To find wimpy men such a turn off?!

I'm talking about my DP specifically here. He had a tooth out yesterday morning and has been in bed ever since. I had two teeth out 2 years ago and just carried on as normal, despite developing dry socket....!
What happened to all the manly men?!

Does he have form for this? Some extractions are much more painful than others, depending on the tooth and the dentist.

I see this "dressing gown of doom" bit about men all of the time on MN. I've never seen this in my own family. Perhaps American men are more stoic. Smile

warmfluffytowels · 06/07/2021 14:29

Well, when I had a tooth out a couple of years ago I could barely open my mouth, let alone talk or go to work. I was in agony.

Then I had another out a year later and was back at work the same day.

Honestly, some extractions are awful and you're left with bruising, swelling and worse. Some are routine and no problem at all.

topwings · 06/07/2021 14:33

Strange choice of language. What constitutes manly?

Is him being in bed affecting your day?

ThursdayWeld · 06/07/2021 14:36

What does "manly" mean then? Why have you decided that how you and your DH handle things is down to your sexes?

You sound like some kind of fifties throwback.

I find anyone, male or female wimpy to be highly irritating.

I'm wondering what a 'manly man' is...

OP, if that’s how you think about your partner you should break up with him. It’s horrible. You clearly despise him.

ScottishNewbie · 06/07/2021 14:40

I think in general 'most' women just carry on. I think it's about strength of will. Men allow themselves the luxury of wallowing. They don't feel the need to excuse their existence.
We are raised to not take up space, not cause any hassle etc.

Maybe he’s a malinger, maybe he’s in pain. It sounds like you do nt really like him.

dextermorgan00 · 06/07/2021 14:44

Why did u marry him if he was wimpy?

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 06/07/2021 14:44

Yes you're totally right, poor choice of words on my part. I'd find it equally as irritating from a woman as a man.

OP posts:
RaginaFalangi · 06/07/2021 14:44

He's obviously in pain, as others have said you clearly don't like him

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 06/07/2021 14:47

The tooth extraction is just the latest in a long list really. He's always been like this, very 'woe is me'. I'm fed up of being expected to 'suck it up' and get on with it.

AnneLovesGilbert · 06/07/2021 14:47

Can you clarify what you mean by manly?

DH has a very high pain threshold and prefers to soldier on if he’ll ill or injured. It meant that when he was seriously ill and ended up in hospital for several weeks a while back he was in far worse shape and took much longer to improve than if he’d admitted how bad he felt and got help sooner.

Is that the sort of manly you’re after?

Samedaysameshit · 06/07/2021 15:01

You need a dump him and marry Wayne Shelford the rugby player.
He has his scrotum ripped open in a game and had one testicle hanging out of his shorts. He had it stitched back up on the touchline and re-joined the game. He then had 4 teeth kicked out and only finally left the pitch when he was knocked unconscious.
I guess that must be a manly man.

Northernparent68 · 06/07/2021 15:02

Ok, so he’s a woe is me, it’s unattractive but it’s not a sex issue, there are just as many women who swing the lead as men

Isitpossi · 06/07/2021 15:02

Yanbu

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 06/07/2021 15:03

I am having a tooth out tomorrow....dreading it!
But can't be as bad as childbirth, right?

Who expects you to "suck it up and get on with it?"
fromdownwest · 06/07/2021 15:04

@SpunBodgeSquarepants - Probably staying in bed to keep away from you! Enjoying the peace and quiet!

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 06/07/2021 15:07

@fromdownwest Could very well be the case 😂

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 06/07/2021 15:09

@forgothowmuchihatehomeschoolin Well I thought it was a breeze, personally! Be careful not to dislodge the clot afterwards though or you'll end up with dry socket which IS on a par with childbirth. Hope it goes well 👍
