To feel sad when I see my old house?

I sold my house in April 2020 and then saw that it was again on RightMove and now sold - so obviously I had a look.

They’d change quite a bit but I’d seen they’d ripped out the shutters in the bedroom that I’d paid £1000 for and replaced them with floral curtains - that one stung Grin

I know I’m being unreasonable and it’s not mine! It was just sad to relive the memories I’d made there and see the changes. Anyone else felt like this?

  • tallduckandhandsome They ripped out plantation shutters?! I would. They’re ugly

They aren’t ugly. That’s merely your opinion. They were also very practical for that bedroom as it backed on to a shared communal area and two neighbours would sit directly outside drinking and smoking for hours.

Curtains are either open or closed and the blinds could be slightly open for light and privacy and they also blocked the light out fantastically.

They replaced them with what looked like a granny’s floral bedcover Envy

Yes! I used to live in a lovely little bungalow in Cornwall- corner plot, huge peaceful garden, smashing pond that you could sit next to and just read or anything.
Bored one day, I looked it up. Well. I wish I hadn't - it was now (IMO) an ugly two storey house, with decking over most of the garden, the pond ripped out. I nearly cried. (Didn't want to leave but my marriage broke up and had no choice Sad)

They aren’t ugly. That’s merely your opinion.

Just as it’s merely your opinion that they aren’t.

They didn’t think they were practical and much preferred what they chose, obviously.

My most iconic childhood home was bought by a friend's mother when we moved.

I periodically see pictures of the inside on social media. It's odd.

I never said by saying that I meant they looked lovely did I?

Nothing is ugly by fact. Nothing is beautiful by fact.

I moved into my house nearly four years ago. No front garden so everyone could gawp in through the front windows. I ripped down the cheap blinds and removed the net curtains. Plantation shutters installed, best thing I did.

My childhood home was bought by a couple who eyed up my Mum's mature and beautiful garden with wildlife pond. Within the year ripped up and paved over with a square of astroturf in the middle. Their house and their garden, I took my memories with me.
