To report neighbour for this?

Skittles12345 · 19/07/2021 21:54

AIBU to report my neighbour for seemingly setting up a taxi firm from their house? Is this even allowed?

Depends what they're doing really. Using it as a base station (e.g., running the phone/booking system, parking their own taxi up) is allowed AFAIK but if drivers are using it as a place to park up and rest between jobs then that's not and should have separate premises.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 19/07/2021 22:26

Why are people so obsessed with reporting. Are they harming you.

Will it enhance your life to report to them. Do you have nothing better to do than worry about what your neighbors are up to. People do what they have to its called survival.

BakedTattie · 19/07/2021 22:27

Ofcourse you should, that is absolutely outrageous!

….Report to whom though?

iwilldoitsoon · 19/07/2021 22:27

What are they doing and who are you thinking of reporting them to?

You've forgotten to tell us how it affects you?
OverByYer · 19/07/2021 22:30

And this affects you how?

saraclara · 19/07/2021 22:43

My neighbour used to have a taxi business. It affected me not one jot. I don't know what your problem is.

Geamhradh · 19/07/2021 22:46

My Uncle legally runs his taxi business from home.

Crankley · 19/07/2021 22:47

How dies this impact on your life? Who are you going to report to? The Stasi?

Crankley · 19/07/2021 22:48

AfterSchoolWorry · 19/07/2021 22:49

It's hardly a skunk farm OP!

Mind your business!

Why are people so obsessed with reporting.

Covid is now the gift that's stopped giving for this type of thing, so they need to find something else.

Ok. I didn't realise. Not any need for the 'Hmm' - have you never missed something or not quite picked something up as intended?

Estara · 19/07/2021 22:53

My old neighbour started an airport taxi business from his home. He would start up the noisy diesel engine at all hours of the night, and sit in it for 10 to 20 minutes before setting off. It was annoying and disturbing. You could talk to the taxi licensing team at your local council as if he is running a business from home he needs permission.

Drovememad · 20/07/2021 06:50

Yeah report away too .........

You sound like a batshit neighbour that I've got!

Skittles12345 · 20/07/2021 10:01

I don't think it's fair to call me bat shit!

I've never reported anyone for anything before. It's a council house estate and looks like a taxi rank has just set up shop next door.

Okay but… so?

user1473878824 · 20/07/2021 10:08

I’m a stickler for rules but I really don’t see how this impacts your life at all.

Can you give more detail? When you say a taxi rank do you mean lots of taxis lined up as you would see in town at a rank? This seems bizarre for your neighbourhood as there wouldn't be the passing trade to justify a taxi tank.

Brainwave89 · 20/07/2021 10:12

I am not sure quite what you would report if I am honest. In the current climate there are lots of people working from home. My next door neighbour is a GP and regularly gets called out at all times of the day and night. Yes you can hear his car starting up on a warm night with the windows opening, but no one could reasonably ask him not to pursue his trade. Can you identify a specific problem you could discuss with them, for example is it parking? noise? Having a couple of taxis parked is not really a problem I do not think.

Ireolu · 20/07/2021 10:18

Yeah it seems people really like to report. Having been on the receiving end of a report I can honestly say that it did NOTHING for neighbour relations. My neighbor then denied doing the reporting. I have never seen the police back away from a situation as quickly as they did when they came because there was nothing wrong being down. I personally would stay out of it if it does not affect you.

Skittles12345 · 20/07/2021 10:19

No not lots lined up on the street, but they've converted the front garden to a drive when there is no dropped curb to allow for this so it should be a drive way and the way they park impacts on people using the path by them not fitting on the drive properly.

Take a photo and send it to your councils highway department. I’m sure they’d be quite keen to pursue if it’s not a legal drop kerb and it’s obstructing the pavement for pedestrians.

Also there’s no law against running a business from home, but again, the council tax department will be very interested if they’ve not declared the fact they are running a business from residential premises as they won’t be paying the appropriate business rates.
