Just been pinged by Covid app

HildegardeCrowe · 15/07/2021 23:50

I’ve just been pinged by the Covid app and been told to self-isolate for 5 days. I’ve been double-jabbed and have absolutely no symptoms. Haven’t knowingly been in contact with anyone with Covid and haven’t used track and trace either for weeks. I’m mystified and am wondering what to do. What would you do?

Well I’d ignore it. Because it’s not fit for purpose. But then I think anyone who has the Bluetooth turned on is mad.

If TEST and trace contacted me then that’s different.

akwhdhdbaa · 15/07/2021 23:57

I don't understand why people have the app scanning and then ignore it when it suggests isolating 😂 Just turn it off.

maddening · 15/07/2021 23:59

What were you doing 5 days ago?

youngestisapsycho · 15/07/2021 23:59

Everyday someone posts the same thing… delete the app and carry on!

girlmama32 · 15/07/2021 23:59

I'd ignore it and delete the app

HildegardeCrowe · 16/07/2021 00:00

Have deleted the bloody thing

Mojitofairy · 16/07/2021 00:01

Delete, walk away. It’s nonsense.
I’m all for the roolz but the app is utter rubbish.

SingingInTheShithouse · 16/07/2021 00:01

I got rid of it as it's useless

I was shielding as CV, so hadn't left the house bar late night empty beach walks. I was still getting pinged because we have a pub & a cafe very nearby 🤦‍♀️

HildegardeCrowe · 16/07/2021 00:06

Quite fancy skiving off work and having a long weekend 😏 am NHS though and would feel bad

Just had the same thing happen to me, told to isolate for 8 days. Haven’t even left the house in the last week so absolutely baffled. Cancelled a big weekend away with friends with 2 hours notice because a couple of them are high risk and I wouldn’t want to risk putting them in danger. Take a lateral flow everyday this week, all negative. To say I’m annoyed would be an understatement but isolating feels like the right thing to do.

Did bloody delete the app straight away though!

SmidgenofaPigeon · 16/07/2021 00:19

@Hillary17 cancelling your weekend away seems really extreme when you hadn’t even left the house Confused

RedToothBrush · 16/07/2021 00:25

Yabu.

Anyone with any sense deleted the app or never downloaded it in the first place as its not fit for purpose and its been well publicised for months about how its not fit for purpose.

The worst thing is it undermines public confidence in the whole isolation system and the official legally enforcable test and trace.

AND it lulls people who trust it into a false sense of security as if they are 'safer' for using it thus changing behaviour and being more likely to do things (particularly indoors) than they might without the app.

Not to mention its useless because it relies on a critical % of the population using it, even if it did work, to be an effective. Given so many people don't use it or deleted it, its bloody pointless. Better just to wear a mask, stay outside and keep your distance rather than think the millions wasted on this white elephant has done anything more than make tories richer.

Honestly if you have got to this point and still are using an app that the nhs, the police and mps themselves because its not fit for purpose have been told not to use, you are off your rocker and need to pay more attention / think more critically.

Angelou79 · 16/07/2021 00:31

Take a lateral flow test

Angelou79 · 16/07/2021 00:38

Also the app is voluntary, however if you are told to isolate & don’t up to £1000 fine. If it is a true contact you should get a call. I’m in similar situation at moment.
Colleague has lateral flow tested positive so may need to isolate, I’ve taken test & negative, no messages yet so will continue masks & hand gel but carry on.(taking test every day) I’m double jabbed as are 2/3 others I’m meeting tomorrow who have also got positive contacts today. However none have been pinged yet. It’s getting worse yet Boris thinks it’s over!😡

reannneeee · 16/07/2021 00:41

The app is a load of crap. My nan literally never leaves her home. She has food dropped off at her door and is terrified of Covid so the whole pandemic they’ve knocked and left it on the doorstep. The other week she got pinged to self isolate Hmm

user1473878824 · 16/07/2021 01:14

I would isolate because as the other thread decimating a woman over the jab proves that having it doesn’t mean you can’t get it or spread it.

Saoirse82 · 16/07/2021 02:46

I got pinged to isolate back in January, DH the day before me and I gave him a right bollocking about being secretive about where he'd been. When I pinged the next day I was very sheepish, and I was baffled because I had left the house on the day I was meant to have been a close contact. Turns out our next door neighbours had covid and the phones had connected through the wall!

Saoirse82 · 16/07/2021 02:47

*hadn't left the house i should say

goodjoujou · 16/07/2021 07:48

Are they just randomly pinging people to get the numbers up? The number of people I know who ave been pinged in last few weeks has risen amatically.

goodjoujou · 16/07/2021 07:48

*dramatically

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 16/07/2021 07:54

Your NHS, got pinged but are ignoring it?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 16/07/2021 07:54

**you're

Tohaveandtohold · 16/07/2021 08:00

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor If she’s working for the NHS, the chances are the close contact was when she was in the hospital and wearing masks, social distancing and all that.
My husband works for the NHS and in his trust, they have been told since the beginning of the pandemic to delete the app. They are always in contact with patients who have covid because they treat them but take all the precautions. They’ll be isolating everyday if they use the app because the Bluetooth on the app will always pick up the cases around them

Hillary17 · 16/07/2021 08:14

Maybe but I’ve got high risk friends, and me having bottomless brunch isn’t worth the risk of them getting really sick 🤷🏻‍♀️

milveycrohn · 16/07/2021 08:18

According to todays paper's, the Bluetooth connects through walls, so neighbours are getting pinged, even when they have not left the house.
