School bubble burst - IABU

I'll start this by saying I KNOW IABU I just need to vent. DD went to school this morning (primary) within an hour a message had been sent to collect her whole year group as there was a positive case and she needs to isolate for 10days. Fantastic (yes sarcasm). So bought her home, I've tested her and we will obviously stick to the rules. What has annoyed me is she goes back to school on the 19th, so the day that they stop the school isolation, and it's the Monday before they break up for the summer. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ she now cannot go to rainbows tonight, we are going to have to rework the plans for the weekend. She has to stay in but not her brother which seems stupid. I can still work with the vulnerable (even more stupid). Its just soooooo bloody frustrating.
Anyway rant over.

It isn’t stupid that her brother doesn’t have to isolate, or “even more stupid” that you don’t. Your daughter has been in close contact with someone with covid. You haven’t. If everyone who’d been in contact with someone who’d been in contact with someone (etc) had to isolate, then nobody would ever be allowed out.

No but if we were wanting to actually eradicate it that is what you'd have to do. Which is why we have never been trying to do that, and why we should now just let kids have their last 5-10 days of term, sports days, picnics, leaving ceremony whatever. What's being lost now is disproportionate to the harm done by greater infection in this now much more protected population.

Why are you using lat flow tests on your primary aged child when they're not advised? Utterly bizarre. You can't send them back to school anyway because of a supposed positive test closing the bubble, so what are you gaining?
The country has gone absolutely insane.

Um I dont think I said a Lat flow test was used. I actually refuse to use those as the results are so inaccurate. I used a PCR test in her so I know if she has it at this stage. I did this because as I again said in the OP I work with Vulnerable people so I (and my employers) need to know if I need to isolate as well.

@Demelza82

I'm.sorry controlling the spread of a potentially deadly virus is inconvenient to you.
Oh ffs I said in my OP IABU. I know this. Trust me I know we all need to do our part and I think you'll find I said we will follow the rules. I'm sorry that I am completely human and may be slightly frustrated that this has happened 🙄🙄

I completely agree, its just frustrating that it is so close to being able to stop doing this (rightly or wrongly that's a whole other thread), and also they go back for 4 days, so just get back into your swing of things and then its 6 weeks holidays. It almost feels like what's the point. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

My son is coming up to the end of his 10 days isolation and now my daughter gets sent home to isolate for 10 days. Two weekend plans ruined! Getting her PCR tested and seriously considering not isolating this weekend. Looks like school sent home whole year group for both occasions so very slim chance either of them was actually in close contact with the person. In high school it's only the kids that sits next to kid effected.

HugeAckmansWife · 08/07/2021 20:47

Squiglet I absolutely wouldn't bother at this point if your DD can say she wasnt near this kid (if she doesn't know who it is then it's likely she wasn't). And the time for martyr ish handwringing about the deadly virus is past.
