Please help me identify this actor before I go mad.

English. Grey slightly wavy hair. Unsure of current age, but he has to be 70s. In my mind he was on TV about 20 years ago and had grey hair then. TV actor. Played a part in a TV comedy. Wore a grey suit. Charismatic. He played a politician, I think, or a similar role where he had to report to someone. He wasn't in Yes Minister though, which was my first thought. I can picture him so clearly! But I have no idea from where!

Hugh Fraser? He was in Poirot, so not a comedy, but I'm sure he wore a grey suit a lot.

I think some people are forgetting when 20 years ago was! Lots of these tv things you're mentioning are 30 or 40 years ago!

20 years ago, you're looking at things like State of Play (Philip Glenister, Bill Nighy, David Morrissey?) Or The Thick of It (Peter Capaldi, Chris Langham, Roger Allam?)

What's his voice like op? What sort of accent?

He played the Duke in an episode of Dinner Ladies who asked Brenda for a bunk-up in the broom cupboard but settled for a bacon sandwich.

I’m thinking Roger Allam too. (He’s an exceptionally good actor; has the most amazing stage repertoire and was A* in The Thick of It….)
