Just been pinged by Covid app

I’ve just been pinged by the Covid app and been told to self-isolate for 5 days. I’ve been double-jabbed and have absolutely no symptoms. Haven’t knowingly been in contact with anyone with Covid and haven’t used track and trace either for weeks. I’m mystified and am wondering what to do. What would you do?

Let's not involve the Post Office in all this...

I've just had a ping this morning. I'll be isolating, think it's right to when I have a fair few high risk friends (inc those who can't have the vaccine) and co-workers.

I'm gutted (I had weekend plans and big stuff happening at work on Monday) but I'm not prepared to risk someone's health, even if it's a tiny chance and - more importantly - I have the kind of set up where I can isolate effectively and easily. I'm grateful to be lucky enough to have the means to isolate and get to make the decision that I feel is morally right. I have friends and family who have made decisions they weren't happy with morally because it would have meant not being able to feed their children... so there but for the grace of God go I. I know I'm very lucky to be in a position where I get to put my feelings about doing the right thing over the need to fulfil basic living requirements - that's something that shouldn't need to happen.

It's a fucking minefield and everyone just has to do what they feel is right, according to their ability to do so.

Dd has just been contacted by her boyfriend to say he has covid, she texted work and theyve said she should only isolate if she gets contacted by track and trace or gets pinged

Which obviously isn’t the case!

Most people I know have deleted the app or turned off the tracking ability - apart from some colleagues who seem to want to be pinged every other week so have to self isolate

@Soontobe60

I’ve been in close, prolonged contact with my son in law 3 times in the past week. He tested +ve yesterday (Wednesday). My contact was Monday, Sunday, Saturday and the previous Monday (I provide childcare for my grandchildren and he works from home). He has given my details to Track and Trace yesterday and they have yet to contact me. Last time I was in contact with a +ve case they contacted me the same day as her result came through. I’d been in contact with her 2 days before she tested +ve. All the stuff online says I should self isolate for 10 days, but why haven’t I been contacted???
Too many cases atm. Test and trace cant keep up. That's the problem.

If you have been in contact with someone who you know has covid and you know you are a close contact and has actively passed your details on, just isolate...

Don't wait to be called as thats just bloody stupid.

Imnothereforthedrama · 16/07/2021 13:19

I’m a absolutely would not isolate if I got pinged I have contact tracing off anyway and the only reason I keep it because some places get arsey if you don’t scan in and make you fill a form in , but from next week I’ll delete anyway .

Yeah to people wondering why they haven't been contacted by T&T yet when their mate is positive, that would be because there were 48,000 people testing positive yesterday. T&T have to be given the info then get in touch with the positive person to quiz them about where they've been and who they've got as contacts, then they can start working through the lists of numbers to notify you. Takes a while!

The NHS covid app is a blunt instrument. All it can tell you is that someone with the app tested positive, and your phone showed as being in close contact with that positive person's phone for the timescale deemed to be a risk for infection. It's pinging hundreds of thousands of people because hundreds of thousands currently have covid and most people are out and about and in contact with lots of friends/family/randoms on a daily basis!

BoredZelda · 16/07/2021 14:01

AND it lulls people who trust it into a false sense of security as if they are 'safer' for using it thus changing behaviour and being more likely to do things (particularly indoors) than they might without the app.

Not one shred of evidence that this is the case.

tttigress · 16/07/2021 14:19

I would delete the app and ignore it.

Oh I absolutely agree and I wouldn’t wait for test and trace to contact me . Obviously if I know I’ve been in contact with someone who’s tested positive I’d isolate as I have done several times . I’ve isolated because I’ve been a close contact I’ve even caught Covid off a contact . I’ve only been told by the app I don’t get people saying waiting for test and trace what do they mean they don’t ring round everyone only those tested positive. You’re notified by test and trace by the app and text . In the circumstances that people have no idea why I’d ignore the ping it’s common sense .

why would a lady who lives alone & never leaves home have the app?

I know I deleted mine within days of it being released & installed. Chapeau to those of you who lasted with it this long.
