressure too. Ring your GP if you are worried though

Mine doesn't happen if I take zinc and magnesium

ContessaVerde · 23/07/2021 10:25

Multivitamin

I had an eye twitch a few years ago and it turned out I was iron deficient. Might be a good idea to get your blood work done.

Blue565 · 23/07/2021 10:26

I don't know if it's a load of rubbish, but I've heard a banana can help? (Potassium?) I used to get much milder eye twitches that seemed to go away when I ate one (but it could be sheer coincidence)

I have an ongoing twitchy eye , I opened this thread to read and suddenly my twitch stopped ! Daft I know as it's bound to start again , but thank you for advising vitamins I'm going to get some

Darkchocolateandcoffee · 23/07/2021 10:55

Really normal to last weeks on and off when you're tired.

I had the same thing and went to the doctor eventually and she reassured me it would eventually go away. And it did.

BetterthanIthink · 23/07/2021 11:00

My eye sometimes twitches like that when my thyroid meds are off and my dose needs readjusting.

Exactly the same here. Was absolutely shattered, stressed and pregnant, eye wouldn't stop twitching for months!!

That's interesting , it it when you are under medicated or over ?
m030978 · 23/07/2021 11:18

I had it for a whole summer a few years ago, thought it was hayfever as it started in the grass pollen season in May. By October I'd decided it wasn't hayfever....
The only thing that stopped it was taking an extra magnesium supplement on top of my usual multivits and minerals.

MrsTulipTattsyrup · 23/07/2021 11:22

Are you making it sore by fiddling with it when it twitches? I know I’m guilty of that! But I’d pop to the pharmacy about the soreness - they can give you either soothing drops or ones with antibiotic if they think it’s infected.

Hollyhocksarenotmessy · 23/07/2021 11:31

Stress does this to me too. It goes away when I sort out whatever causing me stress.

Guavaf1sh · 23/07/2021 13:34

It’s called myokymia

Potpourri23 · 23/07/2021 23:13

I get this if I'm not getting enough sleep.

roseum · 23/07/2021 23:17

Definitely see a doctor if it continues. My mum has this, has had for several years. Finally got to see an eye specialist at the hospital who now gives her Botox injections every few months to control it.

MushMonster · 23/07/2021 23:20

Vitamins can be the cause, including B12.

dryasaboner · 07/08/2021 12:28

I am suffering at the moment it's driving me mad

BrilloPaddy · 07/08/2021 12:30

I get this all the time, drives me mad. Usually when I'm tired.

Rainbowx · 07/08/2021 22:22

I get this but it's part of my TIA I had last year now left with chronic migraines .

stealingbeauty · 07/08/2021 22:25

I’ve had this since I was about 10 or 11. I get it when I’m tired and it can go on for months.

MarleneDietrichsSmile · 07/08/2021 22:26

It’s a tiredness thing

Happens to lots of people
