Private number at 3am?

Hello everyone! This might sound strange but this morning at 3am (ikr?), I got a call from a private number. What is the reason behind this?

I literally left the ringer on (cos I'm a lazy sack of fat) and it sort of scared me lol.

I guess we'll never know the reason if it was a one off. Could have even been a wrong number. I wouldn't be scared I've had quite a few of them. My work number is withheld when I call others as it goes through the main switchboard first which cancels out the number.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 03/07/2021 14:23

🔮
It was a call from someone who was thinking about calling you for a purpose which may or may not have been positive

girlmom21 · 03/07/2021 14:26

Somebody wanted to speak to you. It might have been a scam or it might have been legitimate. If you wanted to know you should've answered.

StarryStarrySocks · 03/07/2021 14:30

The reason behind it is that someone called you from a private number. Hmm

NerrSnerr · 03/07/2021 14:31

What is the reason behind this?

Because someone called you? Could have been a cold caller, could have been someone who knows you, could have been a wrong number.

PennyDreadful66 · 03/07/2021 14:32

Unless the caller is on MN I don't think we'll ever know the reason why you was called.

Macncheeseballs · 03/07/2021 14:35

Don't have your phone in the bedroom?

How on earth do you think people on here would know?

GLXi · 03/07/2021 14:43

@Macncheeseballs Good suggestion. But I also need it for other notifications etc.

Usually when hospitals ring it comes up as a private number.

Is there anyone who might name you as next of kin if they ended up in hospital?

GLXi · 03/07/2021 14:47

@DeathByWalkies No Smile.

I would say if it was just once , it's a wrong number or similar . If it happens again then I would treat it more suspiciously

Rewis · 03/07/2021 14:50

Could have been a wrong number, friend calling who has a new private number, hospital or the police, scammer etc.

Same reasons and someone ringing during day time

VerticalHorizon · 03/07/2021 14:54

Sometimes it's an automated dialling system trying to find numbers that will answer, and log them for future reference (spamming, dodgy sales etc).

warmfluffytowels · 03/07/2021 14:57

The most likely reason is a scam.

Lots of scammers use an autodialler - so there's nobody on the other end unless you pick up and say something. I had so many problems with this that I eventually had to change my number.

But I was getting calls daily - all from numbers that were 1/2 digits apart so blocking them was pointless.

Don't let it bother you :)

avenueaspirr · 03/07/2021 14:57

It’s ok they told me why so I’m glad you asked.

They’d heard you’d recently been in an accident that wasn’t your fault and wanted to help you get compensation.

haha, yes, fell downstairs trying to answer a call in the middle of the night!
cantgetmyheadroundit · 03/07/2021 15:03

I don't answer calls from people not in my contacts. I've got voicemail, if it's important, they'll leave a message 🤷🏻‍♀️

MotionActivatedDog · 03/07/2021 15:04

What is the reason behind this?

It was me, soz. Just fancied a chat.

MouldyPotato · 03/07/2021 15:04

It wasn't me

Same. I've set my iPhone not to ring if it doesn't recognise the number - it just directs calls to voicemail and I can pick messages up from there.
rantymcrantface66 · 03/07/2021 15:09

Could have been test and trace telling you to isolate. I'm sure they call from a withheld number and can strike at any time

Redglitter · 03/07/2021 15:10

What is the reason behind this

What a bizarre question
