School bubble burst - IABU

Bitchysideisouttoplay · 08/07/2021 11:38

I'll start this by saying I KNOW IABU I just need to vent. DD went to school this morning (primary) within an hour a message had been sent to collect her whole year group as there was a positive case and she needs to isolate for 10days. Fantastic (yes sarcasm). So bought her home, I've tested her and we will obviously stick to the rules. What has annoyed me is she goes back to school on the 19th, so the day that they stop the school isolation, and it's the Monday before they break up for the summer. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ she now cannot go to rainbows tonight, we are going to have to rework the plans for the weekend. She has to stay in but not her brother which seems stupid. I can still work with the vulnerable (even more stupid). Its just soooooo bloody frustrating.
Anyway rant over.

Honestly, I wouldn't bother at this point. Test her every morning with lfts and go about your plans.

Blackopal · 08/07/2021 12:05

Unbelievably frustrated too.
I just got my elder child back to school on Tuesday after isolating due to a case in class.
Wednesday I pick both children up to be told both now have to isolate until 19/7 due to case in contact with both. My employer is delighted...

Oh that sucks. I bet your employer is. This system sucks.🤦‍♀️ I get why (kinda) but really what changes in 2 weeks, except our sanity and pay??

I feel your pain… my eldest (year 6) in same situation = unpaid leave for me. Not great timing as I’m a single parent with secondary uniform to buy this summer 🙄

ForeverSausages · 08/07/2021 15:27

So that means someone had a positive PCR result / awaiting the PCR result and came into school? Are they sure on those dates as that seems odd? I feel your pain though my son is on his 2nd pretty much back to back isolation and it's beyond frustrating. He's back tomorrow and I'm still tempted not to send him in for fear of him having to self isolate again.

Fartymcfart · 08/07/2021 15:31

Yes same here, my little one sent home Monday, then had it extended till the 16th. I'm having a baby on the 16th!?!?!??! Really messed with my get everything ready plans.

Wondergirl100 · 08/07/2021 15:32

We are on MULTIPLE isolations here OP. My 7 year old is on her THIRD isolation. It is disgusting. I really think this society does not care about children and their welfare.

LondonJax · 08/07/2021 16:02

My DS (secondary) was sent home today because of a LFT positive in class. We're waiting on news of the PCR test on the student concerned. DH was due to go swimming this weekend for the first time in 18 months with his mates...might still happen, fingers crossed.

BTW I thought the isolation rules changed to double vaxxed people and school children don't have to isolate for a close contact on 16th August, not 19th July.

GreenWheat · 08/07/2021 16:06

This is yet another thread highlighting why close contact isolation needs to end, and thank goodness it is. It can't come soon enough.

Brainygaga · 08/07/2021 16:08

My Yr10 is on her 3rd isolation she has had a sum total of 4 days in school in the last month. She has 10 months before GCSE's - every day is precious, its just so damaging. Yr7 has gone back this week after her 10 days 🤬

Why would your DH not be able to go swimming? It'll only be your DS who needs to isolate
givemushypeasachance · 08/07/2021 16:12

Friend's five year old was told not to go in today, reception bubble has burst so that's them off for good now as they were breaking up next Friday. A fun first year of school all round for them!

19 July is formally the end of school bubbles and that whole faff, the change in real life contacts and isolating isn't until mid August.

Surlyburd · 08/07/2021 16:15

Same here. My daughters whole year bubble sent home thus morning til the 19th. I work in the school in that year , do have to isolate too! Just so frustrating.

Youdiditanyway · 08/07/2021 16:27

It’s ending in a month for under 18s so in all honesty I’d just carry on with your weekend plans if her test is negative.

Demelza82 · 08/07/2021 16:34

I'm.sorry controlling the spread of a potentially deadly virus is inconvenient to you.

sempiternal · 08/07/2021 16:37

Frustrating isn't it. DS has been isolating due to a approve case in his class and now DD is isolating too 🤦‍♀️ So more time off work for me, more money lost! They've missed or will miss after school activities, plans made with family, DS's birthday party will have to be cancelled at the weekend, can't go anywhere or do anything on his actual birthday.

Abraxan · 08/07/2021 16:39

I've read this a few times in MN now.
Isolations for children and double vaccinated people stops in 16 August, not 19 July iirr.

Oh bore off. How many rounds of isolation have your children had to do, especially when there is nothing wrong with them? How much unpaid leave have you had to take, and how many jobs have you lost due to you having to look after your kids at very short notice?
Winter2020 · 08/07/2021 17:23

It is 19 July for school bubbles ending (subject to confirmation)
Quote:
Worcestershire welcomes end of school bubblesPublished Thursday, 8th July 2021

Worcestershire has welcomed the news that school children will no longer be required to remain in bubbles from the Step 4 date of 19th July.

Subject to a final review of the data this week and confirmation on 12th July, Education Secretary, Gavin Williamson MP has announced that from Step 4 it will no longer be necessary to keep children in consistent groups or bubbles.

This means that bubbles will not need to be used for any summer provision or in schools from the autumn term. Any school still open at Step 4 may wish to continue with these measures until the end of their summer term

PumpkinKlNG · 08/07/2021 17:31

I’ve had to have at least 7 isolations as 3 kids in primary. I’m a
Lone parent so have to keep all the children home if one needs to isolate as no one to do the school run and I don’t drive. Been a nightmare tbh.

SleepingStandingUp · 08/07/2021 17:34

It isn't stupid that someone who hasn't been in contact with a positive case doesn't have to isolate.

If she remains unsymptomatic I'd keep testing with LFTs if you're worried about her having it

Helspopje · 08/07/2021 17:38

Isolations suck, buts what’s better - mass infection ?!?!
We’re on an uptick so clinging to July 19th smacks of ‘saving summer’ (y - saving Christmas worked so well not) and refusing to backdown from a previously agreed date no matter the situation to me.
All those people who will die
All those people with long term debilitation post Covid
BJ is deranged for sticking to this
Tammy if the immunocompromised can’t be vaccinated or don’t mount a vaccine response
Some areas (like mine) have woeful vaccine take up
Upside - my can mentally sack off everyone who has sacked off vaccination but now goes ahead solely so they can go on holiday

Iggi999 · 08/07/2021 17:41

Anything with an end date is always going to have people affected by whatever it is just before that. If they brought the end date forward, then people on the other side of that would be annoyed instead!
It's likely the isolation will have already started so it probably won't be 10 days from now, by the way.
Obviously it's ok to rant but I wonder what we'll rant about when there's no isolation, just lots more Covid.

Comedycook · 08/07/2021 17:44

Only two year groups left in my dc primary school

blahblahblah321 · 08/07/2021 17:57

My sister in law is a primary teacher, she only went back to work on Tuesday having been isolating for 10 days

Today the whole class have been sent home again!!

Must be a flipping nightmare for parents. I'm lucky that, touch wood, neither of my children have had their school/college bubble pop!
