Who should pay the parking fine?

Afternoon all!

Abit of a lighthearted AIBU for you all to settle a debate between me and my mum 😅 (we're not arguing - it's just a lighthearted debate - we're both grown women)

I asked my mum to pick a parcel up for me that had been delivered to a collection point as I was unable to go & it was on my mums way home from work...she went to get the parcel but parked somewhere she shouldn't have and has now got a parking fine.

Who should pay? Me because I asked her to get the parcel, or her because she chose to park irresponsibly? 🙊

Thanks!

Her because she’s the driver

LadyCatStark · 19/07/2021 16:10

She should pay because she chose to park irresponsibly.

SarahBellam · 19/07/2021 16:11

Your mum. If she couldn’t find a parking space she should have just messaged you when she got home and told you she couldn’t pick it up because there was nowhere to park.

FluffyPJs · 19/07/2021 16:11

Some people will say your mum should pay her parking fine but if it was my mum I would pay the fine for her and thank her for getting the parcel for me. Then I would remind her of her bad parking whenever I wanted a laugh!

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 19/07/2021 16:11

Your mum. You didn’t make her park illegally.

GoodbyePorpoiseSpit · 19/07/2021 16:11

your mum

WeHaveComeSoFar · 19/07/2021 16:12

My DM had an identical situation with a friend who picked her up from the airport and got fined for parking somewhere she wasn't meant to. The friend paid, despite my DM offering to.

I think the friend was right to pay. My DM didn't force her to park there. So I think your DM should pay.

Essentialironingwater · 19/07/2021 16:12

Her, obviously. Nice of her to do you a favour but I'm sure you didn't insist she illegally parked?

newmummylucy · 19/07/2021 16:12

@FluffyPJs 🙊🙊😅

She should pay as she was driving. It was nice that she was doing you a favour but why did she park where she’s get a fine?!

RunningFromInsanity · 19/07/2021 16:17

We would probably split it 50/50

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 19/07/2021 16:18

Her. She chose to park there. That is entirely her fault.

newmummylucy · 19/07/2021 16:18

@RunningFromInsanity good idea! 😅

If it was me and my mum I think I’d offer to pay.

YelloYelloYello · 19/07/2021 16:19

Just to add: I don’t think she’d accept. But if still offer.

Derbee · 19/07/2021 16:35

Completely your mum’s responsibility. She’s the driver, she chose where to park.

AnotherDayAnotherCake · 19/07/2021 16:37

She should pay.

OlympicProcrastinator · 19/07/2021 16:37

It’s your mums responsibility but if my mum got it doing me a favour I’d pay 50/50. Otherwise she might not do me any more favours Grin

Halfsies

purpledagger · 19/07/2021 16:38

Technically, your mum should

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 19/07/2021 16:54

Your Mum should pay the parking fine, and if she drove recklessly fast and was stopped by the police she should also pay this fine and have the penalty points. If she was drunk into the bargain, she should suffer the consequences of that too.
However if she was mugged and the parcel was stolen from her I think you should bear the loss not her. I hope that clears it all up!

warmandtoasty2day · 19/07/2021 16:56

if it wasn't possible to park legally she shouldn't have parked and could have let you know the situation. She should pay.

DragonflyFairy · 19/07/2021 16:56

I'd offer to pay it as it's my mum and she was doing me a favour - I couldn't be petty with my mum! But she would refuse to let me pay for the same reason!

pinkcircustop · 19/07/2021 16:57

Her because she’s the driver and chose to park like a prat.

MurielSpriggs · 19/07/2021 17:09

Definitely her!

If you'd been a passenger and told it was ok to park there then there might be room for argument, but even then ultimately the driver is in charge and makes the decisions and lives with the consequences.
