No but my mum taught me I didn't have to. My mum does because she was forced to sit at the table until she'd eaten everything.

JaquelineBean · 06/07/2021 20:59

If I’m at home, I serve myself the portion size I’m likely to eat, so yes. There’s usually leftovers in the pan for seconds ( or tomorrow’s lunch). At someone’s house or at a restaurant, where someone else had done the plating up, and I’d had enough, I wouldn’t feel the need to clear my plate.

RubyGoat · 06/07/2021 20:59

Hell no. Very rarely. I usually leave some in the pan too. I really struggle to cook a single portion size.

Now I usually try to make much less than I think I'll want, even by about half, then go back a while later & get a drink or something extra. Or a piece of cheese for example. This has been more successful.

PaperMonster · 06/07/2021 20:59

No, I stop when I’ve had enough. Daughter does the same. OH eats it all and like he doesn’t know where his next meal is coming from.

Meatshake · 06/07/2021 21:00

Yes, it's a bad habit ingrained in the Clean Plate Club as a kid 🙃

inmyslippers · 06/07/2021 21:00

Yes I make what I need.

This! If at home I know how much food I want.
Ravenspeckingontheroof · 06/07/2021 21:02

No. I trained myself out of it in my 30s. Don’t usually put out more than I want at home, but if I’m given food when I’m out I stop when I’ve had enough. And I’ve stopped feeling guilty.

kindaclassy · 06/07/2021 21:02

It is really impolite to leave food on your plate when you are invited somewhere BUT you should serve yourself, not be given a ridiculously high pile of food .

I hate people who plate food for others.

PercyPiginaWig · 06/07/2021 21:03

No, I eat what I want until I'm full.
If I get to the end and have an empty plate but am still a bit hungry I'll have something else.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 06/07/2021 21:03

Usually yes, if I’ve cooked it and dished up, as I know what I like. Takeaway or a meal out, not always, no.

RampantIvy · 06/07/2021 21:03

I'm assuming that most replies refer to when people have cooked or themselves, so why put too much on the plate in the first place? Why not just put a smaller portion on?

Ninkanink · 06/07/2021 21:03

Usually. But I serve myself and generally know how hungry I am or how much I will want. If I find myself starting to feel full or don’t want any more then I won’t finish it. Nothing is wasted, though. I keep leftovers and reuse.

HarrietHairbrush · 06/07/2021 21:04

95% of the time

AbsolutelySure · 06/07/2021 21:05

Yes I do, but I wish I didn't.... it comes from not being allowed to leave the table until I'd finished eating.

wanderedlonelyasacloud · 06/07/2021 21:07

I used to but since I've been pregnant I physically can't - my portions have gone to about a third of the size of before and I struggle with finishing that tbh

ThePluckOfTheCoward · 06/07/2021 21:08

Yes, but I try to only put what I think I can or should eat on the plate, as otherwise I will eat everything because I am a product of my childhood from long, long ago when we always had to finish our meals because wasting food was akin to a mortal sin. Plus I do enjoy my grub 🐷.

Cotswoldmama · 06/07/2021 21:11

No

SprayedWithDettol · 06/07/2021 21:12

No.

starfishmummy · 06/07/2021 21:13

At home, with tried and tested meals I know how much to make and serve so would normally finish.
In a restaurant then generally no, I dont eat it all

TwoZeroTwoZero · 06/07/2021 21:14

Yea usually. I eat really quickly too, like I'm worried that someone's going to nick it!

RitaFires · 06/07/2021 21:16

No, but I wrap it up and put it in the fridge and come back to it later or the next day. I might finish if I'm very hungry but I like having leftovers.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 06/07/2021 21:19

Surely if you are sensible when serving up/portion control you don't have any food left, most of the time? Anyone who regularly thrown food in the bin needs to figure out portion sizes, food waste is appalling.

Whoopsies · 06/07/2021 21:19

Yes, because I cook and am very mindful when cooking not to cook too much. We all have quite small portions with the mind that we can eat later if we're hungry, which we rarely do.

Xmassprout · 06/07/2021 21:19

Yes, even when not hungry. I was taught as a child to always eat everything on my plate.

Now I'm far better with my portion sizes so I genuinely want everything on my plate.
