What time is too late? Inconsiderate neighbours.

Neighbours across the road (our fronts overlook their back garden) are being SO loud. Loads of adults shouting and blasting music, kids screaming and shrieking.

I get it's Friday. But it's 11pm (early enough I know but still seems late for kids to be screaming and shouting in their gardens..?) I've been awake since 6am for work this morning and I am tired and want sleep.

AIBU for being a grumpy cow or am I within my rights to possibly go over there and douse them all with my hose?

Is anyone else suffering with Noisy Neighbouritus right now?

Sounds horrible... Report to council for noise nuisance. Don't suffer in silence.

Mrgrinch · 09/07/2021 23:15

How many of them are there? Covid rules are still currently in place

CarnationCat · 09/07/2021 23:16

By 11, they should definitely be quiet. They shout be quieting down at 10 IMO. You can't expect people not to have fun in their own garden but 10pm is definitely late enough for a lot of noise.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 09/07/2021 23:18

It would really depend on how often do they do this. Once a six months? Ok. Every second wewk? Not ok

Summersun2020 · 09/07/2021 23:19

If it was a weekly occurrence I’m totally with you. However as a one off or rare occasion, meh. Let them have fun, it’s only one night. Bit miserable to complain re a one off.

HomerSimpsonsDonut · 09/07/2021 23:23

I can't see without looking painfully obviously I am staring out my window at them. I'm currently in the conservatory at the back of my house to escape the noise Sad Very annoying how inconsiderate some people are.

Eleoura · 09/07/2021 23:24

Check if your local council have any noise restrictions and times. I agree, its not great at all, and frankly rude IMO. If outside the permitted times, the council can provide sound equipment to check the actual noise level. (In my area anyways)

The fact you get up at 6am is irrelevant in terms of legality. Sorry.

HomerSimpsonsDonut · 09/07/2021 23:27

@Eleoura I would assume it is 7am - 11pm, standard around the UK (or at least England) I think.

I mentioned I'd been up since 6am to sort of emphasise how tired I am. I know it doesn't affect anyone else.

Suzi888 · 09/07/2021 23:28

Oooh leave it unless it’s a regular occurrence (IMO).

Beanybob · 09/07/2021 23:30

Maybe it's a birthday/one off party. Are they still going?

HomerSimpsonsDonut · 09/07/2021 23:31

@Suzi888 luckily it isn't a regular occurance but they have only been living there about 2 months, if that. Worrying this may be the start of it? They have recently kitted out their garden with lights and furniture. Looks really nice but worried this is going to signal that they are going to be spending a lot of time outside.

Yes, still going. I am going to have to sleep in another room tonight as my bedroom window overlooks them and I can hear everything.

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 09/07/2021 23:33

I’m quite happy to be miserable. If I can hear the music and ‘talking’ with all windows closed, the fan and tv on, through 2 closed doors, to the extent I can still hear all the lyrics and the screaming at 11.30pm when I have be in work at 5am the next morning, I’m going to complain! Local police here are very good and come out pretty quickly, we’re very lucky.

It’s a repeat offender if that makes me any less unreasonable. 🤷🏻‍♀️

jelly79 · 09/07/2021 23:33

If it's the first time just grin and bare it. If it happens again in the near future have a word

Ridiculous advice to report to the council

HomerSimpsonsDonut · 09/07/2021 23:35

@OnceUponAMidnightBeery I feel awful calling the coppers on them as they have so far not been a nuisance. If it becomes a weekly thing (which I'm worried it may do) I wouldn't hesitate. Nothing worse than disturbed sleep when you're up for a physical warehouse job at 6am!!

OP posts:
HomerSimpsonsDonut · 09/07/2021 23:36

@jelly79 they don't speak English so I'm afraid language barrier may be an issue? Otherwise I'd happily have a word/post a letter.

It seems lots of people are or some who never gave it up like my house share partying neighbours.
I wouldn't mind the noise so much if it was a one off and it is a Friday.
As for covid rules and crowds there has been loads of social gatherings, protests, football celebrations this year I wouldn't be annoyed at a home event with friends.
I'm not disagreeing with people celebrating it has been a long slog.

Beanybob · 09/07/2021 23:37

I hope you get some sleep. I don't know where people get the energy to be giddy in the garden at almost midnight.

Personally I'd give them this ONE night as benefit of the doubt (begrudgingly - I hate noise) but wouldn't hesitate to report if it becomes a regular weekend thing.

HomerSimpsonsDonut · 09/07/2021 23:40

@EmeraldShamrock I agree with you, as grumpy and tired as I am, I understand it has been a truly shit year and people deserve to be laughing again. As I said I'm just mored concerned it is going to become a regular thing. But that might be tiredness talking.

@Beanybob I'll try to chill out and sleep. I'll put my earplugs in and hope for the best!

Cocopogo · 09/07/2021 23:43

My next door but one neighbour, houses compact together, my bedroom is at the back is still making a noise. Not as bad as your sounds but music playing and loud talking/laughing. This is every week or so at moment with it being summer and it’s driving me insane!

Summersun2020 · 09/07/2021 23:43

Sorry but to be worried it’ll be a weekly thing if it’s been one single time in two months is very dramatic. Don’t get yourself worked up op.

EmeraldShamrock · 09/07/2021 23:45

@HomerSimpsonsDonut Keep an eye on it, my house sharing neighbours socialise in the garden if it wakes me I call the Gardai by 1am. Sorry to alarm you but mine are a nuisance.

OverByYer · 09/07/2021 23:49

Not a police matter

@HomerSimpsonsDonut I still feel awful tbh. But I gave it 3 weeks of every Friday and Saturday night until 1am or later, trying to sleep on the couch 2 rooms away and still being able to hear everything, and that was enough 🤷🏻‍♀️

I suspect mine come out for other issues, but they do come.
