AIBU to think that style of tuneless music you get today is terrible?!

Someone is listening to it on our street right now. I don’t know how to describe it but it sounds like the singer’s voice is distorted with some special effect or something? I hear loads of music like this blasting from people’s cars and it all sounds utterly tuneless and exactly the same. There’s no discernable melody and it’s frankly just awful!

AIBU or am I just getting old? Grin

Everything sounds like there trying to be Rihanna. I just hear her lovely Barbados (I think) accent on everything and sounds so try hard

YANBU

I can't understand why Billie Eilish is so successful. Tuneless, mumbling moany songs. DD is a big fan unfortunately

MushMonster · 19/07/2021 21:31

I apm jolly fed up of this.
I changed the radio station at work today before my brain fully turned to mash!
I cannot stand it anymore!

LivingDeadGirlUK · 19/07/2021 21:33

Autotune, blame autotune...

RandomDent · 19/07/2021 21:35

Autotune hurts my ears. I don’t care if it makes me old, I hate it.

Taliskerskye · 19/07/2021 21:36

The only thing that makes you old is complaining about the music of today’s youth.
Congrats!

BobbinThreadbare123 · 19/07/2021 21:39

I never really liked the music of my own youth, let alone the present stuff! Autotune and the pop video/YouTube channels have allowed the truly talentless to take over. It's got that 'uncanny valley' thing life-like robots have. Your brain knows it's wrong!

Wolfiefan · 19/07/2021 21:41

Yep. Definitely old. Grin

She is definitely one of the worst singers around IMHO. She just looks like she's permanently drugged up with those droopy eyes, bright hair and hideously long nails. She's so young, yet never smiles 😏
RolloTomassi · 19/07/2021 21:42

YANBU. I feel like it's the same old shit for the last 10 years. I flick the radio on and it's always "I got a bed but I'd rather be in yours tonight..." don't know any of the other lyrics. Hate to sound like my dad but modern music is crap. I miss the Noughties Grin

Essentialironingwater · 19/07/2021 21:45

I think most generations say that about the next one's music. Am sure many in your parents generation said the same about the music of your yoof! So, yes, I'm sorry to inform you that makes you 'old'. I'm old too. DD was informing me of a tik tok trend about a song called WAP (wet as pussy) and I realised I'm well and truly out of the loop.

PicsInRed · 19/07/2021 21:45

Gen X, is that you there, railing piteously at the dying of the light? Grin

Essentialironingwater · 19/07/2021 21:45

*ass, not az

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 19/07/2021 21:47

@Meredusoleil YY, dare I say it she also looks like she smells a bit musty and would benefit from a really long hot bath 🙊

annacondom · 19/07/2021 21:47

Yep. I miss the 70s Grin

Icantbelieveitsnotnutter · 19/07/2021 21:50

It's bland autotuned hogwash. The charts are dominated by greedy plutocrats who churn out recycled muzak. Parents used to find their kids music edgy, now it's the other way round!

megletthesecond · 19/07/2021 21:51

You are getting old my dear. Go and listen to radio 2.

Henrysmycat · 19/07/2021 22:02

There are some decent stuff around done by youngsters like “Girl in Red” but the vast majority are autotune to death and they are shite.
It’s like Stock, Aitken, Waterman but worst.

FourEyesGood · 19/07/2021 22:13

Why should she smile? She’s got judgemental comments like yours following her wherever she goes.

FourEyesGood · 19/07/2021 22:15

Oops. I was trying to quote this:
“She's so young, yet never smiles” about Billie Eilish.

Macncheeseballs · 19/07/2021 22:20

Every generation complains about the music of the one below, its a massive generalisation because you've heard a few songs you don't like

ViciousJackdaw · 19/07/2021 23:36

YANBU but this is exactly what our parents said about the pop music we listened to as children. Their parents will have complained about their music. What's more, Great Great Grandma probably thought the Jazz Age to be terribly unsuitable.

bluewanda · 20/07/2021 11:53

YANBU but this is exactly what our parents said about the pop music we listened to as children.

I agree, but at least the music of the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s had a tune. Today’s music (the style that I’m talking about at least) has no melody, it all sounds exactly the same!

OP posts:
Penistoe · 20/07/2021 12:07

Literally every generation says this about the previous generations music. There is plenty of good music if you look, it’s just what is popular is never going to cater to everyone’s taste.

wordsareveryunnecessary · 20/07/2021 12:07

I think much of it is very sexualised and some is aggressive
