They made final. It's an expetional achievement. They've put up hell a lot of fight. I didn't expect footbal team to reach that far. It's not failure, they've done great.

It was an amazing tournament in every respect for England.

Except they fucking lost.

Meh.

DrSbaitso · 12/07/2021 13:35

If it were the Olympics they'd have a silver medal and we would be very happy.

Youdiditanyway · 12/07/2021 13:36

They didn’t lose the game, penalties can go either way. It’s sad and shit but nobody failed, they tried their best.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 12/07/2021 13:37

Well, in a tournament like that once you get through to the final, it’s all about winning. Nothing else was going to cut it really. So yes, they’ve lost. And they’re allowed to feel gutted about it quite frankly.

Turefu · 12/07/2021 13:41

Of course they allowed to feel gutted. I just think they've don't great and didn't fail.

Theredjellybean · 12/07/2021 13:42

Well they failed to win... So yes its technically a failure.
But I agree that every congratulations should be given to a team and manager who represented England so well.
They appear well mannered, respectful, hard working sportsmen who for me have changed my opinion of footballers.
They have been a credit to England.
I just don't understand why they can't draw and have joint title holders

Mischance · 12/07/2021 13:43

They lost - end of. That counts as a fail.

Dartsplayer · 12/07/2021 13:54

@DrSbaitso

If it were the Olympics they'd have a silver medal and we would be very happy.
Yes this. We held them to a draw for 120 minutes. Penalties is always a terrible way to go out
SmidgenofaPigeon · 12/07/2021 13:57

You can’t really compare it to the Olympics though. A bronze and silver and gold are all different levels of podium winning. In the euros and world cup there is one level of winning.

ParsleyDill · 12/07/2021 14:01

It depends on how you define failure, I suppose. They succeeded in getting to the final for the first time in the history of the tournament, though they failed to win it.

Thewiseoneincognito · 12/07/2021 14:01

Italy Won the tournament. England was one of the other 23 losers.

fakeplantsdontlookreal · 12/07/2021 14:01

They failed to win but that does not make them a failure. They still came second out of all the teams involved. The actual game was a draw. Penalties are awful.

DrSbaitso · 12/07/2021 14:05

As my husband sometimes says: what is failure?

Parker231 · 12/07/2021 14:09

They aren’t failures - they were just beaten by a better team.

Thewiseoneincognito · 12/07/2021 14:13

Imagine how smug ENGERRRLUND fans would have been towards the Italians today if we’d won it. 🤨

It clearly doesn’t want to come home that’s for sure.

Porcupineintherough · 12/07/2021 14:18

They made it to the final and played well (if not well enough) when they got there. It wasnt a rout. I'm proud of them.

MarshaBradyo · 12/07/2021 14:19

Lots of anti behaviour today no doubt

But yes they did well. Young, excellent players

It was a bit sad but lots to build on

Porcupineintherough · 12/07/2021 14:19

So for those that see it as a failure, do you see a silver or bronze medal in Olympic events as a failure too?

MarshaBradyo · 12/07/2021 14:19

@Porcupineintherough

They made it to the final and played well (if not well enough) when they got there. It wasnt a rout. I'm proud of them.
Me too
safariboot · 12/07/2021 14:19

I think England got to the final on luck as much as skill. Didn't really face any of the other top teams until the final, and had virtually all the matches at Wembley. (OK Denmark were not to be underestimated).

England won't get another chance that favourable for decades to come, and they blew it. So often England have been on the wrong end of "groups of death" or of bad refereeing, but not this year.

TiddyAndFletch · 12/07/2021 14:22

All they failed to do was kick a ball into a net enough times. It doesn't actually matter - people over-invest in football.

Jmaho · 12/07/2021 14:22

I'm gutted but happy we made a final. It's more than we've had for all the years I've been alive. I think it's very odd to just chuck us in with all the other teams. We were finalists and we held them to a draw. I'm proud of what we achieved

mumof3wonderfuls · 12/07/2021 14:24

I totally agree. They've done amazing. I want them to know and believe it.

anon12345678901 · 12/07/2021 14:25

I think England did great to hold Italy to a draw, penalties can go either way. I'm proud of the English football team 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

CovidCorvid · 12/07/2021 14:29

I thought this was going to be about the tv series Lost….the final episode of that was a total failure!
