To say that motorbikes sound bloody awful

I have the windows open as it's so hot and every so often I'll hear one zooming past and my god, the noise, they make the rest of the traffic sound like white noise in comparison.

Am I overly sensitive to noise or do you agree? Confused

Some are for sure. I'm in a similar situation and I'd quite like all the cars and bikes with the souped up exhausts to give it a rest now it's 11pm. And the buses which come crashing along too!

Lockheart · 17/07/2021 23:01

They're loud enough to the extent I can't hear the film I'm watching, let's put it that way!

It’s the hairdryers on wheels that I hate.

Tacket · 17/07/2021 23:04

I'm glad I'm not alone! I visibly cringe when one goes by. My little DD age 2 who does happen to be sensitive to noise jumps out of her skin and asks what happened Sad

Xiaoxiong · 17/07/2021 23:05

I hate them. They are so incredibly noisy and anti-social. The only ones I like are the electric ones!!!

Mosaic123 · 17/07/2021 23:05

I'm with electric cars (and motorbikes?) in the future rust noise will be reduced significantly.

Come to think of it, I've not heard of an electric motorbike. Do such things exist?

Tacket · 17/07/2021 23:06

Also some people are modifying car engines to make the loudest noise possible. I was waiting for the bus late at night in london and one such car made everyone jump....in order to cut through noise in london, wtf have they done!

Ah yes I know the type of cars you mean. Attention seeking wankers. Who cares to know that they're approaching?!

OP posts:
gogohm · 17/07/2021 23:07

They sound great, well legal ones, I don't like the ones which have the silencers removed or very old ones. My bugbear is the sports cars revving outside waiting for the bus to go past, sitting on the balcony overlooking the road this evening I've been surprised at just the sheer quantity of super cars out and about here

Comedycook · 17/07/2021 23:07

I can't stand the noise either...It seems so intrusive and anti social

Opening poster, are you my dog? If so, Daisy, when did you learn to type? And put that bloody tablet away! You are only one year old!

If you are not Daisy, she agrees with you. She does not bark at lorries, cars, ambulances. But motorbikes? She goes crazy.

Tacket · 17/07/2021 23:09

I live in London so I'm destined to accept it until such a time I relocate but it's nice to have my moaning backed up with equally as fed-up-of-noisy-traffic MNers Grin

Not Daisy but I feel that we must be somehow distantly related, please give her my love and lots of fusses 🐶

God yeh
We have one bike that goes up and down the same loop day in day out several times.

Like get a fucking life. If you want to go on your bike go up the coast road ffs. But no. It's all about being seen. Except everyone who sees him thinks he's a twat!

TheFoundations · 17/07/2021 23:12

Some of them sound horrible. Lorries ticking over are horrible too. I used to work in an office opposite some traffic lights. A colleague and I used to get waves of nausea at the same time as each other, but didn't know why. Another colleague with better hearing than either of us spotted that the trigger was whenever a big lorry had pulled up at the lights. Low rumble we couldn't hear, but strongly affected us.

blueberryporridge · 17/07/2021 23:12

We regularly have groups of bikers staying at tourist accommodation on our road. The revving up and selfie taking before they set off in the morning is a complete pain. Not to mention the fumes they are belching out.

Tacket · 17/07/2021 23:15

@IRanSoFarAway1

OP

Yes, the lad was delighted at the reaction he caused and went round the roundabout a few times

It wasn't a pricey supercar, looked like it was glued together from the 80s tbh.

My dad was a doctor and saw a few of those drivers die in hospital. I can't bring myself to care...if it shuts them up....just hope they crash into a barrier rather than people.

I can picture exactly what you mean!

Some of the loudest heaps of junk I've seen showboating their modified exhausts resemble the ford fiestas circa 80s-90s.

A friend of my brother has bought a pile of junk second hand and is taking great pride in the wasted money minor modifications he's putting into it.

Just drive down the street normally for goodness sake.

OldTinHat · 17/07/2021 23:16

One of my neighbours has an incredibly loud bike. Instead of hopping on it and going, he leaves the damn engine revving for a minute or so. The windows rattle! And this is always 6am, 11pm, you get the idea.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/07/2021 23:16

YANBU. I can't believe they need to make that ridiculous row to move one person. Bloody selfish, disturbing other people's peace - especially in the evening, or in the countryside on what should be a relaxing peaceful Sunday.

Come to think of it, I've not heard of an electric motorbike. Do such things exist?

Apparently there are some, don't know if there are many on the roads yet.

Like the ones who drive around with their windows down and the bass turned up to 11, as if they think anyone at all might be impressed by the either the volume of their stereo or the invariably horrendous "music" they insist upon playing on it.

cariadlet · 17/07/2021 23:22

I think 2 stroke motorbikes are horrendous but decent bikes don't sound as bad to me.

When I was at college, the lecturer would be in the middle of teaching and a car with a loud exhaust would go by, the cars that boy racers drive and the lecturer would stop and say, 'oh girls does that not just make you weak at the knees? How can you resist that? Those boys pay a lot of money for their car to make that sound but wow does it pay off. It's a chick magnet, it's what every woman looks for in a male'. Always made me chuckle Grin

Ingridla · 17/07/2021 23:26

I absolutely detest them, the fright they give me when they rev up, I'd ban them if I was in charge!
