"Pingdemic"

MostlyMaple · 21/07/2021 12:38

Forgive me if I am wrong, or being naive or whatever.

But surely if everyone deleted the NHS tracking app, the "pingdemic" we're currently in would subside?

Ready to hear I'm being unreasonable but it's just a thought if we want life to resume back to normal as quick as possible.

It will destroy small businesses.

You may have discovered its purpose.

BlatantlyNameChanged · 21/07/2021 15:58

Or does everyone pinged apparently live in a terraced house with paper thin walls and the ping was actually from the neighbour? Or maybe you walked past someone in the street for "2 seconds".... These seem to be some of the popular but deluded explanations some people like to come up with.

I got pinged by the app a couple of weeks ago saying I needed to self-isolate as someone I'd been with 1m of for longer than 15mins with had tested positive. It said I needed to isolate for he remaining eight days of a ten day isolation, meaning this exposure was in the previous 2-3 days. Great. Except at that point I was on day four of overhauling the garden so hadn't actually seen anyone other than DH, the DC, and my mum none of whom had covid or had been tested for covid. We went out twice in those four days, once for a walk down to the nature reserve (outdoors, saw two people the entire time but they were both way off in the distance and not at all near us) and once for a walk at the beach (same thing). Not sure where the ping originated from or why but I didn't isolate and just tested myself daily instead.

Not you again

It’s a fucking pandemic, not a pingdemic.

Do you value having access to healthcare when you need it?
Would you like doctors and nurses to be in a position to treat you and your family when you need it?
Then put your bloody mask on.

MostlyMaple · 21/07/2021 17:37

@JordanPickford I see you're delightful as ever.

Should I put my mask on now?
JordanPickford · 21/07/2021 17:52

You don’t know me!
Forgive me if I’m sick of your anti-mask , anti-isolation spam.

YouDoIDo · 21/07/2021 18:37

I think they probably needed to put a little more thought into it. I think people are being pinged that do not need to self isolate. I am currently at home self isolating as I have had a positive pcr come back so uploaded my results. Today my neighbour who has who has been at home for the last 3 days got pinged (can only guess she was in the garden with her phone when I was😬) and my mum was also pinged a few hours after dropping shopping to my door. Test and trace also called her to say she had been with someone that was supposed to be self isolating (didn’t call me though). Not sure what they could do maybe something where you can see the location you where or something like that.

Ratalie · 21/07/2021 18:46

Wow. Not in the UK but this thread prompted me to look at the covid numbers. Can't quite believe it's been allowed to get so bad again. Of course there's lots of 'pings'; the UK is absolutely riddled with Covid.

Just because I don't agree with you doesn't mean I'm spamming Confused

Am I not allowed to post on here and give my opinion? You're pretty quick to be rude to me so it's one rule for you is it?

Takingabreakagain · 21/07/2021 18:52

It's causing chaos for businesses. Overheard checkout supervisor in supermarket yesterday explaining that they had 8 members of staff off because they had been pinged. None are sick just near someone else who had a positive test (so they are not necessarily even sick). We don't do this for any other respiratory and/or contagious virus and it's no longer necessary for this one. If you are sick of course stay home but healthy people should not be forced to stay in their houses.

JassyRadlett · 21/07/2021 18:52

Would all those pesky positive test results and rising positivity rate also disappear?

Or would we just be enabling more paths for onward infection by reducing isolation of close contacts?

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 21/07/2021 18:52

The increased number of people who are contacts and should SI is of course high, because the number of cases is very high, and still rising substantially (though it seems to have slowed a bit in the last couple of days)

Ratalie · 21/07/2021 18:56

Just to add (and I'll confess I havent performed a per capita calculation for each and every country), it looks like the UK is the worst performing country in the world by some distance. What an inept government.

@YouDoIDo

bollocks. Enough with the conspiracy theories and utter twaddle. Nothing tracks you. No one knows where you've been unless someone you know has shopped you.

Ratalie · 21/07/2021 19:02

Actually, to give the UK some minimal credit, Spain is doing about equally as bad. Don't think any others come close though.

Carrits · 21/07/2021 19:10

I have noticed that people are loving to app to get paid time off work...plenty of shirkers about, hardly pulling together...

Well the shirker in chief is in charge, is he back in his fridge?
Uramaki · 21/07/2021 19:49

But if you turn it off you won't know if you've been exposed

MostlyMaple · 21/07/2021 20:06

What happens if you get pinged but don't isolate?

Boris will personally come round and tell you, you are very naughty.

It’s not about disagreeing, it’s about posting the same things repeatedly. That’s spam isn’t it?

Anyhow, conveniently the questions in my post weren’t answered.

You don't seem to have answered my question as to whether I should wear a mask now. Should I?
BlatantlyNameChanged · 21/07/2021 20:31

More likely to come round and ask for tips on how to get away with it.

Spyro1234 · 21/07/2021 20:33

I never had that app 🤷

HowLepsur · 21/07/2021 21:48

@sashagabadon

I think people like the pingdemic. Week off work in lovely sunshine, yes please!
Grin I hadn't though too this. Must get the app now.
