Private number at 3am?

Hello everyone! This might sound strange but this morning at 3am (ikr?), I got a call from a private number. What is the reason behind this?

I literally left the ringer on (cos I'm a lazy sack of fat) and it sort of scared me lol.

I really can't believe this is still bothering you. Enough to start a thread about

Heelsofsteel · 03/07/2021 15:13

Sse called me at 4am for an automated chat to discuss how My customer services experience had been earlier in the day.
It was bad, for the record. Being called at 4am did nothing to change my opinion.

If it was anything important, then they’ll ring back.

A one off call from a private number is almost certainly nothing to worry about - wrong number, scam call or whatever.

@SchrodingersImmigrant

🔮 It was a call from someone who was thinking about calling you for a purpose which may or may not have been positive
Bloody hell, you're good! 😉😉

I get loads of unexplained calls at all times, all from numbers really similar to mine. I called 02 as when I answer I hear someone speaking to someone in the background or they hang up straight away, none of these numbers are the same but they all start with the same 5 numbers as my own phone, 02 told me its a scam, the lady that answered said she had it happen to her, and the caller is trying to see if the phone number is in use. She told me to block them all so I have, just hope no one genuine from 02 with a similar number tries to call me!

Sometimes the police, doctors, hospitals etc will come up as unknown number. I never used to answer then but often my daughters speech therapist etc will call up as unknown. Also the school during lockdown would be unknown when they rang. It could be anyone. Likely no one important at that time of the morning though! If it was important they'd call back or leave a message.

GLXi · 03/07/2021 17:47

Thanks for your messages everyone Smile. For some of you, it might be unusual but it was the first time I encountered something like this.

Much appreciated :)

@warmfluffytowels

The most likely reason is a scam.

Lots of scammers use an autodialler - so there's nobody on the other end unless you pick up and say something. I had so many problems with this that I eventually had to change my number.

But I was getting calls daily - all from numbers that were 1/2 digits apart so blocking them was pointless.

Don't let it bother you :)

I agree this is most likely- a friend of mine is currently getting calls every day from private numbers that are nearly identical after making the mistake of answering a late night call that she thought might be something important.
JackieCollinshasnoauthority · 03/07/2021 19:21

It was you calling from the future.

22Giraffes · 03/07/2021 19:26

I don't understand how you could think anyone on here could possible know who it was Confused

Nicknacky · 03/07/2021 19:30

What was the point of asking on here?

Set your phone to suppress all alerts and notifications between 11 and 7 like a normal person.
