Another neighbour one

Neighbour has, without permission, painted the back and sides of my new and new painted fence, black, making a horrific mess.

What can I do?

That seems a very bizarre thing to do. Have you spoken to them about it?

If the the paint is still wet, could you hose down your fence and wash some paint off....

Sounds like criminal damage

I would be expecting it painted back to the original colour and if not new panels.

Yes and they told me to f off. Paint is dry - just back from a night away.

I am just so annoyed my expensive, new and lovely fence which is only up a week has been painted black. "My" side of the fence is a right state.

On their side? I've painted my side of the fence and next door have painted their side since. Think we own it but no idea. I'd never ask if it was ok? They should be careful not to make a mess of your side though.

They habe painted "their side", the "sides" and have made such a mess on "my side" with huge black marks when obviously painting in between the fences.

Do you mean they have painted the back of the fence that is facing into their garden? What is the side of a fence?

If you are responsible for fencing on the boundary and it is your fence, then no they are not legally allowed to do that, but most people would let neighbours stain “their” side of the fence.

As far as I am aware, they can't paint your fence or hang anything from it without your permission. They sound a right unreasonable lot. I am not quite sure what you can do now its painted? They sound like terrible neighbours. Did you get on with them prior to this?

Paint bleeds, particularly in wooden fences. I don't understand why folk spend so much on a fence and don't agree a colour with the neighbour. My fence cost 3k,damn right I chose a colour with my neighbour.

In the US that would be criminal vandalism. Can you call the authorities?

What a dreadful thing for them to do.

Are they young? Old? Have they been hateful before?

Terrible neighbours for painting a fence?! I have never asked permission and neither has my neighbours in any house I have ever lived in!

Show us a photo so we can see how bad it is. It sounds damn rude, they must have known it would show on your side, did they not want the fence?

It is not a fence panel, rather individual slats set up like a picket fence if that makes sense hence the back, front and sides.

They have always been obnoxious. Mid 70s i guess.

Just to add if they had just painted "their" side i couldnt care less but it is the fact that they have done the sides and in doing so have made a right mess of my side of the fence. Can't really afford just to go buy new paint.

If they have always been a pain you have nothing to loose taking action. Take pictures get quotes to replace or repair and right to them.

Point out the problem isn’t going away so that can go it this way or do it this way with legal costs.

Seek legal advice. I would imagine they have to make good their side... Legally you can enter their property at an agreed time to paint the fence you own on their land.. Ime of similar batshit ndn.
