Dropped my mensural cup in a public toilet

So I just dropped my cup in a public toilet ☹️ I had nothing else with me and I’m on my heaviest day! So I had to rinse it off with water and soap from the dispenser and put it back in. I feel so disgusting. I’m on a long car journey, so not an option to go home and haven’t got any other form of sanitary product with me.
Am I going to get an infection or worse?! 😩😢

Public toilets are usually in towns or places near shops. Or you could stop off at the next service station and get something.

FlaminEckVera · 06/07/2021 17:43

Well, I wouldn't have used the soap! Shock

Just warm water would have done.

I doubt you will get a bad infection though. But perhaps avoid using public toilet soap (in future,) for something you put in your vaj!

Cinnabun18 · 06/07/2021 17:44

Nooooooooo! I feel your pain!

I think you will be ok sad you washed it off with soap and water but I totally relate to how you feel mentally it would mess with me aswell.

I'm just picturing it dropping in absolute slow mo whilst you fumble trying to catch it, realise it's too late and watch it plunge in. Bloody public toilets. I'm so sorry

lughnasadh · 06/07/2021 17:46

Why is a public toilet worse than your own?

I mean, you washed the thing.

Just buy a pack of towels if you're actually worried.

WorraLiberty · 06/07/2021 17:46

Surely you could've used a huge wad of loo roll and get to the nearest shop?

Infection is a possibility, yes.

AlmostAlwyn · 06/07/2021 17:50

It's a horrible thought but you will be absolutely fine. Soap and water will have washed off most bacteria that might have been there so you did the right thing. I don't know what could be wrong with the soap? Confused

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 06/07/2021 17:56

It'll be fine. Trust me; I know these things...

wobblywinelover · 06/07/2021 17:59

I've bought a moon cup (it was a wine fuelled purchase from the internet), I felt excited at the thought of using it. It's been sat in the box for the last 6 months because i'm too scared to use it. The added thought of potentially dropping it down the loo isn't great either..

SpaceRaiders · 06/07/2021 18:00

I would have used some tissue until I’d found an alternative

User5827372728 · 06/07/2021 18:01

I would have risked the leaking period!!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 06/07/2021 18:02

You used soap and water, it'll be fine, it's not idea but it'll be fine.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 06/07/2021 18:02

**ideal

User1357 · 06/07/2021 18:02

I would have use toilet roll. I’m sure it will be fine thoughZ

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 06/07/2021 18:03

** I thought you'd dropped it on the FLOOR not IN the loo, no way would I have used it Shock

ComtesseDeSpair · 06/07/2021 18:04

As we’ve learned from the past year and a half, soap and hot water are excellent at breaking down viruses and bacteria on surfaces. You aren’t going to be infected with disease because you didn’t immediately sterilise it before reinserting.

PumpkinKlNG · 06/07/2021 18:04

I would have just used A wad of toilet roll personally!!

HalfTermHalfTerm · 06/07/2021 18:05

@NeverDropYourMoonCup

It'll be fine. Trust me; I know these things...
Grin

I think you’ll be OK, OP. The soap should have got rid of anything nasty and hopefully you washed all of the soap off to avoid getting anything from that! Once you’re somewhere with a kitchen you can sterilise it too if it makes you feel better.

44PumpLane · 06/07/2021 18:12

Honestly the soap and water will have done a perfectly fine job (given the gross out in assuming you gave it a thorough rinse).

If you are at all prone to thrush or bacterial infections down below, purchase over the counter remedies and have them at home in case you start to feel anything coming on and you can tackle it ASAP.

Honestly though, you're fine, ancient folks used to stuff mosses and all sorts up there to stem their flow, I'm sure you'll survive :)

TerribleCustomerCervix · 06/07/2021 18:27

Not to be crude, but penises go up there and they aren’t exactly sterile….

Drivingmisspotty · 06/07/2021 18:30

😂 so true. What has more bacteria? Average public women’s toilet or average penis? It’s got to be a close call.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 06/07/2021 18:31

One of reasons I’m not using a mooncup.

icebearforpresident · 06/07/2021 18:32

Nothing useful to add but you’re a braver woman than me OP.

cookiecreampie · 06/07/2021 18:34

Ewwwwww

Neuts346 · 06/07/2021 18:34

Unhelpful but this has put me off the moon cup I was considering.
I’d get it out at first opportunity and buy some Sanpro.

Drivingmisspotty · 06/07/2021 18:35

I posted a similar thread a few years ago OP when I dropped mine down the loo at work.

It freaked me out and luckily I had some other supplies around but most people calmed me down that it would be okay.

I did get a sneery comment that the ‘type of people who use mooncups’ shouldn’t be scared of toilets Hmm
