sweat pants (nearly) falling down

covilha · 14/07/2021 21:40

Please help: when I go to the gym, my trousers start to slip down, especially on the treadmill. This has happened my entire gym going life, from being (fairly) young and slight to much older and larger (and yes, I have bought new trousers to match my size). So please, wise ladies of Mumsnet, can I draw on your sartorial expertise and suggest solutions or alternatives. Shorts would not work, as I do not wish to show up the lovely ladies of love island (Haha). Sorry, but I am posting for traffic, my post pandemic size requires drastic measures and gym going is one of them.

Have you tried leggings or something high waisted with a draw string?

Lockheart · 14/07/2021 21:46

Surely high waisted leggings are the answer?

covilha · 14/07/2021 21:51

Thank you @Lockheart and @user1471878824. I was hoping high wasted leggings would work- and bought a pair last week. But no, as soon as I was on the treadmill they attempted the downward descent. Drawstrings seem to work there way loose too, as I had a couple of pairs but they just became looser the more I rang.

I swear by Gymshark leggings and sweats, I just knot the string to stop the sweatpants falling down.

TeamEponine · 14/07/2021 22:11

I got a pair of these recently and they are the only pair that don’t budge, even with my phone in the pocket. They are very high waisted, but I think the important thing is that it is not a smooth waistband, but instead an elastic strip within the waistband - iyswim. Good price too.

Funnylittlefloozie · 14/07/2021 22:16

TeamEponine The size chart for those leggings (which look really good, btw) suggests that an XL is a 36" hip???? Or am I reading it wrong?

OP, you just need to tie a knot in your drawstrings!

BitterTits · 14/07/2021 22:18

I have this problem so I have to size up. It means they are a bit baggy behind the knee but at least they stay put.

TeamEponine · 14/07/2021 22:19

I’m a size 10-12 and very pear shaped, and the small is perfect for me. Just ordered a second pair Grin

HalfCakeHalfBiscuit · 14/07/2021 22:20

Wear a pair of braces

covilha · 14/07/2021 22:41

@TeamEponine- thanks for this, they look great- and everything is improved by pockets! @SirenSaysSirenshark I have not heard of this brand, the sweatpants look as though they might do the trick.
@Bittertips- I have tried going large and small, neither has worked so far, but with my new recommendations I am starting to feel optimistic again- thanks ladies
@HalfCakeHalfBiscuit- haha- don't think desperation hasn't forced me to consider it- neon yellow braces anyone? www.partydelights.co.uk/Fancy-Dress/ProductDetail.aspx?StockCode=BRAC025

Seconding braces Grin

finallymightbehappening · 14/07/2021 22:47

Everyone I know swears by sweaty Betty. Expensive though.

covilha · 14/07/2021 22:51

@starfishmummy - hear hear!
@finallymightbehappening- thanks- they are a bit pricey and the only way I can find out if they work is if I try them-so cant take them back if I cant, but I too have heard very positive things about sweatybetty

OP posts:
SirenSays · 14/07/2021 22:58

There's another thread on here at the moment talking about the quality of sweaty betty going massively downhill, I've never tried them so I don't know but it's something to consider I guess.

covilha · 14/07/2021 23:05

@Sirensays- thanks for the headsup- its popularity has gone through the roof during the pandemic as folks have raved about their quality. If that has gone down then their pricing really do not seem to be justified

Laufeythejust · 14/07/2021 23:17

I swear by sweaty Betty but only the power leggings (the others I thought were crap!). They are great for returns if they don’t fit too. If you know a student it’s 20% with UNiDAYS but they are still very pricey. Fabletics are also really good (247 or powerhold ones) but you have to sign up with them and then cancel the subscription otherwise you get charged which is a pain.

SirenSays · 14/07/2021 23:17

If you can get to a Nike outlet store or even a TKmax you should be able to find leggings at good prices. Make sure you try them on before you buy.

Kolo · 14/07/2021 23:19

The only leggings I buy now are born nouli. They are not a budget brand, but the quality is superb. They are completely like a second skin, really flattering/sculpting and do not budge. I wore them all lockdown and am having so much difficulty in wearing anything else anymore!

cyclists bib shorts?

user1473878824 · 14/07/2021 23:23

OP what the hell are you doing on the treadmill, are you sure it’s the trousers? Grin

ShatParp · 14/07/2021 23:24

You need www.sturdybydesign.com/
👌

Coffeeisnecessary · 14/07/2021 23:30

I have the same problem but the only ones I had that fit well are lorna Jane, they do them on asos, but I'm tempted by the link up thread as that is a bargain!!

covilha · 14/07/2021 23:47

@kolo- Thanks for the link, I have never heard of the brand before. I am not usually a fan of patterned clothes, but I have to admit these look lovely
@ShatParp - thanks for the link- this is more within my usual price range.
@Iljkk-Thanks, never thought of this. Certainly beats the neon braces!
@Coffeeisnecessary- thanks leggings with pockets - YAY! Though have to admit the leggings in the link look like a real Nathan.
@user1473878824 - but what else would you do on a treadmill but run?! Alternative suggestions awaited with baited breath Grin

My favourites are USA Pro. Not cool or anything, but fit so well I don't have to think twice when running/doing squats
