How often do you clean your fridge?

Just done mine. Had it all out, cleaned it and put it all back. I am pretty good at not having mouldy or out of date stuff in there, but I clean is maybe 2x a year?

My DM does hers EVERY time she goes shopping and refills the fridge. I am exhausted at the thought of doing that.

When I think it needs it. Maybe 3-4 times a year? This should be a good competitive disgusting/hyper clean thread though!

Leftphalange · 03/07/2021 20:33

I give it a quick clean each time I get a shopping delivery, but don't pull everything properly put everytime

BlackeyedSusan · 03/07/2021 20:33

when it needs doing.

FindingMeno · 03/07/2021 20:34

When it looks manky.
Probably 2 or 3 times a year.

theneverendinglaundry · 03/07/2021 20:35

Usually once a month before I get big grocery delivery.

MistyFrequencies · 03/07/2021 20:36

I wipe it down weekly when I do the shopping but actual clean taking shelves out and washing is probably twice a year....it's July and I've only done it once.

TwoMuchTwoYoung · 03/07/2021 20:36

When I spill something or it starts to smell.
3/4 times a year.

JadeSeahorse · 03/07/2021 20:36

I give mine a deep clean once per week but, in fairness, I am a self confessed "Neat freak". 😁

BarberQueue · 03/07/2021 20:37

Every week just before my grocery delivery arrives. It takes less than five minutes to do when the fridge is nearly empty.

Bksjshsbbev2737 · 03/07/2021 20:37

Every few weeks; more when I notice than anything else

pigsDOfly · 03/07/2021 20:38

There have been threads about this on MN in the past and you'd been amazed OP how many people claim to clean their fridge every time they go shopping.

I suspect it depends how you define 'cleaning' though.

When I clean my fridge it's a thorough clean, all shelves removed and washed, thorough clean of the inside.

I suspect that a lot of people who claim to clean it every time they go shopping are just wiping down the shelves a bit.

Can't imagine coming back from the supermarket once a week and setting about cleaning the fridge from top to bottom each time.

Like Kentuki, I do it when I think it's needed and probably that's also about 3 or 4 times a year.

BiteyShark · 03/07/2021 20:40

Clearing stuff out that needs binning twice a week when we get shopping delivered.

Wiping down shelves as and when needed on visual inspection.

Getting shelves out and giving it a really good clean maybe twice a year and that also involves pulling it out and hoovering the back of it from dust (American style fridge freezer).

UnsolicitedDickPic · 03/07/2021 20:41

When there's been a spill, or if it looks seriously manky and I start to feel ashamed opening the door.

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 03/07/2021 20:42

I used to do it every week before the ‘ big shop ‘ .
It’s more every other big shop now , so once every 2 weeks , takes at most 10 minutes as there isn’t much in the fridge and it’s fairly clean so don’t take long
If I waited twice a year I’d be there at LEAST an hour scrubbing and washing and disinfecting

BiteyShark · 03/07/2021 20:46

All the items are packaged or covered so spillages are infrequent and therefore a quick spray on a cloth and wipe keeps shelves clean.

The dirtiest is the vegetable draw but even then a quick empty of 'bits' and a wipe keeps it clean.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 03/07/2021 20:48

Only when I absolutely have to.

I might muck out the salad drawer more often, though.

WillYouDoTheFandango · 03/07/2021 20:49

When it stinks. Which was last week. Turned out to be a mouldy —almost liquid — leek.

It probably gets done every other month.

Essentialironingwater · 03/07/2021 20:50

When I think "ewww"!

Not every week, though I did used to pre-kids!

elp30 · 03/07/2021 20:50

I take everything out of the fridge, take out shelves and clean the fridge every week before I go shopping for the week. I'm in the US so I own those large American fridges too. It literally takes about 10-15 minutes tops. My father's partner owned a restaurant and I suppose I picked that up from her.

tommmanndjjerrry · 03/07/2021 20:50

Maybe every few months I take everything out end wash with hot water.

Every week when the food shop arrives it's usually nearly empty so I spray inside with antibacterial spray and wipe it down before putting food away.

sherrystrull · 03/07/2021 20:52

Every couple of months. I do wipe the bottom regularly though. I also put a piece of kitchen roll in the bottom of each salad drawer which I replace every couple of weeks and catches manky things.

Wond3rment · 03/07/2021 20:53

About every 3 or 4 weeks before I put away the groceries. Takes about 15 mins each time and usually needs it. I probably live with messy feckers though

ChocolateHelps · 03/07/2021 20:56

Wow! I cleaned my fridge last week...I think it's the first time since in about 5 years!😂.

Obviously I clean any spills, which is rare. I pull out the vegetables drawer every week and clean that properly ...but taking out all the shelves and the door shelves....not even annually

M0nstermunch · 03/07/2021 21:00

Once a month when I do a really good kitchen clean; oven, fridges and microwave.

girlmama32 · 03/07/2021 21:02

Reading these replies I feel disgusting haha I think I've cleaned ours properly once since we moved in two years ago Blush
Obviously if there's spills it gets cleaned up etc but I don't take everything out and do it very often.
Our oven got done last week for the first time too there's just never enough hours in the day!
