AIBU to think that style of tuneless music you get today is terrible?!

Someone is listening to it on our street right now. I don’t know how to describe it but it sounds like the singer’s voice is distorted with some special effect or something? I hear loads of music like this blasting from people’s cars and it all sounds utterly tuneless and exactly the same. There’s no discernable melody and it’s frankly just awful!

AIBU or am I just getting old? Grin

And I actually like one of Billie Eilish’s songs so I’m not a total dinosaur! Grin

my dh complains when i listen to heavy metal and nirvana, but he did know i was a HUGE fan when we first met 20 years ago!

I agree, bring back 90s indie! I’ve discovered 60s psychedelic rock recently and it’s my vibe, especially in this weather.

Also, what ever happened to a good guitar solo?

I heard Nirvana out of a car window recently and was impressed! You never hear good music coming out of cars these days, just boom boom rubbish (I know, I know ☺️)

There has always been masses of terrible pop, but we don't remember it so much - it's the good material that we recollect. Been watching the old ToTPs recently, I think it's 1991 at the moment, and there is a lot of proper rubbish that I have no recollection of. If you run your eye down the charts from the 60s, there is so much formulaic, instantly forgettable pop. It wasn't all Dusty and the Beatles.

But I agree that loads of what I hear now is awful! Really struck by how few bands or groups there are now - looked at the top 40 this week, I think there were half a dozen, and the rest all soloists and collaborations between two artists. I miss bands!

The house that backs onto our garden was playing this kind of crap all evening yesterday. I actually said to my DP every track sounds the same! I'm 33. It appears I have moved over to the 'old' side

I really don't think it' an age thing. Any new bands that manage to get into the charts now are a blessed relief. The moany vocal heavy drones that bore us to tears on commercial radio (and even radio 2) are dom8nating the whole scene. Us older people should find younger folk's music shocking and innovative, not bland and safe.

Honestly, just full of good music.

Also, DH and I call that sort of whiney nothing music that is everywhere ‘Autotune R&B’ 🤣

She's so young, yet never smiles

FFS. You know why she wears baggy clothes, right?

It's all hicuppy-breathy-girlish singing or weird avmccents/voices who over exaggerate them.

But worse are the over secualised aggressively sexual videos. Can't escape them in the gym but they make me really agressive
