why oh why do people tell december bithdays that instead of buying a you a birthday gift and xmas gift they will just give you one for both. they are never any better. it really pisses me off. i also dont want my birthday gift wrapped in xmas paper.
next year i am going to do it back. i am going to tell them in july that they will have to wait til xmas for there birthday gift

mine is the 21st and I am quite happy to suggest a decent big present rather than get two I don't want.

I love having my presents under the tree and still do it as an adult. Ds wanted the tree back up for his birthday last year.

I banned mince pies at my 18th (but only because I don't like them). I am a teacher so it would be rare to have to work on my birthday.

My MIL gives everyone presents in recycled paper and so everyone is liable to get Xmas paper on their birthday gifts from her. I don't take it personally.

My DS's birthday is jan 5th, he's going to be 3 this year, and lluckily he doesn't really get the whole present thing yet. we've got him lots of little xmas and separate birthday presents though.

He hasn't had proper birthdays yet really - last yr i was in hospital havnig had my appendix out, and on his first birthdya all i did was cry because all i could think was a year earlier when he was born, my dad was still alive

You should see the amount of cards we have to accommodate here around Christmas! 2 boys birthdays the week before, then Christams cards and then DH cards on the 1st! I always look at them and think what a waste of money (tho I do like cards) I mean the amount that each card costs now, we must get a good £50 - £75 worth of cards around then!! It's madness!

dd666 · 27/11/2007 13:17

my sisters birthday is 20dec
last year i got her a card that said happy birthday/christmas and she got all her pressies christmas day cause she didnt arrive till late christmas eve!
i blame my parents myself
dd is summer baby lol!

The only bad thing really is getting all my cards on the 4th of January because people didn't allow for christmas post when sending.

noyummymummy · 28/11/2007 10:25

Mine is on the 20th and my friends and family actually complain to me about it.... 'ughh, it's your birthday coming up, so close to christmas...what do you want?' The other problem is that my brother's b-day is the 7th and my dad's is the 13th - when I was a kid, my mum wanted to combine all three into one celebration. I have never let her live that one down...

bogie · 28/11/2007 10:27

i hate this my birthday is 18th of dec and ds is new years day so we both get it

TillyScoutsmum · 28/11/2007 10:46

Yup - mine is 11th and a few people have bought "joint" pressies in the past (its not even that close FFS ?!)

Also hate the fact that no one ever had any money to go out because of all the Xmas parties etc. This was of course in the days when I used to go out ...

Squirdle · 28/11/2007 10:56

TSmum, the 11th is nowhere near Christmas!! (well sort of) My sister is the 12th and I always make sure she has a parcel sent for her birthday. In fact it's funny but she is the one I DO remember as it's is near DS's birthdays and Christmas and while I can get her pressie with Christmas pressies it is always a 'birthday' gift!

As I said I have made it quite clear we don't do joint presents here. It might have seemed rude to say it, but they are seperate days!!

Loshad · 28/11/2007 11:00

mine's the 20th and my dsis is 29th dec, never had a problem with it. Most people gave us b'day pressies, in b'day paper, and the joint presents I've had have always been really worth having (really only from paretns and later my DH)
My only gripe is going out for dinner, really hard to find babysitters, restaurants all full to bursting - so mostly DH cooks me supper instead

oilandwater · 28/11/2007 22:30

well my mil just informed us that the family will "really be too tired" to come to my dd's birthday party on dec. 27 (to which only family are invited) - and suggested that instead we celebrate her first birthday in the summer. Sorry grandma, but I'm not moving my dd's birthday because you can't be bothered to show up for a piece of cake two days after christmas.

essanel · 28/11/2007 22:38

my neices b'day is two weeks before crimbo and nephews b'day is 2 wks after (cheers bro!) +although its difficult i have always made point to buy different pressies(even when i lived abroad +due to snail mail all 4 arrived on same day!) i even buy cards etc in summer (well before october!) oilandwater OMG! would've thought 1st b'day would've been excuse to extend crimbo celebrations!

mummylin2495 · 28/11/2007 22:59

my own children were both born in dec and now they both have children of their own also born in dec,but they have all always had birthday and xmas pressies.
